August 29. It was well after 10:00 before we got to bed last night. Then about an hour later leg pains forced me out of bed for a mineral drink. I had forgotten to have some in the evening. I was thankful for a pretty good sleep the rest of the night.
The day dawned clear and sunshiny - a perfect day for a flight. I fixed rice porridge for breakfast. It was a first for the Venters, and they seemed to enjoy it. After breakfast, Gill did the dishes. I got the bed made, read my Bible, and swept the floor before heading off to school. Toward the end of Bible class, Daddy came in and said that the plane would be here shortly. So we ended that class so I could say good-by to the Venters and so the students could carry their baggage to the airstrip and say good-by to them there. We had enjoyed a good time with them. I hope they didn’t get too worn out.
I did not go up to the airstrip, but enjoyed a little time out in the sunshine until after the plane left. Got a video of the plane taking off.
When the students came back we had phonics class - read and discussed the next lesson in the reader, and the students answered questions on it. After recess, they made flash cards for the 9 division facts, did some drill, and had their math lesson. Most of them are having trouble multiplying when the three-digit multiplicand has a zero in the middle. So we’ll have to do more practice on that tomorrow. In social studies class, we reviewed what they’ve learned so far about the continents, and then did the lesson on directions - north, south, east, west.
For dinner, we had leftover chicken ‘n’ veggies ‘n’ gravy on rolls. When we got up from nap, the weather had completely changed - very cool and cloudy, and some rain too. Daddy got the wood stove going after a while. I had a little bit of grading and recording of grades to do. Got things ready for school tomorrow. Put all the pictures into the computer that I had taken the past few days and started editing them. Finished the job of editing after supper and put the video in the other computer and then on flash drives. I must have taken about 100 pictures. Deleted several of them, and had around 90 that I edited. I still need to compress them all.
I was thankful for a nice stand-up bath this evening. Now it is 9:00 so am late writing in the journal again.
“7For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. 8For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. 9For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.” Romans 14:7-9
August 30. This morning dawned bright and clear just like yesterday morning. It looked like it would be a beautiful day. But the clouds soon came, and the morning never did warm up much. It was very cool and windy this afternoon, and Daddy got the fire going again.
Before school this morning, I had a little time to work on lesson plans for next week. Don’t have quite as much to plan since we missed a couple days this week - on Monday the kids were too tired after mourning for the dead, and on Wednesday they had the special teaching session with the Venters.
In Bible class today, they reviewed the books of the Old Testament, then Romans 10:12, then some music theory, before practicing a couple exercises and short songs on the keyboard.
In phonics class, we reread the lesson in the reader, did the exercises in the reading workbook, and started the worksheet. They are starting a series of lessons copying poems now. They look forward to Friday math class as they get to play a math game. Then in English class, they had a spelling quiz and a review lesson on nouns and verbs.
After school, they asked about practicing some songs to sing at the youth camp if they are given opportunity to sing. So we will try to practice on Tuesday and Saturday evenings before they go. There are three Saturdays and three Tuesdays left until then. They said there are 15 young people planning on going, plus David and Mike.
We had sandwiches for lunch and then enjoyed a nice nap. After nap, there was grading and recording of grades to do. For snack, I warmed up some of the banana bread and mashed the rest of the strawberries with a little sugar. We enjoyed the strawberries on top of the banana bread. Then I worked more on lesson plans for next week before starting supper. Put a pot of rice and soup mix on to cook. Cut up the other broccoli and peeled and cut up carrots and put those on to cook. My, it takes so long to peel those little carrots! My shoulder was hurting quite a bit by the time I was done. Warmed up the rest of the ranch style beans which we enjoyed on the rice.
Not too many dishes this evening which was nice. When I finished doing dishes, I picked out some songs to practice with the young people.
Daddy is having Bible school now with the men. They were supposed to come last night, but they all forgot. It has been quite a few weeks since they have had Bible school as there were no lights in the evening. We are thankful to have the generator back. Even though it doesn’t work quite right, at least it works enough to have some power, until Daddy can find another generator.
“11For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. 12So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” Romans 14:10,11
