August 6. Some rain during the night. Not much sun this morning. A little bit this afternoon, but mostly clouds today, and there was a faint rainbow.
We heard that the teacher of the community school was going to send the students to cut grass on the airstrip today, but nobody showed up. Whenever they come, our school kids will help also. We understand that Soken is still very sick, and they are talking about sending him out to the hospital.
I was happy to see Esau back to school today. I didn’t realize we would finish our Bible lesson so quickly and have lots of leftover time at the end of class. So I got out all the boxes that we will use for making props for the drama and let the students flatten the boxes. Then they had an early break, and we started the next class early. So each class started early, and we actually finished school early today.
Had leftover fish patties and some greens for dinner. Then had an early nap. After nap, I went out for a stretch in the fresh air and also made another step on the north side of the yard. I think I should make one more sometime.
After I came back in, I cut up the other half of the popo. Then graded the students’ social studies’ lessons and recorded today’s grades. Had snack and then got things ready for tomorrow.
Before getting supper, I made some revisions on the drama for the school closing so it won’t be so long.
“7Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.” Romans 8:7,8
August 7. It is almost 9:30 p.m. already. It has been a loooong day. The Lord gave us a little sunshine throughout the day, but mostly clouds, a pretty good rain at nap time, and a little rain late this afternoon and this evening.
I was awake for about an hour during the night, having been awakened by a rat-cket. Went out rat hunting, and figured he was in the storage closet somewhere, but couldn’t quite figure out where. Daddy was sleeping soundly - never heard me get up or talk to him. I put out the rat poison and glue trap.
Finally went back to sleep after scaring the rat off a couple times. It was later in the dark hours of the morning before Daddy finally woke up. I was asleep then. He discovered that the rat was carrying away some of the plastic bags we keep in a small canvas bag. We use them for leftovers or biscuits, crackers, etc. It was taking them to the back corner of the storage room shelves. Probably preparing to build a nest there. The rat didn’t get into the trap, but did eat the poison.
Matthew was in charge of lotu this morning and preached on “the free gift” using Romans 5:15-18 as his text.
We started school a little after 8:30 which was nice because it was worksheet day in phonics class, and it takes them a while to get the worksheet done. Then we did a lesson in their phonics workbook. English lesson today was a review lesson with lots of exercises so we still didn’t finish school before 12:30.
Had leftover fish patties and greens for dinner. After nap, the sun was shining a bit, so I went outside for a stretch while I could. It wasn’t long before the sun was gone, and the gray clouds had built up again. After I came inside, I was going to start printing, but discovered that the computer needed to be charged up. So worked on some Bible lessons while the computer was charging. Then I switched plugs and plugged in the printer so I could do some printing. Printed a revised copy of the drama, plus Bible lessons in John and Daniel for the students. After that, I graded their English lessons for today and recorded today’s grades.
By then it was nearly supper time, but we were waiting for bread. Daddy had sent Sosthenes down to get a loaf of bread, but he hadn’t come back with it yet. He was probably watching the goings on down there first. In the mean time, I figured I’d better get some things written on the chalkboard for tomorrow before it got too dark out there in the classroom. That done, it was after 5:00, and I was getting pretty hungry. So we decided I would make some chocolate pudding instead of waiting for the bread for sandwiches. In the mean time, Sosthenes came for another note to take to Janeth for the bread. I was already cooking the pudding. He took off to get the bread, and we had already finished eating our pudding before he got back here with the bread. But at least the bread is already here for Daddy’s lunch tomorrow.
While dishwater was heating, I got the new Bible and music lessons put into the students’ folders. Then I did the dishes, and afterward made peanut butter cookies for Daddy. While cookies were baking, I had my soda drink and then started coloring cutouts to be glued on the maps of South America and North America in the social studies workbook. I wanted to do a copy so the students will know how to do it tomorrow. Finished the coloring while my bath water was heating.
After bath, I got the cookies put away and got a snack. Cut out all the pieces for South America and got them glued into place. Will have to do North America in the morning. It shouldn’t take as long as there aren’t as many pieces, and they aren’t as large.
“16The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. 18For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” Romans 8:16-18
