Setpember 12. Almost 8:00 p.m. There is no Bible school again this evening because of the rain. Both of us are very tired as we found it hard to sleep at nap time.
As soon as we woke up this morning, we got up. It was about ten ‘til six. I had asked Daddy to get me up about quarter ‘til so I could finish getting everything ready for the party today, but he didn’t wake up. That was okay - everything was ready in plenty of time before school. I even had a little time to work at the computer before school started.
We reviewed Bible verses and music theory during the first half of Bible class this morning. Four of the young men had their second turn to play the scale on the keyboard. Then we practiced “Imanyuel I Kam Daun” and “Olgeta Promis Bilong God I Tru” (Every Promise of God is True) before starting to learn “God I Wokim Olgeta Samting” (God Created All Things).
After break, they had their spelling quiz and English lesson. Finished that class early so had recess and came back early for math class. It was good to have a little extra time for our review game and for finishing the lesson they started yesterday. After another short break, we started oral English class. I did not grade their speeches today, but just enjoyed listening to their thoughts on the meaning and importance of Independence Day. Then Sosthenes led the national anthem and Esau led the pledge to the flag. Mike took the rest of the class and told the Gospel story using the PNG flag.
In the mean time, MAF came and brought our food supplies that Melanie had purchased and packed up for us. Praise the Lord for this special blessing, saving Daddy a trip out to town this month.
After that, it was time for the birthday party. We celebrated three birthdays today - Bonita’s, Mike’s, and Papua New Guinea’s. Bonita’s mother fixed a big pot of rice to go with what I had fixed. They also had bananas, peanuts, lollipops, Rokrok cookies, and orange Tang. Phinehas prayed for the two individuals and for this country. While they had their lunch, we had ours. Then I gave gift bags to Bonita and Mike, took their pictures, took pictures of the whole class, gave out the balloons and streamers, and took more pictures of the class. After they cleaned up, they all went home. I put away things that came on the plane and needed to go in the freezer, and then we lay down for nap.
Since we weren’t sleeping, we finally got up after a half hour of tossing and turning. There was more food to put away after getting up; plus spelling quizzes, English lessons, and math to correct. Then I made pizza for supper. It was nice to have some meat to put in it. I had prepared carrots and broccoli in the morning while the students were doing some of their lessons so those were all ready to be cooked.
After supper, there were some important e-mails to write. Then I did dishes, but did not wash the party dishes. We didn’t do laundry this evening either. It would have been too much for me with all the other things that went on today. We will get up early in the morning and do a couple loads before lotu. Then we will hang them out after lotu. We can do more laundry early in the week, as there is no school this next week - Independence Day holiday.
