February 26. Woke up to another overcast morning. It looked like it was going to stay that way again all day. But this afternoon, when we got up from nap, there was sunshine. I was so happy to see the sunshine. I took the peanuts and put them out in the sun. Then I walked around for a while out in the sunshine. It was a bit humid, but not too windy, and it felt good to get ouside for a little bit. Praise the Lord for the sunshine.
Woke up a few minutes early this morning so got up and had breakfast and quiet time. Also finished getting things ready for Phinehas’s birthday party. Had juice to make, a very ripe pineapple to cut up that someone had brought us, and peanuts to roast and put into little party cups. After that I did a few little things in the computer until school time.
The students finished math class early today which was nice. In science class, I had them study for their test. Didn’t think they would have time to do the test today, but it didn’t take them long to study so they did the test too. It was still only about 11:40 when everyone was done. They started to leave, but I told them they couldn’t go yet. Normally I would let them go after a test, but today they had to help me make a decision. Of course, I had already decided what to do, but wanted to use this occasion to help them think about God’s love and grace. When Phinehas came last year (I think it was around the end of September), he told me his birthday was in August. Since August was already past, we celebrated his birthday the same day as Bonita’s in October. Later he brought me his medical record book to look at, and I discovered that his birthday is February 26. I told that story to the students today, and then I asked them, “What shall we do? Do you think we should give Phinehas another party?”
Some said “no” and some said “yes.”
I asked, “Do you think Phinehas is good enough to have another party?”
Most of them said “Yes.”
I asked, “Who is there among all of us who is good?”
“Nobody.”
“Hmmm! Then what shall we do?”
Silence.
“Why does God give us good things?”
Now they perked up, and various ones answered, “Because He loves us.” “Because He is merciful and gracious.”
“Yes, and He wants us to be happy too. Do we love Phinehas and do we want him to be happy?”
A unanimous “yes.”
“Then shall we have a party?”
Another unanimous “yes.”
And so we did. It was a fun time for them. And Daddy and I got to have an early lunch and an early nap too.
After my little walk in the sunshine this afternoon, I cut Daddy’s hair. Then there was a popo that needed to be cut up for snack. I sat down for a little while with my snack and then went out for another few minutes in the sunshine before finishing up grading papers and recording grades.
After that, I worked on another soul-winning lesson until supper time. Made spaghetti this evening, and we had leftover greens.
After Daddy turned on the generator, I printed out new Bible school lessons for his students for tomorrow evening, another music sheet with one of the new songs for the choir to learn, and our shopping list. Now it is about time for choir practice. A handful have already arrived.
“35Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. 36And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. 37And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. 38I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.” John 4:35-38
