December 25. Very warm and humid during the night. Another very humid day. A little rain this morning and some this evening.
Can’t remember what time I got up, but it wasn’t early. Had a sore throat yesterday evening and this morning. It seemed to have gone away before the morning was over, however.
Had a shower, breakfast, and quiet time. Got out scrapbooking things to try to work on Connie’s little album, but I am lacking a few supplies. I was able to start trimming photos and organize things a little better, however.
Around 9:30, I started work in the kitchen. Made a coffee cake first and put that into the oven to bake. Then I got out the chicken, sprinkled it with salt and some herbs, covered it with aluminum foil, and put that into the oven. I thought it would only take about two hours to cook and would be done around 12:00, or 12:30 at the latest. Wrong thinking. Didn’t realize the meat was still quite frozen in the middle. After it heated enough so I could get the pieces apart, I separated them and put some in another pan. They were all chicken legs. 12:30 came along, and things still weren’t done, so I called Ellen (Judy's sister) to let her know. She said it would be okay if we were late.
When I checked the chicken for doneness at 12:30, I discovered that there was lots of broth. So I poured the broth off into a pan; and while the chicken continued cooking, I made some gravy.
It was about 1:15 when we finally left here. Got to Ellen’s house around 1:45. Christy and Connie were already there. We ate our dinner and then sat around and talked.
Left Ellen’s around 5:30. The clouds looked beautiful but very threatening. Stopped to take some pictures. Stopped and looked at a house on Cider Dr. It is one we have been seeing signs for that is for sale by owner. We will call to see what he has to say about it. It may be too small.
We were thankful to get home just in time before the storm arrived.
No nap today so we were both tired this evening.
December 26. A rainy day was predicted to come after the morning fog; but it turned out to be a beautiful, sunny day, and very warm. We left here around 8:40 to go pick up Christy and Connie for our trip to Hickory. The parking lots and stores were quite crowded today. Went first to Sears. Looked at the mattress sets again downstairs. Went back upstairs to pick up our glasses. Wow! What a difference! I’m so happy to be able to gaze through clear lenses after several years with cloudy, scratched glasses.
Next stop was the food court to get something for lunch. Christy got a tuna melt sub at Subway. Lew got a meatball sub. And I got a tuna veggie salad. From there we went up the road to Wendy’s so Connie could get a cheesy baked potato and a frosty. Daddy and Christy each got a frosty too.
Last of all, we went to Ollie’s, a discount bargain store. Looked around for a while, but mostly I was looking for a Bible. Found only one KJV Bible that I was happy with, and it was the only one of its kind.
After that, we headed to C&C’s house. The weather was pretty warm by then, and Daddy put the A/C on in the car. It is hard to fathom having the A/C on late in December. They picked up their van, and we all went to Aldi and WalMart in Shelby on the way to our house. Needed to get a few groceries for dinner tomorrow.
It was 4:30 or so when we got home. No nap again today. Lots of work to do to prepare for dinner tomorrow.
“4Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. 8Charity never faileth….” I Corinthians 13:4-8
