May 8.  Slept good the first two or three hours last night, but after that it was toss and turn until about 6:00 this morning.

The power was off and on, off and on most of the day today.  We are thankful that it has been on so far this evening.

It has been a hot day today.  Went out around 8:00 this morning and went shopping uptown — Papindo, Bintangor, SVS, and Istana.  By the time we were done at Istana, my back was hurting quite a bit so we came back to the house.  I felt rather wiped out so lay down for a nap.  Then I got up and fixed lunch.  After lunch, we went out to do more shopping — Papindo West, New Century, and then uptown to the pharmacy, Wei Da, Green Fern, J & P, and Seng Da.  Got back to the house around 4:00.  Relaxed for a while and went through the gift box from Valley Baptist.  Then prepared and cooked veggies for supper — carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, and onions.  We warmed up leftover rice and chicken to have with that.

After supper, I relaxed a while again, went through boxes that Christy and Connie sent, and then did dishes.

“23And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  24Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.”  I Thessalonians 5:23,24

May 7.  It has been a long and trying day.  The Lord sent us lots of rain last night and lots of fog this morning.  It was foggy everywhere, I guess, and Brent got a late start in flying.  I was thankful I had made a tuna sandwich to eat, and I ate that around 11:00.  About 11 people worked on the airstrip again this morning and we were very grateful for those who came and helped.

After getting all the last minute packing done, I worked on the progress report for April.  Then we heard the plane coming from Aziana direction and thought he was coming for us so hurried to get the computer packed and close up the house.  But it was a false alarm.  He went on to Aiyura.  But we already got things packed up and sent up to the airstrip in a hurry so I couldn’t go back to the progress report.  Decided I would play the keyboard and write some choruses while we were waiting for the plane to come back.  Hadn’t played the keyboard in a looooong time — just too busy.

We waited about an hour but never heard the plane fly back over us.  Pretty soon we heard it coming again from Aziana direction.  This time it did come to Owena.  He had already landed before we left the house, but at least it only takes a few minutes now to get up to the landing area.  Daddy went on ahead so he could talk to Brent.  Matthew also came out on the flight with us.

It was somewhere around 1:00 before we got to town and 1:30 before we got to CRMF.  We unpacked a few things while we were waiting for a car.  I was too tired to go out shopping so Daddy went out, and I lay down for a nap.  Didn’t sleep much though as there was smoke coming through the window from trash burning next door.  Got up and worked on the progress report.

There was only one package for us downstairs in the office and one letter.  I was really disappointed.  The package was from Valley Baptist Church.  Praise the Lord, Daddy was able to pick up two packages and some letters at the post office.  One package was mailed January 23 to our old box number.  I was SOOOOO thankful to see Olive Leaf Extract and Cranberry Extract.  Those are two things I really really need.  There was also some cranberry tea in the package from Valley.

Fog and Rain 05/08/2012

May 5.  When I got up during the night, I looked out and saw that the world was enveloped in fog.  It was still very foggy when we got up this morning.  Later the day turned out to be very warm and sunny.

Mike did a good job in lotu this morning, teaching a short lesson on two roads, from Matthew 7:13,14.  We had a couple Aziana visitors — Ikwenayo and Usayo.  Usayo is here with a sick wife, and Ikwenayo came over with them, but was going back today.  They both helped cut grass on the airstrip after lotu

After lotu, there was laundry to do.  It felt good to get out in the sunshine and hang the clothes.  By the time lotu was over, all the fog was gone.  And when I went out to hang clothes, I looked up into the sky, and there was not a cloud in sight — just beautiful deep blue sky.  There were a few clouds on the other side of the house though, way off in the north.  By afternoon, however, a lot of clouds had built up again.  It is partly cloudy tonight, but there are some stars shining through.

