January 13. How gracious of the Lord to give us several hours of sunshine today! The temperature went up into the 70’s and we were even able to take off our jackets and sweaters and open some windows. Daddy went out for a short walk this morning, but I didn’t go out because the winds were still pretty strong and cool in the morning. I did go out this evening after supper though and burn the trash. It has been piling up for a couple weeks waiting to be burned, but it has been too windy. There was no wind this evening, and it felt good to get out.
Let’s see, what did I do today? I think the first thing I did after breakfast and quiet time was finish finding the music for all the songs in the new song book. Then I collated and punched the review lessons for the first week of math. So those are ready to go into their notebooks. Then I proofread Unit 1 of the history/geography lessons and have just a few corrections to make before I print out the students’ copies this evening. Then I started cleaning up and cleaning out the students’ pencil cases and replacing those that weren’t in good shape. Finished that job this afternoon after nap. After that I sorted through some of the old crayons and made little packets of the eight basic colors for the students to use at home whenever they have a coloring assignment. There certainly are a lot of things to do to get ready for the beginning of school.
Praise the Lord that there is phone connection again this evening too. The Lord answered a number of prayers today. Thank you, Lord.
Another special blessing today was fresh popo, pumpkin, and greens that were brought to our door. I fixed a pot of rice and soup beans for supper, and Daddy cut up one of the pumpkins for me to prepare and cook. I ate a large helping of pumpkin before having some rice. It tasted SOOOO good after not having veggies for a week.
January 14. Praise the Lord for another day of warmth and sunshine. It is raining this evening. The youth are here for their meeting, and Amos is teaching.
Amos covered the first three verses of Acts 13 this morning and did a good job. After lotu, Sunny came in and fixed greens for me. Then I had her sweep and mop the floor. When we went to get water for mopping, however, there was no water. The water was not working all day until late afternoon. The council and Tomas went and worked on it. They have a little more work to do in the morning, as it got too dark this afternoon.
We were thankful that Daddy keeps all our buckets filled with water so we weren’t completely without water to use today. Sunny was able to get the floor washed, and then she and I scrubbed up all the lap desks, and she washed the mud off the front doors.
While she was working at some of her jobs, I cut up a popo that somebody brought us yesterday and then collated and punched the history/geography lessons I had printed out last night. They are ready now to go into the students’ notebooks. Also proofread the orientation notes and later made a few corrections in the computer so now I can print out notes for the students. I think that’s the last thing I need to print for school before Monday.
Praise the Lord that MAF came in today with mail, including a package from Christy and Connie and some fresh veggies and bread that Melanie had gotten for us.
This afternoon, I looked through a few more of the library books to see whether we wanted to keep or get rid of them. Then I got this month’s ministry update written. Made some coconut bars since Daddy’s cookies were all gone, and then fixed egg salad for supper.
After supper and cleaning up the kitchen, I started writing an e-mail to Christy and Connie. Before I got very far, there was a knock at the door; and much to my surprise, there was Christy Nuanda. She gave me a big hug and cried a little bit, and we sat down and talked a while. She seemed happy to come visit us.
