November 20.

Just a few sprinkles this afternoon, but mostly a dry day.  Praise the Lord for good weather for ladies’ meeting this evening.

Everyone was here for translation last night except Matyu who is still laid up with his bad foot, and Daniel who is in town.  Matyu’s group finished checking Romans 15.  One more chapter to go.  Daniel’s group worked with Erik on translating Matthew.

This morning Daddy and I finished studying III John.

After Daddy left for Bible school, I had prayer time and went over tonight’s ladies’ meeting lesson.  Then it was time for Serah and Jokapet to come.  Serah had a busy morning and was working up until noon.  Jokapet learned how to use bold type, use the tab, and draw lines.  I worked on a song for tonight to strengthen some of the teaching they are getting — ”Bilip Tasol,” based on the chorus of “Only Believe.”  Also worked on Bible study outlines, and made sure things are ready for printing tomorrow.

When I played the keyboard this afternoon, Daddy and I sang the chorus to “It Will Be Worth It All.”  It is such a joy and comfort to think of the words to that hymn.

November 21.

Steady rain most of the night.  Roof is leaking quite badly now in the laundry room.  Wan has patched and patched and patched, but still can’t seem to get to the source of that particular leak.  Rainy most of the day today too.  Serah hung out the clothes, but we ended up bringing them back inside and hanging them around the house.  Kept the fire going most of the day.

We figure it rained steadily until wee hours of the morning.  It was still raining at 2:45 when I got up.  There was 1.8” in the rain gauge this morning.

After the ladies left, we got a shopping list made.  Played some dominoes, and relaxed a bit before going to bed.

Daddy had charge of lotu this morning, as Nuanda didn’t come back yesterday like he originally planned.  Devit took care of the song time and prayer time.

Epekio came by afterward with Ema and Vitoria.  I gave Ema one of the little dresses that had come in the box with the computers.  Wasn’t able to spend time with Epekio as there was lots of printing to do.

I worked on a pig puzzle for the children’s newsletter and have that all ready to scan in next time the generator is on.  Daddy worked on the little bathroom cupboard, and I helped him with that when he needed me to.  He finished that up today and got it sanded.  Will have to get it painted this coming week.

Made some popo crisp this afternoon, cleaned the bathroom, and played the keyboard a while.  The old hymns are a wonderful source of encouragement and strength.  Thank the Lord for these songs of faith and doctrine.

“That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death.”  Philippians 3:10   Why should souls who are quickened with Jesus, wear the grave-clothes of worldliness and unbelief? Rise, for the Lord is risen. —Morning and Evening

"O Lord, Thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul." Lamentations 3:58

November 17.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOM!

Rained most of the night, as far as we know.  We just weren’t awake all night.  A little over 1 inch rain.  A few short periods of sunshine today, but mostly cloudy.  Periods of rain.  Raining this evening.

Only four of Daniel’s group and five of Matyu’s came last night for translation.  Matyu is still unable to be here because of his foot injury.  Tomas took charge of his group again.  They checked Romans 15:1-14.  Daniel’s group worked on translating Acts 13.  Erik worked with Daniel, Nuxawai, and Wan, as Devit didn’t come.  We wondered why Devit wasn’t here, as he is usually very faithful.  Found out this morning that there was a group of Okapa people staying at his house, and he was preaching to them.  This morning, he came and got some tracts and took them up to the airstrip to give out to people waiting for the airplane.

NTM came in today and brought Sipora and Auri and Dr. Matyu.  MAF came in three times to take out coffee and people.

Daddy and I finished checking Mark 10 today, and checked through verse 26 of chapter 11.  Thank the Lord for His help.

I worked on putting some corrections in the computer.  Also worked on the quarterly newsletter.  Nuxawai came this morning and put his testimony on tape, and that is part of this quarter’s newsletter.

Played the keyboard a while after supper.

November 18.

A very quiet day.  Just about everyone is gone from this part of the village, probably most of them to Ahninyauntapeq for the basketball tournaments.