It was already 10:30 by the time I got done hanging clothes.  I felt hot and tired so had an Emergen-C drink and a small bowl of cereal, and sat down to rest and pray a few minutes.  Then it was back to work.  The meeting room needed to be swept, chalkboard washed, and pulpit, cupboard, and offering box dusted.  Then the office and kitchen floors had to be swept.  Got out things to start packing for town.  Fixed up a soup dinner, using the leftover spaghetti, onions and garlic, a can of carrots, can of cheesy tomato baked beans, and can of pumpkin soup.  It actually tasted quite good.  Canned carrots are pretty much intolerable on their own.  After dinner, we went out and got the clothes before having our nap.

This afternoon, I washed my hair, did some more packing, stapled the doctrinal booklets I had printed out the other day, and put pictures in the computer.  There weren’t very many dishes this evening which was a blessing after two nights with lots of dishes to do.  When the dishes were done, I used the dishwater to clean the kitchen floor.

“16Rejoice evermore.  17Pray without ceasing.  18In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”  I Thessalonians 5:16-18

May 6.  Partly sunny this morning, but the clouds built up quickly.  Late this afternoon, we had a storm with east and south winds again.  So it was another day for mopping up water.

The morning was busy making pancakes, and then making more pancakes — wheat pancakes for Daddy and rice-wheat pancakes for me.  (My corn meal is all gone so will have to have Daddy grind more corn when we get back from town.)  After breakfast and quiet time, I did some walking.  Then sewed up the curtains I washed yesterday.  The stitches had come out of three of the roses, and the stuffing came out.  So I had to fix the roses, and then part of the hem which also had come out in the wash.  Then I hung those curtains up on the closet in place of the white one which needs to be hemmed.

People came late today for lotu.  Daddy preached this morning on Romans 14:1, going back to showing the purpose of the law, as an introduction to chapter 14.

In between meetings, we had our dinner.  Then I folded the clothes that were washed yesterday.

The second meeting, Daddy covered verses 1-6, showing how Christians should receive one another.

After the second meeting, the church folks practiced some songs for outreach, and Daddy and I had a nap.

I had given the camera to Philemon so he could take some pictures at outreach.  However, the rains came and washed out the outreach ministry for this week.

This afternoon, I did some more packing.  Then turned on the computer and worked on some workpages for the next week of school until supper time.  After supper, I packed some more food items and did the dishes.  Now it is time for soul-winning class.

“21Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.  22Abstain from all appearance of evil.”  I Thessalonians 5:21,22

School Fun Day 05/08/2012

May 4.  Slept in a few minutes later this morning, and even took a longer nap this afternoon.  I was kinda worn out, I guess.

We were thankful for clouds today as a few men did come and work on cutting the grass on the airstrip, and Daddy worked a good part of the day raking.  They didn’t finish the whole airstrip as there weren’t enough people to do that, but they got the worst of it done so at least Brent should be able to come in safely.  We praise the Lord for those who came and worked.

The Lord only sent us a few sprinkles of rain today, although we could see rain in the north and west.

After breakfast and quiet time this morning, I did a little walking.  Then cut and stapled the doctrinal booklets I had printed out the other day.  Was about ready to go to school when I remembered that I might have some envelopes that their report cards would fit in.  Went and rounded up those envelopes.  Had to cut a narrow strip off each side of the report card in order for them to fit, but that was no problem.

Then it was off to school.  Today was a fun day.  First we prayed and sang a couple songs.  I gave the boys’ Owena language tests back to them.  Then we had another Bible quiz using the rest of the cards that they didn’t use yesterday.  Sosthenes won that game today.  After the Bible quiz, they had to dump and restack the colored rings on the pole.  They each took a turn, and I marked their time.  Graham won that one.

We did another timed game, fitting the shapes into the right spaces in the snail.  Can’t remember who won that one.  After that, they put together the two alphabet puzzles, two on a team, changing teams each time so they did the puzzles three times.  Then they did the alphabet, number, and shapes puzzles.  And last of all the animal puzzles.

