April 25. Cloudy most of the day, but very humid, which made it quite warm this afternoon. No lotu this morning since we just finished the special meetings yesterday, so we started classes at regular time. Had a little time before class to work on getting the GIBC history up to date. Need to get that finished and printed by Sunday. English class was an hour and a half today so classes went until a little after 12:00. Had leftover spaghetti and uxai for dinner
This afternoon, I washed my hair, cleaned out the kitchen sink, sorted and washed the greens to be cooked later, and got materials ready for school tomorrow. Did some printing and photo-copying this evening before soul-winning class. Just a small group here this evening.
“6And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost: 7So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia. 8For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing. 9For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God; 10And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.” 1 Thessalonians 1:6-10
April 26. I didn’t sleep good the first part of the night so I was sound asleep when Daddy woke me up this morning. He startled me when he took hold of my hand and told me it was time to get up. Got the laundry all sorted out last night so was all ready to have the generator started as soon as I got dressed. It was a lovely morning for hanging out clothes, and I thank the Lord for the joy of being out working in the sunshine.
Was glad to have some time for prayer before school started. It was a busy school morning with four classes, and we didn’t finish until after 12:30.
Jonaten stayed after English class and chopped firewood. Jessica and her husband brought more firewood today, some already chopped and some not.
I am thankful that Daddy got the clothes in for me while I was still in class. It was late when we had nap, and after 3:00 when we got up. The Lord sent us some bits of rain this afternoon and bigger bits this evening.
What was left of the afternoon was spent partly on getting materials ready for school tomorrow and partly on fixing a meal for supper. I figured I had better fix up the yam since it was starting to grow mold again on the cut end. Cut the bad part off and put the rest of it in the pressure cooker with the greens. Daddy cut up part of the pumpkin for me, and I cooked that too.
After dishes, there was printing to do, and now time to relax a little.
“1For yourselves, brethren, know our entrance in unto you, that it was not in vain: 2But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention. 3For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile: 4But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts. 5For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God is witness: 6Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others….” 1 Thessalonians 2:1-6
April 27. Slept in until about 6:15 this morning. Didn’t need to hurry and get up to do anything, and I had been kinda tired the past couple days so was thankful for a few minutes extra sleep. Was hoping to get a good nap this afternoon; but first, the phone rang. Daddy had to get up and answer it. It was Richard letting him know that the plane would be coming in about an hour and could we have a load of coffee ready. So he had to go out and find people to get coffee ready. The plane had come in earlier in the day and brought Janeth and Kathryn back from town. They said the hospital staff couldn’t find anything wrong with Misek so wondered if he were just worried about his family. The plane took out a load of Nuanda’s coffee when Janeth came in. After Daddy went out, I started to go back to sleep, but then a south wind came up and was blowing the bedroom curtain up into the air. I didn’t want the cold wind blowing on me as my throat was already starting to get sore again. So got up to shut the window, and that was the end of nap time.
The Lord gave us a nice day today, but the winds were very strong and cool.
After I got up this morning and was starting to fix my breakfast, I noticed a red dot on the floor under the water filter spout. I asked Daddy what it was — it looked like blood. He got his flashlight and looked closely, but wasn’t sure. Where would a spot of blood come from? Later, I went to the other end of the cupboard and noticed something on the counter top there. More blood. I cleaned it up with a paper towel. Had somebody injured a rat, and had it come in here to get away? When I went to throw away banana skins in the garbage bucket, I saw lots of spots on the floor between the stove and the wall. Daddy brought his flashlight and looked at it, and there was lots of blood there. Then he looked around the house and found blood in several other places also. After English class, I was telling the students and the papas about it. They said that sometimes the container rats fight and then eat each other. Neither Daddy nor I heard any noise last night, but there must have been a couple rats chasing each other around and biting at each other. We certainly hope we don’t start smelling another dead rat in a couple days. We hope the battle ended outside somewhere. I guess tomorrow I’ll be scrubbing floors.
In school today, we finished the Bible lesson about God’s calling of Moses. Monday we will review and do a color by number picture. Then Tuesday we will have the test. In English class, we had a spelling contest using the letter tiles. Sosthenes and Graham tied for first place. Then we started learning the letter “w.” I went ahead and had four classes today since we didn’t get to have Owena class on Tuesday seeing that there was no school that day. So it was going on 1:00 before we finished school today. We didn’t really finish the worksheet in Owena class, but I am seeing that the boys need lots of practice in knowing how to use their Owena Scriptures and find answers. They need lots of practice in writing their language too. They had to find short answers to short questions today. I gave them the verses to find the answers in, but it takes a lot of thinking for them to come up with the answer. I didn’t make them do the paper themselves, but worked with them to try to help them understand how to do the work.
After nap today, I decided to try to catch up on e-mails. Worked on that until supper time, besides answering the door at least half a dozen times.
“10Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe: 11As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children, 12That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.” I Thessalonians 2:1-12
