May 23. Fixed hot rice cereal for breakfast this morning. After breakfast and quiet time, I made a visual for the song Phinehas would be playing for his recital today -”In the Sunshine, In the Shadows.”
The students have finished memorizing John 3:1-21 in Bible class. Now they can study all the verses and say them to get a prize. They had a test in Bible class today, too. Then we started the new lesson, on the crucifixion of Christ. I didn’t realize it was going to break my heart as I related the story, but I started weeping as I was talking.
In phonics class today, they finished their phonics workbook. It was a fairly long lesson so we didn’t have time to read in the reader. But there was enough time for Dallas and Phinehas to play for their recital. They each made a couple mistakes, but that was to be expected the first time playing in front of others. Otherwise they did very well.
They also finished their science book today so next week will start on social studies. We did three “Hurrahs” for finishing science.
After nap this afternoon, I had my mineral drink and then cut up a small popo before going outside for a little fresh air and sunshine. When I came back inside, I put away things out of the last little box Daddy had brought home from town. Found some little gifts to send down to Judy for her birthday. Tomorrow she will turn four.
Put some eggs on to boil for egg salad for our supper sandwiches. Recorded grades. Already had all the papers graded for today. After supper and dishes, I practiced keyboard a while. Now some of the church folks are here practicing some songs to sing at outreach.
“And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.” Acts 5:32
May 24. Heard rain off and on during the night, and this morning was very, very foggy. It was about 10:00 before the fog lifted and the Lord sent some sunshine. The Lord sent more rain this afternoon.
MAF came in today with the twin otter. Took the CARE team out and brought Kelly in with a planeload of things for the health center. They are going to start building a rural hospital here in Owena to serve all of this area. This is the second rural hospital in the country. They will add on to the existing health center and put in ten beds for patients. There will be an x-ray machine, an operating theatre, and lots of other equipment for hospital use. They will be building ten new houses for doctors, nurses, and other health workers. Kelly said they are also supposed to put a surgeon in here. People from all the surrounding language groups will come here for any major health problems. Just think of the opportunities for spreading the gospel to these workers and patients!
We saved time at the end of Bible class this morning to practice our song once more so the students will be ready to sing on Sunday. They finished their reading workbooks this morning in phonics class and we did three “Hurrah’s” for that and the phonics workbooks they finished yesterday. Then they learned to sing “In the Sunshine, In the Shadows” and also sang the other English choruses they have learned.
Today is little Judy’s fourth birthday. I got a gift package ready and sent it down with Steve today.
This afternoon, I started sorting through books so I could find which ones to use for prizes for the school students when they say their Bible passage. Steve and Sosthenes both came this afternoon and recited their verses, but I didn’t have the prizes ready yet so told them to come back tomorrow and get them. Steve did an excellent job. He has really been diligent in learning his Bible verses. Oh, how I pray that he will get saved! I am glad that he has these verses hidden in his heart. Sosthenes did very well also.
Late this afternoon, we ran out of water. There was a trickle coming through the tub faucet, however, so Daddy filled up what buckets were empty, and then we started filling up the tub.
“38And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: 39But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.” Acts 5:38,39
