June 6. Warm and humid through the night last night. Cool a bit and cloudy just about all day, but still somewhat humid. Sun peeked through a couple times; and this afternoon, there were a few drops of rain. It is raining gently this evening so the humidity should go down tonight.
There was a good group here for lotu this morning, and Daddy continued talking about various ministries that God’s people can do. He talked about the importance of teaching and training the young people and shared the story of David’s faith in God when he fought Goliath. It is good for these young people to see that God’s Word and salvation is not just for the older people. I have been trying to stress that in school as well.
It is good to see Tomas getting a burden for the salvation of his own people. He is realizing more and more the lost condition of most of the church goers. Even men who are leaders in the other church are saying, “We go to church. We know God. And we don’t want to hear the name of God mentioned in any village meetings or anywhere outside the church.” How sad!
English class is going a bit more slowly with two new students, but hopefully speed will pick up again as they get the idea of what is going on. Bethuel is doing pretty well in all the classes now and quickly beginning to fit into things. He is still quite slow, however.
Didn’t get to go outside and work this afternoon as there was no sunshine, and there was some light rain. After getting lesson materials together for tomorrow, I made some peanut butter cookies for Daddy before getting supper.
Daddy and the men are having Bible school this evening.
There was no water early this morning and again this afternoon. We understand that Anevina went up and fixed something at the source as they had none down in the village too. So water is running again this evening. Praise the Lord for water.
“Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” 2 Timothy 3:12
June 7. Cool and cloudy all day today with rain off and on. Daddy has kept the wood stove going since early this morning.
Not much incidental today. Yesterday evening, after Bible school, we discussed “e” and “eh” with the men and determined that “eh” does not need to be a letter in the Owena alphabet. I have been thinking about it for some time because we could not find any minimal pairs with those two vowels, and it seemed like the words we had with “eh” were being pronounced with the same vowel sound as those with “e.” So that cuts the Owena alphabet down to only 19 letters and will also help make spelling a bit easier for the students. Or you could say the alphabet has 25 letters, if you count each vowel twice — once without a tone mark and once with.
Last night during the middle of the night, some boys left to walk to Okapa and carry freezer meat back that Kelly has bought for a big election party. He tried to book a plane to send it in, but there was none available. People have been busy all day gathering food for the big mumu. People of Wantakia and Nombia are supposed to be here as well, we understand. So there will be lots of strangers around. A good opportunity for the men to do some preaching and witnessing.
Daddy called NTM today to check on a booking, but so far they don’t have anything coming this way for a while so he may have to go out with MAF.
Eric was here this evening and said that Iso is also going to be coming home and would he be able to come to school here too. Well, he is certainly welcome to come, but will he be willing to go down from sixth grade to third grade?
Reson came by today with a new baby that her brother’s wife gave birth to last night. The baby didn’t have any nappies or clothes of any kind so she wanted to get some right away.
This evening, I made myself some whole wheat crackers so I will have something to eat that is not sweet.
“7I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7,8
