June 18. 7:20 p.m. The house is very quiet, except for the hum of the inverter. Nobody around outside. I just finished getting a nice stand-up bath. The Lord gave us rain off and on during the night and early this morning. There was lots of fog this morning. By mid-morning, we were open enough for the plane to get in. He had another flight first, and it was around 1:00 before he arrived here. I was already taking my nap, and Daddy was up at the airstrip waiting for him. It was after 1:30 before they took off, and I was already up from my nap.
I was thankful that I gave the kids the day off school today. The morning was busy doing laundry, fixing leftover pancakes for breakfast, and helping Daddy make sure everything was ready for his trip to town. He ended up having dinner here before he left since the plane was late getting in.
Also this morning, I cut up a popo and filled a small container for Daddy to take to town. Put the rest in the fridge for myself. Started cleaning some places where the linoleum in the kitchen was coming apart so Daddy could tape it up. As I was bending over scrubbing, blood all of a sudden started pouring out of my nose. I had Daddy hand me a tissue, and then I went to get more. My nose kept bleeding and bleeding and bleeding. I finally got it blown out so it stopped, but lost quite a bit of blood. That was quite a surprise as I haven’t had a nose bleed for many, many years.
I got everything together out in the schoolroom for tomorrow, and did the final proofreading of Pidgin Colossians so we can print out copies of that when Daddy gets back. He is just about done with Romans and will be teaching Colossians next. Also got the rest of the little men cut out that the students will be using for patterns tomorrow to draw a man in their reading workbook.
People kept coming to the door all morning, too, trying to give last minute orders which Daddy wouldn’t take. Some of them wrote out their orders and sent money out for Steven to buy things for them. Other people brought money to give to their kids who are at school in town. Endru and Esta came to give money for Katrina.
Simaru brought three eggs for which I am very grateful so I will have something for sandwiches this week. This afternoon, Sera brought some potatoes and gave them to me.
After dinner, Daddy helped me get the clothes in; and after nap, I got them folded and put away. Then I prepared five party plates with cookies, peanuts, lollies, and bubble gum. Wrapped them with plastic wrap and put them in the cupboard for Sosthenes birthday party tomorrow. Made some lemonade for the party too with the handful of lemons that were still left. Had gotten a little gift bag ready for Sosthenes yesterday.
Got the wood stove ready for starting a fire in the morning. Looked over some verses to read in case any ladies come to visit this evening. Also found a song that they can learn to sing. Had a dish of popo and banana for snack. Then worked on some practical assignment ideas for Daddy to use with the Bible school students.
It was about 5:30 before I had my supper. It was already getting dark because it had been raining off and on this afternoon. Had to turn the light on in order to do dishes. After dishes, I cut out little women while my bath water was heating.
“11For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, 12Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee. 13And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me. 14Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; 15And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” Hebrews 2:11-15
June 19. Got up this morning when I saw that it was getting light out. The Lord gave us a bit of rain during the night, and there was a lot of fog on the other side of the river this morning, but it did not come here. It was 54º when I got up. Got the fire going and got my breakfast. Kids started coming early for rubbish. It was soon gone.
After breakfast and quiet time, I did some walking and praying. Put some eggs on the wood stove to boil. Cooked up the rest of the popo too. Worked on some things in the computer before school. Forgot about the fire so it was a little bit chilly when we first started school. But the Lord sent some nice sunshine, and opening the windows brought in some nice warm air.
Today was Sosthenes’ birthday. He is fourteen. When classes were done, I got the birthday treats put on the table in the schoolroom. I asked whose birthday it was. Nobody knew. They guessed everybody else before they finally came down to Sosthenes. We sang “Happy Birthday” to Sosthenes and then prayed. Then the kids ate — Rokrok cookies, peanuts, lemonade, lollies, and bubble gum. Well, I guess they didn’t “eat” the bubble gum. Gave Sosthenes a small gift bag with some little gifts in it, including a birthday balloon. Gave each of the other kids a balloon too. Took some pictures.
Made egg salad sandwiches for lunch. After nap, I went outside in the sunshine a while. Then got stuff together for tomorrow’s lessons. Apekio came about the time I was getting snack so I didn’t have my snack until after 4:00. Mashed some banana with carob powder and a dab of honey. Made my taste buds happy.
Apekio brought me some yams. They had lots of root hairs on them. She said they had lots of whiskers. I told her she should get a razor and shave them. Brought some onions too, but I did not need them. She stayed quite a while and we talked.
After she left and I had my snack, I started supper cooking. Put on rice and lentils and then cut up the pumpkin. It was a soft pumpkin so was not hard to cut. It was about 5:30 when I ate supper. There weren’t many dishes so I just heated a small amount of water and did them up. Now it is time to wash up a bit.
“17Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. 18For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.” Hebrews 2:17,18