For the next game, I laid out about 3 dozen English word flash cards.  Then they took turns finding words that I called for — what word rhymes with…? what is the opposite of…? what word means…? etc.   Amazingly Bonita did the best in that game.  The last game was to give them each a set of number cards which they had to line up in order.  All in all, everybody won at least two games.

After the games, we had refreshments — peanuts, banana muffins, and sarsi.  I took pictures of most of the games and took a couple group pictures before they went home.  Also gave them their report cards.  It was about 11:00 when they all left to go home.  Daddy was still over working at the airstrip so I worked on lesson plans for the week we come back from town.  Waited until he came back before I warmed up our spaghetti and corn for dinner.

This afternoon, I finished up lesson plans for the first week of the new term.  Then I started baking — another baking day today.  Baked for myself today — granola to take to town; whole wheat crackers with seaweed, onion, garlic, and fennel seed; and fried bread for my supper.  I don’t digest the town bread that well; and also if I have the fried bread, there will be enough town bread to last for Daddy until we go to town Monday.

I forgot to heat the dish water while we were eating supper, but that was okay because it gave me some time to sit down and relax before doing dishes.  And along with the baking dishes, and the dishes for the kids’ refreshments, and our regular dishes, there were lots of them again tonight — even more than last night.  I had to dry some of them to make room for everything.

“See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.”  I Thessalonians 5:15

April 25.  Cloudy most of the day, but very humid, which made it quite warm this afternoon.  No lotu this morning since we just finished the special meetings yesterday, so we started classes at regular time.  Had a little time before class to work on getting the GIBC history up to date.  Need to get that finished and printed by Sunday.  English class was an hour and a half today so classes went until a little after 12:00.  Had leftover spaghetti and uxai for dinner

This afternoon, I washed my hair, cleaned out the kitchen sink, sorted and washed the greens to be cooked later, and got materials ready for school tomorrow.  Did some printing and photo-copying this evening before soul-winning class.  Just a small group here this evening.

“6And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost: 7So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.  8For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.  9For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God; 10And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.”  1 Thessalonians 1:6-10

April 26.  I didn’t sleep good the first part of the night so I was sound asleep when Daddy woke me up this morning.  He startled me when he took hold of my hand and told me it was time to get up.  Got the laundry all sorted out last night so was all ready to have the generator started as soon as I got dressed.  It was a lovely morning for hanging out clothes, and I thank the Lord for the joy of being out working in the sunshine.

Was glad to have some time for prayer before school started.  It was a busy school morning with four classes, and we didn’t finish until after 12:30.

Jonaten stayed after English class and chopped firewood.  Jessica and her husband brought more firewood today, some already chopped and some not.

I am thankful that Daddy got the clothes in for me while I was still in class.  It was late when we had nap, and after 3:00 when we got up.  The Lord sent us some bits of rain this afternoon and bigger bits this evening.

What was left of the afternoon was spent partly on getting materials ready for school tomorrow and partly on fixing a meal for supper.  I figured I had better fix up the yam since it was starting to grow mold again on the cut end.  Cut the bad part off and put the rest of it in the pressure cooker with the greens.  Daddy cut up part of the pumpkin for me, and I cooked that too.

After dishes, there was printing to do, and now time to relax a little.

“1For yourselves, brethren, know our entrance in unto you, that it was not in vain: 2But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention.  3For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile: 4But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.  5For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God is witness: 6Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others….”  1 Thessalonians 2:1-6

April 27.  Slept in until about 6:15 this morning.  Didn’t need to hurry and get up to do anything, and I had been kinda tired the past couple days so was thankful for a few minutes extra sleep.  Was hoping to get a good nap this afternoon; but first, the phone rang.  Daddy had to get up and answer it.  It was Richard letting him know that the plane would be coming in about an hour and could we have a load of coffee ready.  So he had to go out and find people to get coffee ready.  The plane had come in earlier in the day and brought Janeth and Kathryn back from town.  They said the hospital staff couldn’t find anything wrong with Misek so wondered if he were just worried about his family.  The plane took out a load of Nuanda’s coffee when Janeth came in.  After Daddy went out, I started to go back to sleep, but then a south wind came up and was blowing the bedroom curtain up into the air.  I didn’t want the cold wind blowing on me as my throat was already starting to get sore again.  So got up to shut the window, and that was the end of nap time.

