January 26. This morning, we sat and talked for a while. Then we went out to buy a couple groceries and do some walking at the mall.
When we got back, I got busy making a cake for the ladies’ meeting this evening. I had originally planned to make a pumpkin pie, but there is no pie plate here so decided to make a pumpkin cake.
While the cake was cooking, I fixed a small amount of rice for our dinner and cooked a couple ears of corn.
By then the pumpkin cake was done cooking so decided it would be best to try a piece before feeding it to someone else. Daddy tried his bite first while I was still eating. He said it wasn’t very sweet. It should have been sweet enough, so why did it taste that way? When he says that something with plenty of sugar isn’t sweet, what is missing? SALT! It dawned on me then that the recipe did not call for any salt.
After lunch, I called Bette to see if she could take a passenger to the meeting. She was glad to do that and would take C&C too if they would want to come here and get a ride.
We had our nap, and when we got up, the cake was cool enough to put away - part in the fridge and part in the freezer. I’ll just make a dip instead and take the corn chips that I picked up today at Big Lots. The dip turned out fine. Then I decided to go ahead and dump the chips into the bowl ahead of time. What was that smell? Rancid! Yuk! Into the garbage went the chips. Now what?
I went ahead and changed and got all ready to go. Then I rushed around washing and cutting up veggies to prepare some finger food to have with the dip. By the time I got all that done, Bette was out here with her car. C&C had called and said they would be coming so B said she would wait five minutes. They arrived just in time, and climbed in for the ride.
There must have been more than 20 ladies there. At the beginning, groups of 3 or 4 were given a short mystery story to try to solve. The group who solved theirs first got to be first to get their food. I somehow got to be a one-person group, and mine didn’t get solved, but I got to eat anyway. :-) Enjoyed fellowshipping a bit with Mary M and Karen C. After supper and fellowship, sister Lisa gave announcements and led a Bible study. Then she played a little remembrance game and gave out quarters to those who remembered her earlier announcements and were the first to raise their hand and give the correct answer. At the end we drew names for secret sisters.
It was 9:00 already when we got home.
“12And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you: 13To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.” I Thessalonians 3:12,13
