October 10 & 11. By the time I got everything else done that I needed to do last night, I was too tired to think straight to write in my journal. So I’ll put yesterday and today together, although I am not too sure I can remember yesterday’s events. No way to add more memory to this ancient computer in my head, and I think it is already pretty full.
Yesterday, the 10th, was the day for Daddy to come home from town. The Lord was good and gave a good clear morning. Daddy wasn’t scheduled to come in until around noon anyway so things should have been fine by then. One never knows though. Sometimes the weather becomes cloudy and rainy around noon.
After I got up and got the fire started, I fixed my breakfast, ate and had quiet time. Then I got the refreshments together for Sunny’s birthday party and made a jug of lemonade. By then it was almost lotu time. I went and unlocked the front door so people could come in. Matthew was already out there waiting. It was about five to seven. He came and put his books on the bench and then went out to wait for other people to come. I got the bed made and some other things done while I was waiting for people to come in.
The meeting started about 7:20. Tomas was supposed to be in charge, but he was sick. Matthew took his place. We sang a few songs, and then Matthew gave a short message based on James 2:1. It was a good message about not lifting up some people and putting down others. Then there were prayer requests, and a short time of prayer.
Since the meeting finished before 8:30, I thought I would go ahead and start school early so we could try to get finished before Daddy came. I think it was close to 8:45 before we got started.
We started English class and were in the middle of a new phonics lesson when we heard the roar of the plane engine. They had changed Daddy’s to the first flight — not unusual for the flight program to change. By this time, fog had risen up out of the valley and was blocking the approach. However, it was really fast moving fog; and by the time the plane had circled a couple times, it was almost completely gone. I don’t remember seeing fog move so fast before.
I let the class go and help carry cargo. After the people had brought everything down and I had welcomed Daddy home, class was resumed.
We finished English class, had recess, and then a short math class. The students had fun doing some observations of different properties of liquids for science class. Then we had a birthday party for Sunny.
Daddy and I had sandwiches for lunch. After nap, there was lots of work to do. I was thankful that Daddy had put away a lot of the food while I was in school. I didn’t have any grades to record today so I was thankful for that too. I did have to get things ready for Thursday’s classes. I put away things that Daddy didn’t know what to do with. I bagged up each students’ gifts that Daddy had gotten for them to give their parents at the school closing and figured out how much each one owes.
For supper, I fixed chicken and gravy to go over the rice I had cooked yesterday, and there were leftover greens as well. After supper, I did dishes, cleaned and reorganized some shelves in the tall cupboard and the dishes cupboard above the sink. Will have to do the rest another time. Then I had a bath and a snack and finished gathering things that I need for science experiments the next day. By that time it was late, but I wanted to send an e-mail off to Christy and Connie so did that. Then I read the e-mails that came in while Daddy was in town. When I finished that, it was after 9:00, and my brain was no longer functioning so the journal got left for this evening. Now it is Thursday, the 11th, and already 8:30 p.m. I am waiting for bath water to heat so I can have a bath again. It has been another very warm, sweaty day.
I got up about 5:45 this morning and got the laundry sorted out. Then Daddy went and turned on the generator so I could start washing the clothes. The Lord gave us a beautiful morning. There has been no rain today.
While the clothes were washing, I made cooked rice cereal, then ate breakfast and read Bible. There was lots of wash since it had been a week since last wash day. The clothes filled up all the lines today, and I didn’t get back in the house until 8:00. I was thankful for at least 10 minutes to sit and relax in the recliner and pray before going off to school.
It is now 9:30. Enjoyed a nice refreshing bath. Then figured out what to do for math tomorrow and photo copied a couple worksheets. Still have to get some things together for science.
Let’s see, where was I before I went to bath. We finished our Bible lesson this morning and didn’t really have time to do a project afterward. So I gave each one a little paper with the cost of their items and how much they owe. Then I let them look through things. Then they had a short break, and we went to English class. We did some writing, had a spelling quiz, and studied four new consonant blends. After recess, we reviewed Roman numerals, fractions, and division facts. Then they did a worksheet with division problems and review of finding sum and difference. In science class, we read about and did some hands-on observations about gases and their properties.
Finished school a little after noon and had sandwiches for lunch. Daddy had already brought the clothes in which was a blessing. At nap time, I slept a lot longer than I had intended so didn’t get everything ready for school until this evening. And I still have a little bit to do. This afternoon, I graded papers and recorded grades. Then husked uxai and cut it up with some broccoli to cook for supper. I had it all cut up when there was a knock on the door. Apekio had brought greens. When I went back to the kitchen, I had forgotten that I hadn’t put water in the pan with the veggies, and I turned on the burner to start them cooking. Then I started getting things ready for making cookies. When Daddy came out after shaving and washing, he said he smelled something burning. Oh, no! No water in the pan! I hurriedly took it off the burner, let it cool down a bit, then added water and put it back on. I was thankful it hadn’t burned too badly, and it actually tasted pretty good.
I made chocolate chip cookies for Daddy. Then I put the leftover rice and chicken gravy on to warm for supper along with our “smoked” veggies.
Kitchen cleanup took a while this evening. Then I was finally able to start getting things together for school tomorrow. So I guess that about ends the day as it will be bedtime in a very short while. I will be happy to go to bed.
The Lord answered some specific prayers this past week. I had prayed that the weather would not be too cold so I would not have to run back and forth and try to keep the fire going while I was teaching school. The Lord gave a very warm week. I also prayed that there wouldn’t be any rats while Daddy was gone, and there weren’t. I am very thankful. I also prayed that more packages would come before Daddy came back to Owena, and they did. How good God is! I thank Him for caring for His children even in the little things.