The Lord gave us a nice day today, but the winds were very strong and cool.

After I got up this morning and was starting to fix my breakfast, I noticed a red dot on the floor under the water filter spout.  I asked Daddy what it was — it looked like blood.  He got his flashlight and looked closely, but wasn’t sure.  Where would a spot of blood come from?  Later, I went to the other end of the cupboard and noticed something on the counter top there.  More blood.  I cleaned it up with a paper towel.  Had somebody injured a rat, and had it come in here to get away?  When I went to throw away banana skins in the garbage bucket, I saw lots of spots on the floor between the stove and the wall.  Daddy brought his flashlight and looked at it, and there was lots of blood there.  Then he looked around the house and found blood in several other places also.  After English class, I was telling the students and the papas about it.  They said that sometimes the container rats fight and then eat each other.  Neither Daddy nor I heard any noise last night, but there must have been a couple rats chasing each other around and biting at each other.  We certainly hope we don’t start smelling another dead rat in a couple days.  We hope the battle ended outside somewhere.  I guess tomorrow I’ll be scrubbing floors.

In school today, we finished the Bible lesson about God’s calling of Moses.  Monday we will review and do a color by number picture.  Then Tuesday we will have the test.  In English class, we had a spelling contest using the letter tiles.  Sosthenes and Graham tied for first place.  Then we started learning the letter “w.”  I went ahead and had four classes today since we didn’t get to have Owena class on Tuesday seeing that there was no school that day.  So it was going on 1:00 before we finished school today.  We didn’t really finish the worksheet in Owena class, but I am seeing that the boys need lots of practice in knowing how to use their Owena Scriptures and find answers.  They need lots of practice in writing their language too.  They had to find short answers to short questions today.  I gave them the verses to find the answers in, but it takes a lot of thinking for them to come up with the answer.  I didn’t make them do the paper themselves, but worked with them to try to help them understand how to do the work.

After nap today, I decided to try to catch up on e-mails.  Worked on that until supper time, besides answering the door at least half a dozen times.

“10Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe: 11As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children, 12That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.”  I Thessalonians 2:1-12

April 23.  A lovely, very warm day today after the rain yesterday.  After breakfast and quiet time, I got the theme verse put up in the meeting room.  Got e-mails ready to send to Christy and Connie.  Started sending them when Sosthenes came to read his second Owena primer so I let Daddy finish taking care of the sending.  Received a few e-mails as well.  Steve came right after Sosthenes left.  His reading was smooth; and even though he made a few mistakes, he did a much better job overall.  It was obvious that he had practiced, and I commended him for a job well done.  After that, I worked on lesson plans for a while until lotu started.

Lotu bells rang at 7:00, 8:00, and 9:00.  People came early, and we were able to get an early start.  Rebeka gave testimony of her being saved in 2003.  Today Daddy covered “Meeting Together” and “Praying Together.”  Between meetings, Erisapet and Matthew talked with Taqita, and she put her trust in Christ.  She left before the second meeting, but she will give her testimony in the morning and then be baptized with the others.  Erisapet and Rebeka had prepared some food for people to eat between meetings.  That gave me time to fix spaghetti for our dinner.  We had leftover greens to go with it.  Had an early lunch, then the second meeting, and about an hour earlier nap than yesterday.  I was thankful to have an early lunch because we had had no snack, and I was feeling hungry and getting a headache.

There will just be one meeting tomorrow morning.  Then the fellowship dinner and baptism.  The men went this afternoon to dam up the water for the baptism.

This afternoon, I spent more time on lesson plans for the rest of this week and for next week.  We just have three days this week, and next week ends the term.  Looks like we will finish our math book on Monday and probably will do extra English and Owena lessons.

