April 28. The Lord gave us lots of sunshine today, and a little rain this afternoon.
Slept in a few minutes later than usual this morning. Didn’t have to hurry and get up for anything.
Just before I had finished getting Daddy’s breakfast ready, Matthew came. He was all discouraged and didn’t sleep good last night because he was dwelling too much on some things someone had said to him... Seems like whenever there are victories, the devil goes after Matthew the next day to get him down. Daddy spent some time talking with him and praying with him.
After breakfast and quiet time. I took the trash out and burned it. Then I finished lesson plans for the first week of school. We were going to go out for a walk, but Daddy wanted to go up to the airstrip when the plane came so he waited to go for his walk then. I just did some walking around the house. Reorganized some boxes of books and put away the game things that we had used on fun day the last day of school. Did a little computer work until lunch time, making corrections in the Bible school lessons that Daddy had proofread, and getting some things ready to print this evening.
Just as we sat down to eat lunch, the plane came. I went ahead and ate my lunch, and Daddy went up to the airstrip. Ate his lunch when he got back. Then we had our nap.
This afternoon, I cleaned out one of the drums in our bedroom - set aside some things to sell, other things to give away, other things to use for rags. The rest of the stuff went back into the drum, but now there is room so I can empty some things out of boxes and put them in the drum.
After that, I got math lessons fixed up for the three extra students and pasteovers for the other nine students’ books. Also got the attendance chart fixed up and ready to print.
Daddy cut up part of a pumpkin for me to peel and dice and cook for supper. We still had leftover rice to eat with it. There were quite a few dishes this evening.
After that, I added some pictures to my desktop files before printing out papers for Bible school and school. By the time I was ready to start printing, Wilson had come for his second Bible school class.
“5And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” II Peter 1:5-8
April 29. Rained off and on most of the night. Today was wash day. We wondered if we would be hanging the clothes outside or in. By the time everything was washed, though, it looked like the sun would be shining. So the clothes got hung outside. There was still a thin layer of clouds above, and a few rain drops were falling as we were hanging clothes. Not long after we came inside, we heard more rain falling, but just lightly. The thin clouds stayed above us all morning, and every so often sent down a little rain. We thank the Lord that there was enough sunshine and wind in between the rain showers to dry the clothes.
Today was busy with various jobs. Put the words to Romans 10:9,10,13 to the music of “In the Garden.” Daddy helped make a little window in the little section of wall next to the stove so I can get sunlight from the laundry room window. It is always dark in that corner next to the stove, especially early in the morning and late in the afternoon. The little window helps a lot with that, but also has an added benefit. It gave me more light for doing dishes this evening too, until the sun had set.
While Daddy was doing the cutting, sawing, etc. for the window, I made some mandarin squares [cookie bars?]. By then it was almost lunch time, so I put a pot of water on to heat for spaghetti. While spaghetti was cooking, I worked on a soul-winning lesson; and when the spaghetti was almost done, I sautéed some onion to put in it, heated up spaghetti sauce, and warmed up leftover pumpkin.
Daddy went and got clothes in - some before lunch and the rest after - while I cooked and while I cleaned up the kitchen.
After nap I washed my hair. I had just gotten started on that when Lois (Rebecca) came. Hadn’t seen her for over two years. This was her first time to come this far from home since her legs have started getting stronger. There is still some healing that needs to take place, and she still uses crutches. I was delighted to see her. Talked with her for a while, then read some verses from the Gospel of John and prayed with her before she left.
After that, I had about an hour before supper to work on the soul-winning lesson. This evening was really busy with a lot of printing to do. It was the first evening of first year Bible school. There were 17 who came who had paid, plus a few that didn’t pay or only paid part. Only nine had paid ahead of time, and others brought the money with them when they came. So I had to go back and print more lessons for those who paid after arrival. Then I had to collate them and punch holes. That took quite a bit of time. After that, I worked more on the soul-winning lesson and have that almost finished.
“Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness…?” II Peter 3:11
