August 21. Ellen’s birthday. Happy birthday to my dear sister.
Another day pretty much like yesterday. Daddy did let the fire go out this afternoon when the sun was shining for a while, and I was thankful to have a few minutes to get outside while the sun was shining. It wasn’t long before the sun was gone, and we had a short rain shower. It doesn’t feel as cold tonight as it was last night.
David called this morning and said that Philip was recovering from his snake bite. Praise the Lord for that, and we pray most of all for him to be saved.
We finished our Bible lesson in class this morning and even had time to do most of the music lesson. Plan to finish the music lesson tomorrow and then sing.
Today the students took their final exam in social studies. Three of the girls got 100% - Thania, Bonita, and Sunny.
Had a good long nap this afternoon. After giving the chalkboard a second cleaning, and going outside for a stretch, I prepared some math games for the students’ drill time tomorrow. Then I had to make tortillas for my supper (have been making those instead of biscuits) and oatmeal cookies. By the time we sat down to eat, my back was in a lot of pain again from being on my feet too long. After supper, I had to clean up the kitchen and then put the cookies on the trays to be baked. The last batch is in the oven now. Practiced keyboard for a while so I’ll be ready for our singing time in class tomorrow.
Soon I’ll need to do dishes and get a bath.
“But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.” Hebrews 2:9
August 22. A long, tiring day. Praise the Lord for a bit more sunshine and warmth today.
NTM came in with the helicopter a little before 9:00 this morning, hoping to get the airplane wings flown back to Goroka. They thought it wouldn’t take long, and they would be on their way back to town, then would come back for the fuselage on Monday. It was a disappointment, however, that their plan for slinging the wings did not work. The wings twisted and turned too much in the wind. They tried three different plans, and the last one seemed closest to success, but not quite. They used up a lot of fuel with those three attempts. The plane had to bring in more fuel for the third try. Finally a little after 4:00, both helicopter and plane left to go back and try to determine a workable plan.
Their first attempt was during our math class. I told the students they could go outside and look but could not go off anywhere. About half of them disobeyed and were not around when I called them back in so when they finally came back, I told them that next time they will not get to go out. They disappointed me in Oral English class too. About half of them did not study and prepare for the second part of today’s lesson. Consequently, I did not wait on them to try to think of an answer and let them waste my time. I just went on to the next person. Those who were prepared got good grades for today, and those who weren’t got poor grades.
It took a long time this afternoon to grade their math lessons - review lesson for chapter 7. The review lessons are always quite a bit longer than the daily lessons. And they have had a hard time with this chapter on fractions so we spent three days on the review lesson. On Monday, they will have a test on the chapter.
Later in the afternoon, I sorted and washed a small bunch of greens and got them ready to cook. Put supper on to warm, and sorted the laundry while supper was warming. Right after supper, Daddy turned on the generator and we did laundry. Then Daddy had to go off to Bible school, and I hung up the shirts and blouses and a few other things in the guest room and also made the bed since I had taken the sheets off to wash them. I waited until Bible school was over to do dishes so Daddy could help me because I am still having a lot of back pain, especially if I am on my feet a long time.
In the mean time, I got phonics lesson plans done for next week. Then I got the test made up for Monday’s Bible/music class. Now it is already 9:30.
“18And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? 19So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.” Hebrews 3:18,19
