It was the first day of school for the second term. Everyone remembered to bring his report card back. We had Matthew announce yesterday for them to bring them back. If they forgot, they would have to go back home and get them and would be marked late for school.
A number of students arrived early, and I gave them some stickers to color. Also gave them bananas. We had lots and lots of very ripe bananas.
After prayer and singing “How Did Moses Cross the Red Sea?”, we looked at the calendar for this term. Not really anything for events, other than Sosthenes’ birthday in June and celebration of Graham’s and Bethuel’s birthdays on fun day the end of the term. Then we talked about having some sales so they could save money for school projects or events. After that, we started learning the new Bible verse, Numbers 32:23. We just had a few minutes left to start looking at the next Bible lesson.
Bethuel and Phinehas arrived during the middle of phonics class. They had hoped to have been back yesterday, but the road between Goroka and Okapa was closed due to a landslide so the buses had to go around through Kainantu to Okapa. Bethuel and Phinehas slept at Aivonti last night and must have gotten up early this morning to get back here for school. Phinehas had gone to Kudjip to be with his brother Philemon for the holidays, and Bethuel had gone to Goroka to meet Phinehas when he came back.
During math class, it suddenly dawned on me that I had forgotten to announce for the students to bring lunch today. So after Oral English class, I gave them each a snack - a pack of Marie biscuits and another banana. After a short snack break, we had spelling class. While they were doing their written work, I started warming up our soup so we could eat as soon as class was over.
It was about 2:00 when we got to nap, and 3:00ish when I woke up. Then I washed my hair, cut up a popo, finished grading the spelling lessons, set up grade record sheets for the second term, practiced singing the new Bible verse to the tune of “Standing on the Promises,” and started getting things ready for tomorrow’s lessons. Finished getting things ready after supper before I did dishes and while it was still light because we are not running the generator this evening.
Wilson is here now for his next Bible school lesson.
“1Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. 2Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 3And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.” I John 3:1-3