“3Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ….  4That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.”  Colossians 4:3,4

April 24.  We had planned to do laundry this morning, but after I got it sorted out, there was barely enough for two loads.  So we decided to just wait a couple more days.  We are glad we did because the day was mostly cloudy, windy, and very cool.

Graham came very early this morning to read his primer.  I was eating breakfast.  I finished eating, and then listened to him read.  He is an excellent reader.  After he left, I went back for quiet time, and then did a bit of walking before busying myself at the computer with school lessons.  Just before the meeting, I got the uxai ready to cook for dinner.

People came later for the meeting this morning.  We figured that would be the case, as everyone was cooking food for the fellowship dinner.  My, you should have seen all the pots of food they brought!  While we were waiting for the men to come inside, Daddy and I had a good time joking and laughing with the ladies about all the food they had prepared, about who was going to eat it all, and about how they would all look “pregnant” by the time they finished eating.  (Don’t worry, these people have no trouble putting away potfuls of food.)

It was about 10:15 or so before we started the meeting.  It was good to see Daniel there today.  Amos had a bad cold this morning so Tomas led the singing.  Taqita gave a good testimony of salvation.  I sang “A New Name in Glory.”  Daddy preached about “the church meeting together for business.”  The meeting ended around 12:00.  Afterward we took pictures of the five baptismal candidates.  Then the people ate; and some time after 2:00, they went down for the baptism.  Daddy and I took our nap.

I had cooked the uxai and warmed up the spaghetti for our dinner, and we went to nap around 1:45.

This afternoon and evening, I cut Daddy’s hair, worked on school lessons, got supper, made lemon-orange sugar cookies, did dishes, got things reorganized in the schoolroom to make it ready for school tomorrow, did some printing, took a bath, put away the cookies, had a snack.  Now here I am, glad for the sleep time hours soon to find me in bed.

Tomas and Matyu each came by this evening for something or other, and they both said that the baptismal water was really cold so they two plus Amos all did baptizing so they could get out of the water as soon as possible.  I’m sure they were thankful for the sunshine the Lord sent for the time that they were down at the river.

The special meetings are over, but it seems to have been a good time for everyone.  They spent a lot of time together which appears to be what they really needed.  The theme Daddy chose for the meetings turned out to be a fitting theme.  It is a blessing to see a church family growing in love and learning to care for one another.

“5Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.  6Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”  Colossians 4:5,6

April 15  After breakfast and quiet time this morning, I went out for a little walk in the sunshine.  The wind was blowing and was still a bit cool so I didn’t want to stay out too long.  Came back in and walked around the meeting room for a while.  Then got to work at the computer, getting lesson material ready for printing.

The Lord gave us a beautiful morning and a good meeting.  Janeth came to church with Kathryn, and Bosip came too.  Janeth has been more faithful lately, and we wonder if she is beginning to think about some of the things that she has been hearing.  We hope so.

Daddy preached on the last few verses of Romans 13 in the two meetings today — ”Walking Like Christ.”

Didn’t have a very long nap today.  It was already late when we went to nap.  After nap, I finished up school lessons and started setting up the other ministry update file to be sent to Christy for printing.

After supper and dishes, there was lots of printing and cutting to do.  Only a handful of people came for soul-winning class so they decided to postpone it.

21And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled  22In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight.”  Colossians 1:21,22

April 16  The Lord gave us a beautiful day with lots of clear blue sky, and a starry sky again this evening like we had last night.  It is the time of year when we can see both the Southern Cross and the Big Dipper in opposite ends of the sky.

[When we had those really cold days], one thing that I noticed that there was not a single bug around during those days – no mosquitoes, no moths or other bugs flying around the lights at night, no grasshoppers or crickets, not even the cicada (or whatever the early morning bug is that comes around and screams when it is time for us to get up).  And I am surprised that we have seen hardly any flies around since we moved up here on the mountain.

Pretty much a routine day today.  Wamara and Puki came and worked together putting ooqdi trim around the bathroom.  It does look a lot nicer.

