October 16. Going on 8:30 p.m. Wrote some e-mails and had a bath before getting down to journal writing. Just got the e-mails sent and received an e-mail from Christy with a picture of the cross stitch she made and her car which had been badly damaged by a run-in with a deer. I am thankful that Christy and Connie were not hurt.
When the day started, it looked like we were going to have a lovely day. The sun was shining nicely when we were in lotu this morning. But it wasn’t long before it was gone, and the day was cloudy. It did warm up later in the morning, and Daddy let the fire out. But this afternoon, the rains came, and Daddy got the fire going again after nap.
Amos did a good job in teaching this morning. There were a lot of prayer requests. Satan does not easily give up ground. We are so thankful to be on the victory side.
It was almost 9:00 before we started school so did not have extra time this morning to work on phonics. It looks like we may be able to finish this unit of phonics by the end of next week, however, so we will be able to concentrate on practicing for the drama. We did finish classes by 12:00 today so took about a half hour to work with the kids on singing John 3:16. It seems like they are getting their parts okay. We should have time to practice more in the morning after they have their Bible test.
I had most of the math books and all the math worksheets still left to be graded this afternoon. After recording all of today’s grades, I got things together for school tomorrow and then put the new lessons in the students’ Bible folders. I had written a note to send to Kelly or Janeth with one of the students to get our other piece of chicken out of the haus sik freezer, but forgot to send it. (They run that freezer more than we run ours so they said we could keep our meat down there.) So instead of chicken ’n’ rice for supper, I had Daddy cut up a little pumpkin, and I made pumpkin soup for supper. It was a good evening for soup.

October 17. A cold morning, but the Lord gave us sunshine a good part of the day and some rain this evening.
After breakfast and quiet time this morning, I practiced keyboard a while and then threw together the dry ingredients for biscuits so it wouldn’t take too long to get them ready for my lunch later. Steve came early for school so I sent him down to Kelly’s house to get the piece of chicken to cook for our supper this evening. None of the others were even here on time. We didn’t start school until almost ten past eight. I let them have ten minutes to study for their Bible test and then they had the test. All of them did very well. Nobobdy missed more than one. After that, we practiced singing John 3:16 until the end of class.
After math class, we went through the drama, seeing how it should be acted out, singing the songs, and having each one read his part. It took about an hour and a half to get through it, but I think it should only take about half that long once we get the kinks worked out. Consequently, it was close to 1:00 before I started getting lunch, but it didn’t take long to finish getting the biscuits ready and on the griddle to cook. While they were cooking, I warmed up the rest of the pumpkin soup.
We had our lunch around 1:15, cleaned up the kitchen, and then went for nap somewhere close to 2:00. I was quite tired, and it was after 3:00 before I woke up. Did the rest of the grading and the recording of grades, got things together for school tomorrow, put a pot of rice on to cook for supper, and chicken on to cook so I could make chicken gravy. After supper, I got the kitchen all cleaned up, put the plug and soap in the sink, and was all ready to wash dishes before I realized that we hadn’t even put the dish water on to heat. Oops! Had to wait about fifteen minutes for the water to get hot before I could do the dishes.
