July 22. No rain today, a mixture of clouds and sunshine. This morning after fixing breakfast, eating, and having quiet time, I did a little walking. Then I folded the clothes before working on some science lessons for the coming term.
People came at a good time for lotu today. I was happy to see Sani back again and gave her a big hug. Had a chance to give Paqi a hug today too. She usually is up and gone before I get a chance to shake her hand. She said she is feeling a lot better, but needs to get her strength back. Poor Sawe wasn’t feeling well today. Their pig bit him on the back. It must have bitten him pretty badly as he had quite a large bandage on it.
Daddy preached on Colossians 2:1-6 in the morning meeting and verses 7-10 in the afternoon meeting. There were so many good words of challenge and encouragement in those verses, and he gave lots of cross references too.
After nap today, I got things together for school tomorrow (except for some things that I need to print out tonight) and spent the rest of the afternoon adding and averaging grades for the report cards which they’ll get this week.
“Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” Hebrews 13:2
July 23. The Lord gave us a foggy morning, followed by overcast and very cool temperatures. The fire has been going all day. The Lord did give us some periods of sunshine this afternoon.
I was so cold in the schoolroom this morning. A cold north wind was blowing in over the wall. Not very helpful when battling a cold. Graham has a bad cold too, and I could tell he did not feel well. He did not come to church yesterday. I gave him a couple aspirin before school started, and that seemed to help him.
This morning, I made pancakes for myself — corn pancakes. I only had to make Daddy’s yesterday, as I still had a couple left over from last week.
We reviewed several verses in Bible class today, and I gave the students a review sheet if they want to study and quote all the verses from this term and earn a prize. Then I took them to the bookshelf and had one of the long-time students tell the new students how to take care of the books. Told them all that if new students come, it is their responsibility to show them how to take care of the books. After that, we reviewed and finished the Bible lesson we started last week. Tomorrow we’ll review again and then have the test. Then, if time, we’ll do a project.
Even though I hadn’t given out verse reminders last week for Psalm 118:24 in English, all the students said the verse from memory this morning. I was pleasantly surprised. We reviewed all the short and long syllables, then all the spelling words that they are to be studying for the test tomorrow. Then we did the last lesson in the first phonics book. After a short break, we finished the story Morning on the Farm. They really enjoyed that book with all the animal sounds.
After school, Esau stayed and cut firewood. We had our sandwiches for lunch because I didn’t have anything cooked for a big meal. After nap, I graded papers and recorded grades. I put some potatoes in the wood stove oven to bake; but, after an hour, they still were half-baked or less, so I put them in the pressure cooker to finish. Peeled and cooked the rest of the carrots too. Got everything together for school tomorrow. Put some pictures in the computer and set them up to send to Christy and Connie for printing.
While we were eating supper and I was doing dishes, my bath water was heating on the wood stove. I was thankful to get a bath early because the temperature is quickly dropping.
“5Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” Hebrews 13:5,6
