October 10. Some rain during the night. We saw some patches of blue sky in the west when we got up this morning, but they disappeared quickly - long before the sun could find them. The sun must have found a little hole early in the afternoon as we had about one minute of sunshine around 1:00. It has been another day for the wood stove to be kept fired up all day.
There were only some hundreds of flying ants last night, or maybe a thousand. So there wasn’t nearly as much cleaning up to do this morning.
The last class time of school today was spent trimming and painting boxes with yellow “paint” so we can make fire. Dallas and Phinehas didn’t find any red “paint” so they’ll have to go look somewhere else. The “paint” is actually the root of a plant, and is like a large crayon. They peeled the skin off and “colored” quite a few boxes yellow. (see picture below post; picture was apparently taken after they found the red.) Then I gave them some soap and a towel and sent them all outside to the water tap to wash their hands. When they came back in, we had a birthday party for Sunny. She is 26 today.
I had a long nap today. The rooster came and crowed by our bedroom less than an hour after we lay down; but I was too tired to get up. I slept almost another hour after that. After grading their math worksheets, recording today’s grades, and averaging up their social studies grades, I washed the last five potatoes and a handful of carrots, cut them up in little pieces, and put them on to cook. When they were done, I added them to the leftover chicken and broccoli to make chicken stew for supper.
Eugene and Esrom came around 4:15 to cut firewood. We have used a lot of firewood the past few days with all the clouds and rain that make the house chilly. They had about four friends helping them, and they worked until dark.
After supper, I made sure things were ready for school tomorrow before I did dishes. Even with all the cups and things from the party today, there were not very many dishes tonight. I was thankful to be able to get off my feet early.
I just got a worksheet printed for math class tomorrow.
Now people are coming for Bible school.
“5For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. 6For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 7But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” II Corinthians 4:5-7
