January 25. Another mostly cloudy day, and cool too. Daddy let the fire go out late morning, but started it up again after dinner. We saw a few bursts of sunshine late this afternoon, but that did not last long. Had a little bit of rain this evening.
Everyone was about ten minutes late this morning for school, but most of them have been going down to the river after school to be with their parents. It takes them a while to get back up here in the morning, and this morning was quite dark and foggy so they probably did not start out as early. We did a short music lesson in Bible class, and then I played a couple songs for them to sing. They love to sing “Taim Yumi Kamap Long Heven,” (When We All Get to Heaven) and they sing it with all their might. I thought my eardrums would burst with them all standing around behind me singing while I was playing. I’m glad they like to sing though. We also sang “Jisas I Gutpela.” (Jesus is Good)
I couldn’t sing today; could barely even talk. My throat is very, very sore, and my ears have been hurting too. I tried big doses of all the supplements we have, but I was only getting worse. So I finally started on amoxicillin last night. By the end of school today, I could hardly talk at all. I am thankful for the weekend ahead to get a little extra rest and to rest my voice as well.
Sorry to say, the water tap still leaked when Daddy turned the water back on today. So once again he had to do it all over. And once again the water is off for another 24 hours. Daddy was still working on the pipes when I went for my nap. I didn’t sleep as long as I would have liked because I woke up with a coughing spell and couldn’t get that settled down. So I got up and got to work finishing up the correcting of today’s papers.
After that, it was time to start supper - potatoes to wash and peel and cut up for mashed potatoes; carrots to peel, wash, and cut up. Onions and chicken to cut up and cook together in the pressure cooker. And then some butter biscuits to make for myself to put the chicken gravy on when everything was done and we were ready to eat.
There were lots of dishes this evening. Now it is time to go get a bath.
“9And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations. 10He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. 11If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? 12And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's, who shall give you that which is your own?” Luke 16:9-12
January 26. It has been a hot and sweaty day. There was nobody around for lotu this morning. Most everyone is/was still down at the river. So I did the laundry early. I was glad to get it hung out before the sun got too hot. There were blue patches when I hung the clothes out, but it was mostly overcast. Soon after I came inside the sun came out, and it looked like it would be a nice day. We put the peanuts out in the sun to dry, and then the second layer of fog came up and overshadowed everything. Daddy was afraid it might rain, but by mid-morning, the Lord had taken the clouds away and given us a sunshiny day. When I got up from nap this afternoon, there was lots and lots of blue sky. But now there are lots of clouds and the rain is falling.
After doing laundry, I sat down for a while and worked on announcements for tomorrow and notes for tomorrow’s business meeting. Still have to finish the notes. Then I worked on math lessons for this coming week until it was time to talk to Christy and Connie. That was the best part of the day. Then I sorted and washed greens before finishing the math lesson plans.
Cooked the greens; warmed up mashed taters (for Daddy), butter biscuits (for me), and chicken gravy to go on top of the taters and biscuits. After we had eaten, we went out and brought the clothes in, hung up our shirts, blouses, and dresses, and made the bed. I had forgotten all about making the bed after I took sheets off to be washed this morning.
We had a nice long nap. Then this afternoon, I went out and picked leaves (so I can show the school students how to do their science project), washed my hair, and got English and science plans done for the coming week.
Daddy turned the water back on around 3:15. It still has a small leak so we will just put something under it for now to catch the drips. I am thankful to have the running water again.
About 4:15, I went to the kitchen and started baking. Made some cinnamon sugar cookie bars for Daddy and some banana raisin rice muffins for myself (to take the place of pancakes for breakfast in the morning since there isn’t any fruit to make fruit syrup with for pancakes).
Fixed pizza sandwiches for our supper. Did the dishes and cleaned up the kitchen. Wiped off the bathtub and sprayed the inside with disinfectant. Daddy wiped it out for me. Now it is time to sit down and relax before bath.
“And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.” Luke 16:15
