September 6. It took me a long time to get to sleep last night. I couldn’t keep from coughing. I tried the cough syrup, but that didn’t help this time. Then I tried Vicks on the nose, but that didn’t help either. Finally I took White Willow Bark and Echinacea and put Vicks on my neck. After that, I was able to settle down.
When we woke up this morning, the whole world had disappeared in the fog. The fog hung around for a long time. It was another very cool day. Just a couple hours of sunshine this afternoon before the clouds came back.
About 7:00 this morning, it dawned on me that today was Bonita’s birthday. I had it marked in my lesson plans to get things ready yesterday; but since we didn’t have school yesterday, I hadn’t looked at the lesson plans. Now what shall I do? Wait until Monday to have her party? No, that didn’t seem like the right thing to do. So I quickly finished my breakfast, threw together ingredients for cupcakes and popped them into the oven, got out a party bag and some little gifts for Bonita, got together the party things - drinking cups, napkins, table cover, party tray, Rokroks, lolly pops, drink mix, nut cups, etc. Then I realized I didn’t have enough peanuts roasted so dumped some peanuts into a baking pan and put those in the wood stove oven to roast. Made up the fruit drink. Got icing sugar into a bowl, ready to add the wet ingredients later. Filled the peanut cups. Then off to school. I think that must be the fastest I’ve ever gotten things ready for a birthday party. The cupcakes weren’t quite done by the time I left for school so I set the timer for five more minutes and asked Daddy to take them out for me when the timer went off. Then while the students were reviewing their Bible verses, I came and took the cupcakes out of the pan.
At recess time, I frosted the cupcakes and put them on the party tray. Stuck a lolly pop in the top of each one and put three Rokroks beside each.
We finished classes around 11:45. I let them get things set out for the party, while I finished correcting their math books. Then we sang “Happy Birthday,” Esau prayed, and they had their party. I went and warmed up our dinner, and we ate too. Then I gave Bonita her gift bag, took her picture, and they went home.
Shortly afterward, we had our nap. I was tired and slept a bit extra today. Afterward, I graded the English lessons and math worksheets and recorded today’s grades. Then I tried to get some work done in the computer, but had lots of interruptions. I did manage to finish writing the music lesson I had started earlier this week so was thankful to have gotten that much done.
It took a while to get dishes done this evening - there were quite a few storage containers, plus the baking dishes and all the cups from the party. When dishes were done, I practiced keyboard before people came for Bible school. Then I put water on to heat for bath so I could get washed before the evening got too chilly.
“27But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29That no flesh should glory in his presence.” I Corinthians 1:27-29
September 7. Praise the Lord for nice sunshine today for the laundry to dry. It felt good to be out in the sunshine hanging the clothes. It wasn’t long after that, though, before the cold winds came up. I did not go out anymore the rest of the day as my throat is still sore. Just can’t seem to get rid of the sore throat and earaches.
Some of the young people left for Aivonti while it was still night so they can sell more coffee and be back by tomorrow evening.
The sun comes up earlier now, so people come a bit earlier for lotu. Tomas wasn’t feeling very well this morning. He did do the teaching and did a good job, but he let Amos look after the singing and the prayer time.
Right after lotu, we started laundry. While that was going, I got the holes punched in the students’ new Bible and music lessons that I had printed out last night, and then put the lessons in their folders. After we hung the clothes out, I worked on the song book file for a while.
Peeled and cut up potatoes and onions to cook for soup, and later added the pumpkin that was already cooked. Grated some ginger into it too. We enjoyed the soup for our dinner, and it was “just what the doctor ordered” for our colds. (There are lots of people sick with bad colds right now. The weather, though often sunny, has not been very warm lately.)
After dinner, Daddy went out and got the clothes. I cleaned up the kitchen, and put away the hang up clothes after he brought them in. Then we had our nap. Daddy got up in the middle of nap to go to the airstrip. MAF was flying today to make up for a couple lost days this past week due to the weather. They brought some medical supplies in today for the health center.
This afternoon, I worked on the next soul-winning lesson. I had already written it a while ago, but needed to put a copy in the students’ file, put in blanks for them to fill in, and add a few pictures. It took longer than I expected because I had a hard time finding pictures. I had to look through some of the old CD’s to find what I was looking for.
Before fixing supper, I cleaned the chalkboard and covered the bookshelves; then set up the table in the guest room so I can start painting fire for the drama.
It took almost no time at all to do the dishes. There were so few of them this evening. So I was able to get to the computer not long after 6:00.
“30But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.” I Corinthians 1:30,31
