April 13. It is 7:40 p.m. The house is quiet. Daddy left today in about the middle of the afternoon. The Lord gave us a very warm day with a little bit of sunshine, mixed with clouds, and some rain this afternoon. It was raining when Daddy left, but the mountain tops were still clear for the plane to get in. Praise the Lord for answered prayer.
Back to school today. Everyone seemed refreshed and in good spirits after the holiday. They all said they worked during the holiday, but they said it was a good holiday.
By the time school was out, and I had my lunch, and Daddy left for town, it was going on 3:00. So I had a late nap. After that, I cut up part of a pumpkin and got it ready to cook for supper. Then I got lessons ready for tomorrow. Then I graded Esau’s math lesson — he had stayed and finished it after school. Before I was done, Dallas came by with his math lesson and spelling lesson so I graded those two things. Hadn’t realized how much time had gone by, but when I looked at the clock it was already 5:45. I started the pumpkin cooking and put the rest of the leftover mashed potatoes and creamed tuna on to warm. Ate the potatoes and tuna while the pumpkin was still cooking. Then I had some pumpkin for dessert. :-) Right after supper, I had my bath while the house was still fairly warm.
“I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.” John 5:30
April 14. It was raining fairly hard when I went to bed last night. Don’t know when the rained stopped. It was quite foggy when I got up this morning, but fairly warm for morning — about 60º. As the day went on, the fog got thicker, and the day stayed cool and damp. The highest temperature I saw this morning was about 68º. Then shortly after noon, the skies started getting darker, and soon there was rain. When I looked at the thermometer after school, the temperature had dropped back down to 60º. I hadn’t had a chance to start the fire earlier so that was the first thing I did after school was out.
While I was fixing my breakfast this morning, I waited for Daddy to call, but he never called, or so I thought. After waiting a while, I finally called him. He said he had tried to called about 8 times, but couldn’t get through. Don’t know why. I had three or four bars on my phone.
The students had a lot of work to do in their classes today. It was well into recess time before the first ones finished their reading workbook so we didn’t start math class until about 10:35. That pushed our English class and history class ahead a little too. They had writing to do in all those classes today.
It was about half way through English class that the rain started. It rained quite hard, and rain fell on the English book that Phinehas was using. In history class rain fell on Steve’s history lesson.
I was able to get quite a bit of the grading done in class, and thought I would be able to finish it this afternoon with no problem. However, there were numerous interruptions as people came to the door for various reasons. So I didn’t finish the grading until this evening.
I didn’t get to nap until after 2:30 because Mike was still here finishing up his work. But he did have some good news to tell me before he left. Taqita had her baby last night around midnight, he said — a girl. Praise the Lord for this new little gift for them.
“27Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. 28Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” John 6:27-29
April 15. 7:30 p.m. All is quiet, except for the faint roar of the generator from down in the village.
The weather was quite different this morning than it was yesterday. When I looked outside at 5:00, there were stars visible in the early morning sky. It was cold — about 54º outside, but the sun was shining, and I figured the house would soon warm up. There wasn’t time to make a fire anyway before lotu. Later this afternoon, the skies turned dark, the temperature dropped, and we had a few sprinkles of rain.
Daddy was able to get a call through this morning although we lost connection a couple times. I guess the phone service still isn’t working quite right.
Lotu started around 7:20. Amos covered the first five verses of chapter 16, emphasizing the need to encourage and teach faithful young men like Timothy so that they can serve the Lord.
It was a blessing to have only three classes today. I had to make some tortillas for my lunch. Was able to get the dough made up while the students were doing some independent study. At lunch time, I rolled out a few balls of dough and started cooking them so that I would have two for my lunch. When two were done, I started eating, and a few more were on cooking while I was eating.
After nap, I finished up today’s grading and got things written on the chalkboard for tomorrow. Again a lot of people came to the door so it was already 5:00 before I was done in the schoolroom. I still had to roll out and cook the rest of the tortillas so did that next. Also put my leftover pizza on to warm for my dinner and cut a piece of popo to go with it. Enjoyed the popo in place of a veggie this evening. Can’t remember who brought the popo, but I was thankful for the fresh fruit. We hadn’t had any for some time.
After supper, I practiced keyboard so I will be ready for teaching a new song on Friday. The kids want to learn “Yield Not to Temptation.” After that, I took my bath while the house is still somewhat warm.