It was a busy day answering the door too.  People brought food — potatoes, popo, greens, pumpkin, cucumbers, eggs.  Silvia came to get some yarn to use for her baby bilum she is making.  Her baby is due in about two months.  Before school was over, I went out on the porch to clean the chalkboard eraser and there was Neomi’s mother.  Don’t know how long she had been there, but she waited until the kids left.  She had brought me some greens and a kaukau.  Then she wanted me to read the Scriptures to her so I took time to do that before having dinner.  With all the door answering and the men finishing up their work, we were late getting dinner.  Actually I was pretty hungry because I hadn’t had time for a mid-morning snack so I did put food on my plate and start taking bites while other things were going on.

This afternoon, I got things ready for school tomorrow, finished getting the monthly update file ready to go to Christy for printing, wrote an e-mail to Christy and Connie, made chocolate chip cookies, fixed supper, did dishes, washed greens which I will put on to cook shortly.  Now I am tired and thankful to sit down a while.  I will need to get a bath soon too before the air gets too cool.

“28Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: 29Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.”  Colossians 1:28,29

Brrrrrrr! 04/10/2012

April 3.  No rain today, but still overcast, windy, and cold.  I woke up around 3:00 in the morning; and when I went to get a drink, I felt a cold breeze blowing on me.  I looked up and saw that the back door was wide open.  Daddy had forgotten to lock it when he came in from turning off the generator last night.  BRRRRRR!

The wind came up in the schoolroom about mid-morning and was blowing on my head.  So after recess, we had the kids bring the school table into the kitchen so we could be near the fire.  That was so much better.  The air has such a chill, like winter is coming.  We’re just waiting now for the snow. :-)

Beni cut more firewood today.  We are really using up the firewood, keeping the home fires burning from early morning until bedtime.  Toni cut grass and Severah raked.  Danny brought firewood.  More Marivo people brought more firewood.

I was thankful for the Lord’s help in teaching today.  How does one teach with laryngitis?   With great difficulty, but we did manage to get through.  Lunch was late today as we had four classes.  Since the boys were in the kitchen for tokples class, though, I could start getting lunch ready while they were doing their seatwork.

It was nearly 2:00 when we went for nap, and nearly 3:00 when we got up.  So that gave me just enough time to get things ready for school tomorrow and then fix a meal.  Had greens to pick over, wash, and prepare.  Peeled and cut up carrots.  Got a pot of water on for spaghetti, and cooked meat for spaghetti sauce.  Part of the food cooked on the wood stove, and part of it on the gas stove.  Now supper is done, and dishes are done, and it is time to relax.

“For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake.”  Philippians 1:29

April 4.  Another cold night, and cold all day today, but more blue sky this afternoon than we have had for a while.  Even had my jacket off for a while this afternoon – a very short while.  And the Lord gave us a beautiful sunset this evening, the first sunset we have seen since we’ve been back from town.

The cold winds are blowing strong, coming from every direction.  People are saying that they have never seen this kind of weather before.  The morning temperatures are just like dry season temperatures; but in the dry season, the sun comes out and soon warms up the air for the day.  We have been getting almost no sun, however, and it stays cold all day long.  People are keeping their fires going all day as well as all night.  They usually let them die out during the daytime while they go off to work or do whatever they do around home.

Hardly anyone came for lotu this morning.  At first there was only Amos’s family and Graham.  After we started, Apekio came.  We had prayer time and a few more came.  Daddy didn’t do the lesson in the “Sios I Gat Glori” book today since there weren’t very many here.  He gave a little talk on some verses in I Thessalonians 5, verses 16-22.  People were getting ready to help David carry coffee over to Aivonti.  Don’t think they got started before noon or after though.

School classes met in here by the fire again today.  We started setting things up in the regular meeting room, but Sosthenes wasn’t feeling well and said he was cold.  I am thankful we moved in by the fire because it did not get any warmer as the morning went on.  It got quite a bit colder.  Sosthenes had to go out several times because he was sick to his stomach.  I was thankful my laryngitis wasn’t quite as bad today.

