July 22. The rat FINALLY ate his rat poison last night. Every rat is different, and some of them are harder to figure out than others. This rat was one of the smart guys. Most rats are tempted by peanuts or flour, but this rat wouldn’t go for either one. (We’ve even had some rats that like soap, or salt, or oil.) This rat really went for bananas. We thought we had the bananas hung up so the rat couldn’t get to them, but this rat apparently was a good jumper. Last night before bed, I wrapped plastic bags around the bananas. Not long after 10:00, I heard the noise of plastic and metal. The rat apparently jumped onto the bananas, but slipped off the plastic and hit the rolling cart on its way to the floor. We didn’t hear him any more after that; but toward morning, Daddy saw that he had been eating from the dish of poison - first the bananas and peanuts and poison, and last of all the flour. So we’ll have to feed him another little piece of banana and some more poison tonight. (Later: After that, he must have gone off and died somewhere. Another rat came the next night, but he wasn’t a smart one. He went right for the glue trap, and that was the end of him. No more rats since then.)
The morning was clear, and there was nice sunshine the first part of the morning. Later in the morning, the skies clouded over.
Two airplanes came in early this afternoon - SIL and MAF. Daddy had gone up to talk to the pilots, but I was taking my nap. MAF brought in supplies for the community school, including lots of roofing iron. SIL picked up the election team members and ballot boxes.
I had just gotten up from nap about the time Daddy came back. Daddy then had a nap, and I finished grading students’ work for today. Then I got everything ready for tomorrow, got a Bible test made up which the students will take tomorrow, and made fish patties for supper.
This evening, we are using the inverter to operate the Canon printer and print copies of the Bible test. Also printed outline of II Corinthians 1 for Daddy to give to Matthew. Matthew will be doing the preaching on II Corinthians in a few weeks after Daddy finishes I Corinthians.
“20He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; 21And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. 22And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.” Romans 4:20-22
July 23. Today the Lord gave us a little bit more sun. That’s good for the battery because it loses power quickly these days. It went red last night before I shut down the computer.
We finished school a little bit early today. Then Esau, Steve, and Sosthenes cut firewood. They filled sixteen boxes so that should last a little while.
Matthew finished making corrections in the Bible verses Daddy had given the men to correct for the school students to learn. (Daniel had finished the first part a couple days ago.) I put those corrections in the computer this afternoon before supper, and this evening, I got memory verse reminders set up for John 1:1-3. Have been working on the drama for the school closing as well.
“23Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; 24But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; 25Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.” Romans 4:23-25
