September 11. So many things to pray for - many needs here among the Owena people; many who still need to be saved; many who profess to be saved, but exhibit no fruit. Oh, that there would be some men like Joshua and Caleb who will wholly follow the Lord!
John tried to get on one of the planes that came in today so he could go out to town, but he didn’t get there in time. He told Daddy he didn’t know if he would be back or not. Health worker Andy has already left; and if John leaves, Margaret (his wife and a health worker) will also leave. John is the head teacher for the community school so what will happen to the school? It is hard to know. And to the clinic?
When not busy with class, I was busy today getting ready for tomorrow’s celebrations - birthday parties for Bonita, Mike, and PNG. I’ve got black, red, yellow, and white streamers hanging; and now I need someone to blow up balloons.
“6And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, 7Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.” Exodus 34:6,7

Please be in earnest prayer for Mom and Dad and for the Owena people. How powerful is prayer? Sometimes when we pray for a missionary, we wonder if it is helping. We cannot see the missionary. He and his family and his mission field seem far away, almost like a distant dream. Yet, they are close to God. He can see them there just as easily as He can see us here. And He will hear and answer prayer. Here is a quote that illustrates how powerfully God works through the prayers of His children.
“The Spirit of God has commenced His operations, and surely He will go on. Oh, for a more general spirit of prayer and supplication! I hear from my friend, Miss Leeds, that the very time of the awakening here was the season of extraordinary prayer among the churches at home. What a coincidence and an encouragement to persevere in that most important part of Christian duty!”
~Mary Moffet, while in South Africa
Please pray for a spiritual awakening in the hearts of the people of Owena - believers and non-believers alike. Such a prayer, God will surely hear.
