May 4. Slept in a few minutes later this morning, and even took a longer nap this afternoon. I was kinda worn out, I guess.
We were thankful for clouds today as a few men did come and work on cutting the grass on the airstrip, and Daddy worked a good part of the day raking. They didn’t finish the whole airstrip as there weren’t enough people to do that, but they got the worst of it done so at least Brent should be able to come in safely. We praise the Lord for those who came and worked.
The Lord only sent us a few sprinkles of rain today, although we could see rain in the north and west.
After breakfast and quiet time this morning, I did a little walking. Then cut and stapled the doctrinal booklets I had printed out the other day. Was about ready to go to school when I remembered that I might have some envelopes that their report cards would fit in. Went and rounded up those envelopes. Had to cut a narrow strip off each side of the report card in order for them to fit, but that was no problem.
Then it was off to school. Today was a fun day. First we prayed and sang a couple songs. I gave the boys’ Owena language tests back to them. Then we had another Bible quiz using the rest of the cards that they didn’t use yesterday. Sosthenes won that game today. After the Bible quiz, they had to dump and restack the colored rings on the pole. They each took a turn, and I marked their time. Graham won that one.
We did another timed game, fitting the shapes into the right spaces in the snail. Can’t remember who won that one. After that, they put together the two alphabet puzzles, two on a team, changing teams each time so they did the puzzles three times. Then they did the alphabet, number, and shapes puzzles. And last of all the animal puzzles.
For the next game, I laid out about 3 dozen English word flash cards. Then they took turns finding words that I called for — what word rhymes with…? what is the opposite of…? what word means…? etc. Amazingly Bonita did the best in that game. The last game was to give them each a set of number cards which they had to line up in order. All in all, everybody won at least two games.
After the games, we had refreshments — peanuts, banana muffins, and sarsi. I took pictures of most of the games and took a couple group pictures before they went home. Also gave them their report cards. It was about 11:00 when they all left to go home. Daddy was still over working at the airstrip so I worked on lesson plans for the week we come back from town. Waited until he came back before I warmed up our spaghetti and corn for dinner.
This afternoon, I finished up lesson plans for the first week of the new term. Then I started baking — another baking day today. Baked for myself today — granola to take to town; whole wheat crackers with seaweed, onion, garlic, and fennel seed; and fried bread for my supper. I don’t digest the town bread that well; and also if I have the fried bread, there will be enough town bread to last for Daddy until we go to town Monday.
I forgot to heat the dish water while we were eating supper, but that was okay because it gave me some time to sit down and relax before doing dishes. And along with the baking dishes, and the dishes for the kids’ refreshments, and our regular dishes, there were lots of them again tonight — even more than last night. I had to dry some of them to make room for everything.
