In Bible class today, we finished up lesson 17. Will be ready for the review game on Monday. In tokples Jonas and Stephanas are really catching on to reading and writing. They are the two youngest and smallest students. The students learned the letter “y” and practiced more reading of their little books. I let some of the kids try writing some new words again.
The kids were really wound up today. They must have been ready for the weekend break. We finished a bit early today as we got everything done quickly in English class. Had a test on things relating to the calendar. Reviewed first things. Played a game with the word “red.” Reviewed the dialogues and monologues.
SIL had Daddy come up on CRMF sked today to tell him that they will not be able to bring in that water tank. So we will have to see if the company will take it back, or if Pacific Helicopter will have a helicopter in the area some time and can sling it in.
This afternoon, ten of the school children (all but Rebecca) went and carried gravel to use for the cement for a water tank base. They were supposed to get sand, but Daddy said it was more like gravel. They all got a bar of soap, two pieces of bubble gum, and a lolly (candy). They said they will go again and get sand.
Serah had a couple hours of work to do again today. It took her over an hour to pick through some Weet Bix that had bugs in it. We had roasted it a bit to kill the bugs. She crushed them up one by one and picked out all the dead bugs. We still have another half box of Weet Bix to roast and have picked over.
"Forget not all His benefits." Psalm 103:2
Let us, then, weave His mercies into a song. Let us take the pure gold of thankfulness, and the jewels of praise and make them into another crown for the head of Jesus. Let our souls give forth music as sweet and as exhilarating as came from David's harp, while we praise the Lord whose mercy endureth for ever.—Morning and Evening
July 10. A cold morning -55º. But the Lord gave us sunshine to warm up the air. Nuanda was sick this morning so Luke was in charge of lotu.
This morning was busy trying to get things together for this week’s classes in school. Made fish patties for dinner and had canned minted peas and canned beets because we don’t have any fresh veggies right now. Daddy got the clothes in while I was fixing dinner. We both took quite a long nap today. After nap, we went to visit Nuanda a few minutes, and then went to see Rebeka down at Jevin’s house. Rebeka has been sick almost two weeks now — fever and headache at night. The medicine they’ve been giving her does not seem to be helping. She doesn’t sleep much at night, but is able to sleep in the morning. She was sitting outside when we went down. Putaso was there visiting with her too. Daddy prayed for her before we came back up to the house.
When we got back, I cleaned the bathroom, swept spider webs off the ceiling, and made black and white brown-ices for Daddy. Then we had supper, and I did the dishes. Made a visual for this week’s Bible verse. And worked more on lessons for school this coming week. Now it is about time for our Saturday night bath. Ahhh! That will be nice.
“And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.” Genesis 7:1
“28Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
July 11. Cold again this morning.
The highlight of the morning was a chat with Christy and Connie. Thank you, Lord, for that special blessing.
Daddy preached both meetings today as Nuanda was still not feeling well enough. Finished up Romans chapter 1. Luke translated both meetings, as Ben is still not very well, although he was there. Has a bad cold.
Jevin and Miriam weren’t in church today. They are both sick with colds now. Said that Frina was coming down with it also. Hope it doesn’t knock some of the kids out of school. And I started feeling worse this afternoon — just from being in a bit of cool wind in church. Can’t seem to knock this out of my system. Started on amoxicillin this evening.
Daddy and I both slept a good nap this afternoon. Then it was time for teachers’ meeting. Extra printing to do this evening, with Bible school beginning this week. Also printed out lesson papers for Tuesday and some Owena alphabet cards, a set of small letters and a set of capital letters, to use for a concentration game.

“Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.” John 15:14
This photo shows the school girls. I think there are a couple of teachers in there too.
