The Lord gave us sunshine this morning and most of the afternoon, but the temperature never did get that high. This afternoon, however, when the clouds came up, the air was very close, and it was hard to breathe. We thought we were in for a big storm, but we didn’t even get any rain. We were thankful when the air started cooling down.
After breakfast and quiet time this morning, I got the books covered and the cupboard locked. Finished the rest of this week’s lesson plans. Made the bed. Folded yesterday’s laundry. Started going through some extra math workbooks to see what was in them that would be useable and what wouldn’t. Lotu started around 10:20. Amos led the singing. There were not many people here this morning, and those that were here had a hard time staying awake after being up crying all night. Matthew was really tired too and didn’t know if he would preach the whole message or not. But once he got started, he was okay. He finished the rest of II Corinthians chapter 1, starting with verse 12, and did a good job. We did not have a second meeting. The people wanted to get some sleep and also get some food from their gardens to help the grieving family. They don’t really have much food right now, but are sharing some of what they do have. We gave them a few things to take as well.
After lotu, Daddy and I had our lunch and nap. Then I printed out Sunny’s lessons and some other math worksheets and also did some photocopying. Finished going through the math workbook I had started going through this morning. Then got everything ready for school tomorrow. About 4:30, I had my crypto drink, peeled and cut up carrots and put them on to cook, and got fish patties made for our supper.
“17Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. 18If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.” Romans 12:17,18
August 26. Warmer this morning and very humid this afternoon. It has been trying to rain this evening. The depravity of man is so great. I had just read in Ecclesiastes this morning, chapter 8 verse 8 “There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.” And yet they believe that a man can have power over the spirit and power over the day of death. And through wickedness they try find peace in their sorrow and revenge for those they’ve been led to believe have stolen the spirit of a loved one.
Before and after eating breakfast and having quiet time, I spent time finishing up what still needed to be done in the guest room before our guests come tomorrow. Didn’t finish getting the bed made until after school. School was out very early today. Bethuel and Esau were not here at all, and those who were here were just not with it. Most of them had not gotten much sleep last night. We got through Bible class and phonics class okay, but I could see they were having a hard time concentrating on the drill time in math class, and they were getting a bit silly too. So I closed school for the day, had them flatten some more boxes and do some cleaning - the benches and lap desks needed a good scrubbing, and then sent them home. I asked Bonita to stay and wash all the rags we had used for cleaning the past few days. I didn’t realize there were so many - enough to fill three lines. Then she swept the back porch.
In the mean time, I finished making the guest bed and washed the wall above the guest bathroom sink as it had never been washed after we moved in. Lots of building supplies had been stored in that little bathroom so it was hard to do much in there. Hung up a mirror and a hook for a hand towel, put out some paper cups and a bottle of water they can use for drinking or brushing teeth. Then I warmed up our dinner and we ate. When we finished dinner, Bonita was done working, and then we had our nap.
First thing after nap, I washed my hair. Then started going through another math workbook and tearing out useable pages, sewed up a hole in the seam of one of Daddy’s trousers, and finished sewing a pocket on a jumper for myself. Got a couple things ready for school tomorrow - didn’t have to do much as we didn’t finish today’s lessons. Only had one grade to record for today. Later I got the rags in, did some exercises, folded and put away the rags, got supper.
While I was doing dishes this evening, I put soup beans on to cook so we can have a little soup with our lunch tomorrow. The Venters should arrive early in the morning if the weather is good. Used the dirty dish water to clean the inside of the tall cupboard doors - they had gotten some mildew on them. Also re-greased the wood stove - it hadn’t been done for a long time and was getting pretty rusty again. Did some other odd jobs in the kitchen to be ready for tomorrow. Daddy helped with a lot of cleaning and getting ready too - filled the salt and pepper shakers, filled the honey “bear,” dumped the non-burnable trash and burned the paper trash, and a number of other jobs.
Now I am having a little sit down break before getting my soda drink and bath.
“19Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. 20Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. 21Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:19-21