Last evening, Serah and Epekio came for their second crochet lesson.  They learned how to single crochet, and each made a little “rat” blanket with their little ball of scrap yarn.  Epekio called it a rat blank because it was so small.  I gave them each another scrap to take home and practice until next week.

We had .4” rain yesterday evening.  Rained during the afternoon, and is raining again this evening.

Daddy and I started studying III John together this morning.  Was encouraged by Gaius’s testimony as a man who not only knew, but walked in, the truth.

Serah came at 7:30 to do laundry.  She hurried through dishes too, while the clothes were washing.  Wanted to go play basketball today so got her work done quickly.  One thing I am thankful for, she is not in such a hurry that she wants to go play before having Bible study.  She wanted to have Bible study before she left.  Today we talked about Christ’s appearance to His disciples, the Great Commission, and His ascension, and the promise of His return.

I printed another couple hundred pages this morning of lesson material and translation material.  Last time, when the warning said that we could print nine more pages, I shook up the ink like Bro. Ogle said to do.  Don’t know how many pages I printed last time, but it was more than nine.  It looks like the laser jet is going to serve us well.  Praise God for that.

At 9:00 we went to lotu.

After lotu, I punched holes in the papers I had printed.  After Bible study with Serah, I worked on notes for youth leaders’ meeting on Sunday, and also future youth lessons.  Made fish patties for lunch.

Wan, Gibson, Poqo, and Ari worked more on the house addition late morning and early afternoon, until the rains came.

After nap, I worked more on youth lessons and ladies’ meeting lessons.  Then Daddy and I had snack, and went for a short walk.  I took the camera to try to find a pig so I could take a picture.  We didn’t see any people or any animals, except for Nuanda’s black dog, hunting for munas (a type of insect).  We haven’t seen any pigs around since the night we had to wake up someone to help get the pig out of the yard.  But then this evening, after supper, we heard little piggy sounds outside.  There were the two little pigs, going around the fence, looking for a way in.  Thankfully we had blocked up some holes this afternoon.

After our walk, Daddy and I worked on checking more of Mark.  The Lord enabled us to complete through chapter 12 verse 12.  Then I played the keyboard a little while, while Daddy shaved and washed up.  After that, he played his songs on the keyboard, while I fixed supper.  Then I played more keyboard and then washed up.

November 19.

.7” rain last night.

Studied more of III John together this morning before Daddy went to Bible school.  Later in the morning, we went through I John and picked out all the verses that show how to recognize a believer, and especially one who is standing strong in the Lord.

Jokapet finished the last computer lesson today.  Will start teaching her tomorrow how to do some other things, and let her start putting some of our stuff into files soon.

Serah was busier today than she has been.  We didn’t have time for Bible study, but I need to decide what to start teaching her next.  We finished the Firm Foundation lessons.  Probably will start going through Acts with her.

The four men did more work on the foundation for the house addition today.

Daddy and I checked through Mark 12:31 this afternoon.  Then I made peanut butter cookies, granola, and supper.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.  Romans 10:9,10

November 14.

No ladies’ meeting last evening, but Tomas and Repeka came down, and we checked through the Owena translation of the Bridge of God tract which Tomas had translated.  That didn’t take too long, and it was nice to have them come visit for a while.

.9” rain in the rain gauge this morning.  We were thankful it turned out to be a nice sunny morning, as today was wash day.

Tried again today to install the printer in the other computer, but it will not install.  So used the flash drive and printed out Rom 15 for checking next when the translation checkers come.  Printed out II Timothy and Titus for Matyu to work on while he is laid up with his injured foot.  He is nearly done with I Timothy.  Made the corrections for the tract that we checked last night.  Other than that, I didn’t do any work on the computer today.  Needed a break after all the computer work I have done all week.

When Daddy went out to turn off the generator, he didn’t come back for a long time.  So I crocheted until he got back.  Then asked him if we could work on a project together today.  He was agreeable to that, so we got the other piece of plywood cut (we were short on plywood when we made the closet and shelves in Connie’s room) and put up by Connie’s closet.  Then we worked some on the little bathroom cupboard.

