Sorry, I don't have a picture of the hardworking boys. :-)
February 19. A little bit after 7:00 p.m. And it is cold. Down to 60º already. And there is a cool breeze blowing. It has been a dry day, but the cold winds started blowing early this morning. I wanted to start a fire, but could not get the fire to start.
Tomas said the men would probably be here for Bible school this evening, and Amos just came to say they were waiting for David to come. If David comes, they will start the generator and have Bible school.
It was going on 7:30 before lotu started this morning. Amos preached from Acts 4:23-31. It was an encouraging message, and Matthew continued the application after Amos finished. Then we had prayer requests, and Matthew prayed. It was after 8:30 when we finished.
In phonics class, we read another story about Joseph and then did the lesson in the reading workbook. In math today, they started reviewing money. Some of them seemed to have a hard time with the lesson, and class went late. In English class, they had their journal entry to write. Then we reviewed this week’s spelling words before starting a new lesson in the English grammar book. It was about 12:30 when we finished school today. Then I had Sunny do another writing lesson with Tania and Peninnah.
Finished up the grading while I was eating and before nap. It was 2:00 when I lay down and about 2:50 when I got up. Washed my hair and then got things ready for tomorrow’s lessons. Then I made biscuits for my supper.
“7I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” II Timothy 4:7,8
February 20. 8:00 p.m. already. It has been a dry day, but cool and windy and partly overcast.
The men are here having Bible school this evening.
It was after 10:30 when I got to bed last night. Was working on the booklet on Christian growth. Woke up a little before 5:00 again this morning. After getting dressed and doing exercises, I fixed some hot rice cereal. Then sat down to eat and read Bible.
While I was eating, Daddy called. When we finished talking, I did some walking and praying. Then I remade the fire and finally got a fire started. It was cold this morning, and I was happy for a fire. After that, I looked up some Bible verses on the second coming and thousand year reign that Tomas had asked for.
Since I wasn’t able to print a test for Bible class, we did the music lesson this morning after reviewing verses. That is, we did the first page of the music lesson. It took some of them quite a while to figure out how to write the words and notes in the exercises. Tomorrow they can learn the new symbol and play the song.
Phinehas wasn’t feeling well this morning so went right home after classes. Sunny did another writing lesson with Tania and Peninnah. Dallas, Steve, and Sosthenes stayed and chopped firewood.
I fixed my lunch and graded papers while I was eating. Went for nap around 2:20. The boys were still working. And they were still working when I got up. And they were still working at supper time.
After my nap, I got things ready for tomorrow’s lessons, and then worked on next week’s lesson plans until time to start supper. I couldn’t think of what I wanted to have, but finally decided on pumpkin soup. So I got out the pumpkin and washed it and got ready to cut it up. There were several knocks at the door before I finally got the pumpkin cut up, then peeled and cut into smaller pieces to be cooked. It was after 5:30 before my soup was ready.
While I was making the soup, Sosthenes came in and said they were hungry and asked if I could cook them some noodles. I wasn’t surprised they were hungry after working all afternoon. So I was happy to cook the noodles. In the mean time, Maro’s mother came with three ears of corn — just enough for three hungry boys. So I husked the corn and put it in the pressure cooker. Also heated up the leftover greens and added those to their meal. Then I went out to see if they were done working (they were just about done) and told them dinner was ready.
Shortly they brought all the firewood inside — nineteen boxes plus a big box of chips. Dinner was on the table, and they sat down to eat. I had my soup over on the desk where I was eating and working on lesson plans. So I finished eating there, and they enjoyed their dinner together.
After they left, I put the dishwater on to heat and did dishes as soon as that was ready. It was about 7:15 when I finished. A couple of the Bible school men were here, but David wasn’t here yet. As soon as he came, Amos started the generator (around 7:25).
I put some water on to heat for bath, and then finished up the phonics lesson plans for next week. Had my bath and then a snack, and now it is 9:00.
“And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” II Timothy 4:18
