April 2. The last day of classes for this term. Tomorrow the students will come a little later. We’ll practice music first as they will be singing a couple specials for our song time on Sunday afternoon. Then we’ll have our end-of-term fun day. They will have a week holiday before school starts again.
After everyone said their memory verses, we practiced music this morning in Bible class. Didn’t want to start a new section in the lesson until after the holiday. In phonics class, they finished up the lesson in their reading workbook. In math class, they finished up a lesson, did a drill, and also did a challenge worksheet. Some of them took the worksheet home to finish. In their last class, they finished the lesson they had started Monday in science.
This afternoon, I finished filling in the report cards, found envelopes for them, trimmed up the cards to fit in the envelopes, and have them all ready to give out tomorrow. I also finished grading the challenge math papers that were done.
After supper, I started making sure things are ready for fun day until it got too dark. Now the lights are on so I’ll have to finish getting this ready. Sunny and Graham are here to finish checking today’s lessons, do the dishes, and have their computer lesson.
Early this morning, Obet’s young son (about 13 years old) was bitten by a snake. They carried him over here from Marivo. He was out in the bush cutting down a tree to bring to school when the snake bit him. Later in the morning, the plane arrived to take him to the hospital. We hope that he will be okay. He was not doing too well when they left here. Ham accompanied him to the hospital.
Holgar (the pilot) told Daddy that Owena is the only place in the Highlands where they have emergency flights for snake bite victims. I that that was quite strange, unless people in the other areas just don’t bother because they figure people are just going to die anyway.

April 3. It has been quite a day - not just busy, but hot. My, am I tired! The day started around 5:45. Since the students wouldn’t be coming until 8:30 this morning, we decided to go ahead and do laundry today. Then we won’t have to get up so early tomorrow morning. Only did two loads of wash today since there will be extra time next week to wash an extra day. Had breakfast and read Bible while clothes were washing. Prayed while I was hanging out clothes, and walked and prayed some more after I came inside.
Got everything out for our fun day. Practiced keyboard until the kids came. Our first half hour was spent practicing the two songs they’ll be singing on Sunday afternoon. Then we started the games. Bethuel won the surprise ball by guessing the number closest to what I had chosen. All the games were team games except for stacking the rings on the pole and putting the shapes into the snail. Team members were rotated after each game. After games there was lunch - rice and fish, peanuts, Rokroks (a type of cookie), and juice drink. (Daddy and I had egg salad sandwiches.) After all the cleanup was done, the students received their report cards and prizes, and then we all went out back and took some pictures.
Daddy had gone out and brought the clothes in while I was giving out report cards.
Before the students left, three of the boys helped Daddy empty the rest of the fuel out of the bottom of the diesel drum.
I was grateful for nap time although it was hard to rest because it was so hot and my back was hurting.
After nap, I was busy in the kitchen until after supper - rinsing and stacking all the dishes from the party; putting away other things from the party (all the game stuff is still not put away); sorting, washing, and cutting up greens and onion to cook for supper; making fish patties for supper.
After supper, I marked and recorded grades from the lessons that Sunny and Graham checked last night. Now I need to wash dishes, but I doubt very much that I will wash all the dishes this evening. There is quite a stack of them.
Daddy somehow managed to get a call through to Digicel today to let them know about our phone service problems. They said they had not received any other complaints, but would check things out. This afternoon, Daddy was able to send an e-mail out and get a couple in, and we were getting more bars on our phones so hopefully tomorrow we’ll be able to get a call through to Christy and Connie.
Daddy is busy teaching Bible school, and it is raining now.
Praise the Lord for news today that Obet’s son is recovering from the snake bite. How thankful we are for God’s mercy upon Obet and his family.