Pilemon and a couple other guys cut firewood all morning.  Later in the morning, Devit came and finished putting Matyu 4 in the computer.  And when Wan came by, Daddy sent him up onto the roof.  When Serah was working this morning, water started dripping into the kitchen in front of the wood stove.  It apparently had run down from the living room where it had come in yesterday.  So Wan had some more hydrosealing to do.

We had a late lunch as Daddy was working with Wan, and then a late nap as we waited for everyone (Pilemon, Devit, and Wan) to finish their jobs.  Must have slept more than I thought, as it was a little after three when I woke up, and even later when Daddy got up.  Did a bit of crocheting this afternoon and played keyboard.  Then cleaned the bathroom and got supper.

Gave picture Bible verse cards today to Neomi’s mother and Tuanke’s wife when they brought food.  All the cards have the same verse on them — Romans 10:9.  I read the verse to Tuanke’s wife.  Then when I gave one to Neomi’s mother, she wanted me to read the verse to her.  I was delighted to hear Tuanke’s wife mouthing each word after me as I read it to Neomi’s mother.  How I pray for people like Tuanke’s wife to be saved.  Later I gave one to Roda when she came by with Lotus.  She brought peanuts, but we didn’t need them.  But I wanted to give her some more Scripture.  She said that Karumpi can read the tokples.  I read the Pidgin to Roda, although she is able to read herself.

November 15.

Big rain during the night — total 1”.  I got up around 11:00 to check for leaks.  We thought maybe they were all taken care of after Wan’s big patch-up job yesterday.  But not so.  The rain was dripping into the washing machine.  I put a rag inside to sop up what had started dripping in, then closed the lid and put a towel and bucket on top.  There were two or three inches of water in the bucket this morning.  Walked around the house, but couldn’t see or hear other leaks anywhere.  But by morning, there was definite evidence that there were leaks.  Either I couldn’t hear them, and couldn’t see them with the flashlight, or they didn’t start until after I got back in bed.  It started raining a lot harder after I got back in bed.  Took me a while to get back to sleep.  Mostly cloudy all day today with some bits of sunshine.  It was raining when we went out to call the girls (Christy and Connie) at 9:00.  We were glad for some time to talk with them — about a half hour.

Daddy and I studied more of II John this morning, verses 3-6.  It was a blessing to contemplate on those verses.

By the time we finished dinner, it was already time for second lotu.  I went up, but had to come back because of tummy rumblings.  Lay down on the bed and fell asleep.  Was really tired, I guess.  Daddy came in not too much later.  I went back to sleep after he lay down for nap.  Slept until around 3:15.  Then I cut Daddy’s hair.  Worked on putting some songs in the song file.  Got supper — bread is all gone, but had some potato left from dinner.  Mixed some onions and tuna with that, and also made some banana lemon pudding.

November 16.

No rain last night.  We were thankful for that as we were waiting for Wan to be able to do more patching up on the roof today.  It has been a dry day so far.

This morning, Daddy and I checked more of Mark 10.  There were some interruptions, and then Daddy had to go to the radio by 9:00 to make bookings for our next trip to town (two weeks from today).  So we only got nine verses done.  We didn’t work on it this afternoon as Daddy was outside working with the men on the house.  Poqo, and Ari are helping Wan and Gibson.  They worked until they ran out of long poles.  Need a few more long poles to put across the foundation posts.  Then they’ll be ready to start building on the foundation.

Today I worked on getting songs into the song book file.  Need 13 more songs and will have 100 songs for a song book.  Have a couple more started somewhere that I need to find and get typed in.  Then I’ll have to translate a few more.

Jokapet came this morning, and I gave her the job of typing Nandana’s letter.  It was her first work project.

Serah’s work didn’t take long so we had a good amount of time for Bible study.  We talked more about Christ’s death — His sinlessness, the importance of the shed blood, His Father’s forsaking of Him during the three hours of darkness, the finished work for our salvation, the veil of the temple being torn in two.

After Serah left, I started rice for dinner, and got the bread made up.