Had some time after classes to grade papers and start getting ready for tomorrow.  Have decided that I am going to have to add time to English class as there is a lot to do now.  We have reading two days a week, and then the workbooks, new letters, spelling, etc. on other days.  So will add 15 minutes to English class on Mondays and Fridays and a half hour on Wednesdays.

Put leftovers on the wood stove to warm up for dinner.  It was nice to get to nap earlier and have more time this afternoon to get other things done.

“9Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”  Philippians 2:9-11

April 1. Today was still quite cool and mostly cloudy.  The Lord sent us some sunshine this afternoon, but there was still a cool breeze.  No rain today though.  We kept the fire just barely going today to keep the chill off the house.  Letting the fire go out yesterday afternoon was the wrong thing to do, especially since I washed my hair.  By evening, I was all stuffed up and feeling lousy.  Went to bed a little earlier than usual, but no bath.  It was too cold.  Thought maybe I could get a bath this morning before lotu, but it was too cold most of the morning too.  I did get a nice bath this evening right after doing the dishes.  I am thankful to be feeling clean again.

By the time people were here for morning lotu, I was really worn out so went back to bed.  Daddy preached on the Lord’s supper since it is the first time for many of these people to partake of the Lord’s supper since being saved, and it would have new meaning for them.  Mike did a good job giving the offering report, Daddy said.  Amos translated for Daddy this morning.  Tomas had charge of the song and testimony time in the afternoon service following the Lord’s supper.

After the morning meeting, the three ladies who helped make the unleavened bread yesterday came and poured the grape juice and got it ready for the Lord’s supper.  Just before the second meeting started, they got things taken out to the other room and set up.  I stayed up long enough to take part in the Lord’s supper.  Then went down for another rest.

Tomas’s boy brought pretty white lilies today.  They said they never used to have them here, but now they grow in the kunai (tall grass).  They wonder if some of the birds from the lowlands have dropped seeds here.  We talked about the lilies of the field mentioned in the Bible.

Second lotu didn’t finish until around 3:00.  There were four specials and a testimony.  There was a good group here for both meetings, although not many partook of the Lord’s supper.  Out of 25 members, there were only 14 who partook.

This afternoon, after everyone left, I got the chalkboard cleaned off and wrote some math exercises on it.  Got the rest of the materials ready for school tomorrow.

People are here this evening for soul-winning class.  After they leave, I’ll get the flannelgraph board put out there and put the books back out on the shelves.

“And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel.”  Ephesians 6:19

April 2.  Another day for keeping the wood stove going.  I was thankful for the Lord’s help today to be able to teach.  I really have a whopper of a cold.  The kids, and the papas (dads) too, did very well in spelling English today.  They even spelled words that I didn’t give them to learn, although they have had words that rhyme and have heard the words read and seen them in their word lists.  So I was really pleased with their progress.

There were a few peanuts in the cupboard that needed to be shelled so Bonita stayed and did that after school.  Then we had our lunch.  I took quite a long nap.  I was really wiped out.

After nap, I got things ready for school tomorrow.  Then I made a pot pie for supper with the rest of the chicken stew.  While that was cooking, I worked on some more lesson material.

While I was doing dishes this evening, Frina came with Judy.  They waited a few minutes while I finished the dishes, and then I visited with them.

“20According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.  21For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”  Philippians 1:20,21

Fix-it-up Jobs 04/10/2012

March 29.  A coooold, very foggy, somewhat rainy day.  Daddy has kept the fire going all day.  Even with the fire, it has been cold.  We have had on long sleeves or sweater or jacket most of the day.