Wanted to go for a walk this afternoon, but Daddy’s legs were hurting after working outside with the men for a long time.  So I took the shovel and went outside around the yard and garden.  Pulled out some of the marigolds and other flowers that multiply too much.  Cut down one of the popo trees in the garden that was growing to close to another.  Picked a tomato.  Looked at the pineapples.  Some of the plants are getting pretty big, but not growing pineapples yet.  Played keyboard for a while when I came back in.  Then got supper.  Played keyboard some more after supper until it got dark.  Then washed up.

Daddy turned on the generator a few minutes so I could print out Nandana’s letter.  Now some of the men are here for translation time.

November 12.

Was very, very sleepy last night.  Went to bed around 8:30, after we worked on Mark.  Daddy went to bed around 9:30.  I was very warm all night.  Wonder if I wouldn’t have a fever too if I weren’t on a parasite treatment.  Have been quite warm for a week or more now.  Have really longed for something cold to drink, fridge cold, that is.

Daddy’s fever was down a bit this morning, but went up during the daytime.  He felt weak and wasn’t sure if he would be able to handle Bible school, but the Lord helped him through the morning.

Before he left for Bible school, we finished studying John 5 together.  Much meat to chew on in there.  After he left, I had more prayer time, and worked on lesson preparation for ladies’ meeting tomorrow night.

When Serah came to work, Jokapet came for computer lesson.  While she was computering, I found pictures and pasted them on the verse cards I had printed out last week some time.  After she left, I started working on ladies’ meeting notes for later, but it wasn’t long before Serah was done with work so I took time to do Bible study with her.  Today we talked about the suffering of Christ in Gethsamane, His arrest, and the beginning of His trial.

After Serah left, I started dinner.  Then Neomi’s mother came by with a letter for Christy she had had someone write for her.  Read to her from John before she left.  Wan and Gibson came later this morning too and worked more on the foundation stones.  They worked again this afternoon.  Got all the stones laid, and three posts cut.  At one point, they left to get some stakes.

I worked more on ladies’ meeting notes this afternoon.  Then worked on some of the verses to go with the counseling notes that Bro. Ogle left us.  Am getting all the Old Testament verses together to print out.  Some of them will have to be translated.  Then we’ll have to print them out and proofread them.

Felt like I was having a kidney infection today.  Back was hurting quite a bit and legs were weak.  Still feeling quite hot all day, but don’t register any fever.  Daddy was still running fever most of the day today.  But still nothing much else for symptoms.

Jevin said that Judy is doing better today.  Her fever is down and the diarrhea has stopped.  Praise the Lord for answering prayer.

November 13.

It’s Friday the 13th, 6:30 p.m.  It is supposed to be ladies’ meeting night, but it has been raining since about 4:00 this afternoon.  Rained really hard with strong winds.  The temperature dropped considerably, and it felt icy cold in the office.  Rains came into the living room and into the laundry room.

Last evening, Matyu’s group finished checking Romans 14.  Matyu wasn’t here — he had cut his foot very badly on wild bamboo.  Had to have quite a few stitches.  Tomas took charge of the group.  They finished about 8:30, and went home early.  Daniel’s group finished checking the last three verses of Acts 12.  Then Erik’s group finished translating Matyu 4, and Daniel’s group worked on Acts 13.  Everyone left sort of early, and we went to bed early again, around 9:30.

It was raining when we went to bed, but that is nothing unusual.  About 11:00, however, I was awakened by a light shining on the ceiling of our bedroom.  I couldn’t figure out why Daddy had his flashlight on and was shining it at the ceiling.  As soon as I got awake enough, it didn’t take me long to figure out why.  We were swimming in our bed.  It apparently had rained quite hard, and there was a hole in the roof right above the middle of the bed.  The roofing nail had loosened up enough to let in a good amount of rain.  All the blankets and sheets were quite wet.  And it was still raining.  We took off all the bedding and hung it on the ropes in the bathroom and laundry room.  Thankfully the mattresses weren’t wet.  Got a plastic  bag and some old towels and a bucket to put on the bed under the leak.  Then went and made up the bed in Connie’s room.  I hadn’t made it back up since Bro. Ogle was here.  It was about 11:30 before we got back into bed.  It was hard to sleep comfortably in a strange bed.  Wan’s first job today was to pound down roofing nails and put hydroseal around them.  There was 1.2” rain in the rain gauge this morning.

Daddy and I started studying II John this morning.  Then Daddy went off to Bible school.  He is feeling better today.

After my prayer time and lesson study time, Serah came to work, but Jokapet did not come.  I figured she must have gone off to the garden somewhere.  She came by later, and said that is where she was.  There wasn’t much work for Serah today, and she was done in an hour.  We had Bible study, covering Jesus’ trial under Pilate, and His crucifixion.  Next time, we’ll talk more about the crucifixion and things related to Christ’s death.

This morning, I finished up the list of verses that we need for the counseling notes — some already translated and some needing to be.  Then worked on meri bung notes, and later worked on youth meeting notes.

Wan and Gibson worked more today on the foundation poles.  Have just a few left to do.  Will probably do that next week.  They got paid today.

“Dost thou hope for reward without labour, or honour without toil? Dismiss the idle expectation, and be content to take the ill-favoured things for the sake of the sweet love of Jesus, which will recompense thee for all. In such a spirit, labouring and suffering, thou wilt find bitters grow sweet, and hard things easy. Like Jacob, thy years of service will seem unto thee but a few days for the love thou hast to Jesus; and when the dear hour of the wedding feast shall come, all thy toils shall be as though they had never been — an hour with Jesus will make up for ages of pain and labour.”—Morning and Evening

November 10.

Devit and Erik and the rest of Daniel’s group worked on translating Matyu.  Matyu’s group worked on correcting Romans 14.  Finished about 2/3 of the chapter, so will have to get chapter 15 printed for next time.  Daddy worked with Matyu’s group, and I worked on the kidznewzletter.  Was thankful to get most of that finished.

This morning Daddy and I did our Bible study on John 5, verses 36-41.  A lot of meat there to chew on.  Christ said to His disciples later, “As the Father hath sent me, even so send I you.”  We see here in John 5 that the Father sent the Son not only to do His work, but to finish the work that He sent Him to do.  Christ has sent us to do a work, and we need to finish the work that He has sent us to do.

Serah came at 8:00 this morning to do dishes and prepare food.  A little before 9:00, we went on to youth group.   Today was game day.  Today they had them play basketball, five at a time from each of two teams for five minutes, then switch with other team members.  Girls first, then boys.  At the end, they tallied all the points, and the team with the most points won.  Team 4 won today.  After the game time, they went back up to the church building for their team get-together.

I came back to the house before games.  Have so much to do here.  It was 12:00 or so before Daddy got back.  I worked most of the day today on proofreading the work that Devit had put into files.

That went much better, and there don’t seem to be as many corrections since giving Devit the use of the “new” computer.  The cursor doesn’t jump around in there, and his typing is much more accurate.  I was hoping that would be the case, and was thankful to see that it was.

We are going to need lots of patience and wisdom and encouragement in working with these people.  And we could certainly use some partners too.  There is far more to do than we can do ourselves.
  Is God calling YOU?

Daddy and I worked on correcting some verses in James chapter 2 this afternoon also.  I need to print those out tomorrow to use in ladies’ meeting on Friday evening.

November 11.

Rain during the night, but another very warm day today.  Or maybe we just think it’s warm.  Daddy was more sleepy today than usual.  This afternoon, he was running a fever.  Doesn’t have any other symptoms, though, to know what is causing the fever.

Serah came at 7:30 to do laundry.  There wasn’t too much printing to do.  Tried to install the printer into one of the Dell computers, the one we are using for translation, so I could print out the next chapter of Romans, chapter 15.  After several frustrating attempts, I finally gave up.  Then tried to put the Romans 15 print file on CD to put into the Acer and print from there, but the Dell would not let me write on any old CD’s if there was something already on them, and it would not acknowledge any new CD’s that I put into it.  Finally remembered the flash drive and tried it.  That worked, but printing time was over by then.  So Romans 15 didn’t get printed.  Oh, well.

After Serah got the laundry done, it was time to go to lotu.

Wan came and put up some more rope for laying out the foundation stones for the house addition.