This morning Daniel came and tried to fix the roof where it leaks so badly into the meeting room.  It hasn’t rained hard enough yet to see if his fix-it job will work, or not.  After he left, I did a little walking, but it was too cold out in the meeting room so came in and walked around the kitchen table a while.  Got the bed made and a button sewed onto Daddy’s shirt.  Finished up lesson plans for school for next week.  Worked on some lesson material in the computer.  Started counting and re-boxing all the extra school books in a more orderly fashion.  Worked on that more this afternoon and also worked on getting everything together that I will need for Monday’s classes.

This evening, I did a bunch of printing — extra work pages for school for the week, Philemon’s letters requesting applications for colleges, a copy of the “Kisim Bek” poster for Eric.  He was sitting out there copying it all by hand.

“12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.  13Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”  Ephesians 6:12,13

March 30.  After the rainy day yesterday, there were stars in the sky last night, and the moon even peeked through from behind the clouds.  By morning, it was quite chilly.  There was fog down in the valley, but it looked like it was going to be a nice day.  It was wash day, and we got things going early so we could get done and use the rest of the day for other jobs.  It was so nice to get outside and hang the clothes.  The air felt fresh and was warming up and made the body feel cozy.  And I didn’t have to hurry to get them hung out since we won’t be starting back to school until Monday.

Beni came to cut firewood.  Toni was cutting the grass, and Severah was digging out weeds and raking.  Daniel came to work on the water pipes.  It seemed like a perfect day for working outside.  About mid-morning, however, the fog came up out of the valley and turned to rain clouds.  The air turned chilly and damp again, and soon there was rain.  I was in the middle of sorting out the rest of the school books, and Daddy was helping Daniel with the water pipes.  Daddy took time out to help me get the clothes in.  Then I had to hang them all up again inside.  I wouldn’t have minded, except that the pain in my shoulder was quite bad by the time I finished.

After that, it was back to organizing, counting, and repacking books until time to put dinner on to warm.  We had the wood stove going all day again today so was able to warm up dinner on the wood stove.  Since Daniel still had a good amount of work to do on the pipes, I fixed up a pack of Maggi noodles for him.  Didn’t have enough leftovers.  Beni was ready about then to bring the firewood in too, so I fixed a pack of Maggi for him as well, and they both sat down to eat with us.     After lunch, I worked more on the books for a while, and then went for nap a little before 2:00.  Daddy was busy helping Daniel.  Slept about a half hour.  Then got up to tend to the fire and finish up the book organizing.  I am thankful to have that done.  There are quite a few second grade reading books missing.  I was afraid I would have to order more for my students, but was thankful that there are enough so I don’t have to do that.

Worked on soul-winning lesson for a while after the book organizing job was done.  Then fixed supper and did dishes.  Took a walk around the meeting room and practiced some songs for Sunday afternoon sing time.  I had started walking and practicing this morning, but Neomi and Wamara came so Neomi could get some yarn.

“14Standtherefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16Aboveall, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.  17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”  Ephesians 6:14-17

March 31.  Today started out like yesterday, except that there was more sunshine and more blue patches of sky, and the rain didn’t come until this afternoon.

Before lotu this morning, I put chicken on the wood stove to cook for dinner.  Swept the kitchen floor.  There was just a small group here for lotu this morning.  Matyu took charge of lotu and gave a short talk on Romans 8:26,27 before prayer time.  After lotu, Apekio, Mata and Erisapet helped make unleavened bread.

After they left, I got the trash together to burn and later went out and burned it.  Cut up some dates and cooked them up to put in muffins later.  Got the chicken picked off the bones, and prepared potatoes, carrots, broccoli, onions, and mushrooms to go with the chicken.  Put everything back in the pressure cooker to cook for dinner.  Finished up the soul-winning lesson I was working on.  Made a gravy to go with dinner.

It was a blessing to have the water back on this afternoon.  And now there is a water tap outside since Daniel got that all set up yesterday so people can get water out there.  Washed my hair.  Made some date muffins.  Got toksaves written up for tomorrow.  Worked on getting the new soul-winning lesson set up in the student lessons.  Fixed supper.

“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.”  Ephesians 6:18