Jevin came this evening to ask us to pray for baby Judy.  She has had diarrhea since Monday.  The doctors have tried a couple kinds of medicine already, and gave her a third kind today.  Daddy prayed with Jevin before he left.  After I worked on the computer a while, Daddy and I checked more of Mark chapter 10.

November 8.

So thankful for the encouragement from God’s Word today.  Daddy and I studied John 5:24-29 together this morning.  Reminded us again that faith comes by hearing.  Those who hear the word and believe will receive everlasting life, new life spiritually.  Then those who believe, when they hear the voice of the Son of God when he calls them out of the grave, will be physically resurrected unto everlasting life.  It was a blessing to meditate on those thoughts.

After breakfast this morning, I had to write out notes for youth leaders’ meeting as I had forgotten to print them out yesterday.  So only had a little bit of time to play keyboard before lotu.  Daddy preached the first meeting today.  The church building was full and then some.  The little children had to be sent up onto the platform.  Marivo people were here since they do not have a church building now.  They said that their church building was reduced to powder by the fire.  There is absolutely nothing left.

The Lord really helped Daddy with the message this morning.  He preached from 1 John 5:6-10, the witnesses to the work of the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour.  It ws a powerful message.

The winds came up early this morning, even before we went to lotu — powerful winds.  Lots of debris was blown around.  The church building shook; sheets of roofing iron rattled.  Debris fell on the roof with a clang.  It was hard to hear the preaching, especially during second lotu.  When we came back to the house, Connie’s room and the bathroom were both covered with ashes.  The bathroom looked like it had never been cleaned yesterday.

This afternoon the youth pastor, leaders and wives, team captains, and watch captains met here at the house.  We went over with the captains their responsibilities to their teams.  After the captains and watch captains left, we went over some things with the team leaders and game leader.

November 9.

Listened to one of Evangelist Schwanke’s sermons last night—”What Will It Take?”  A very good message on pride.

Another snake bite victim came early this morning.  Another woman from Marivo.  She apparently hadn’t gotten as much poison into her system, as she recovered okay.  Praise the Lord for that.  The lady who was sent to town is doing okay now, they say.

Checked over Mark 10:1-17 today.  Thank the Lord for His help.

Just when Serah came, Daddy spilled hot coffee on himself.  Thankfully he did not get burned, but had to change his trousers.  Then we got the heavy suitcase down for him to find more work trousers, and it broke the nail off the curtain hardware on the closet.  Put some of his clothes in the new tote to lighten the suitcase so it wasn’t so heavy to put back up.  Serah and I worked on wiping the coffee up off the kitchen floor.  Daddy fixed the nail when he was done going through the suitcase.

Serah had a slow workday today so there was time for Bible study.  Neomi’s mother came by about then so read to her first, from John 18.  Then Neomi came by too so she sat in on the Bible study.  It was a good study on blind Bartimaeas, with application to spiritual blindness, and sight being restored by faith in Christ.

Worked on getting things ready for youth bung tomorrow.  Finished up the notes on counseling that Bro. Ogle left us.  Some verses need to be translated yet.  Will print things out and let Daddy translate the verses that need to be done.

Later in the afternoon, we went up and measured the church building so we would know how much space to put in between teams when they are seated.  When we came back, I made chocolate cookies (the end of the cocoa, unless we go to SIL again sometime) and then got supper.

Youth playing volleyball
November 4.

The Lord gave us a lovely morning for drying clothes.  Had a little rain this afternoon, and it is raining again this evening.  I was hoping we could go for a walk this afternoon, but the rains prevented that.  So I walked around the house for about 10 minutes — really need some exercise.

Serah came at 7:30 to do laundry since Nuanda moved lotu back to morning.  Said that she had malaria last night, and that’s why she didn’t come.

This morning, I printed memory verses, youth lesson sheets, and Romans 14 for proofreading.  Worked on meri bung {ladies meeting} lessons today.  Was going to play keyboard this afternoon before supper while it was still light enough to see, but Erisa came by with some cabbage.  Took some time to talk with her a bit, as I don’t see her too often.  Said that she is a couple months pregnant, expecting their sixth child.

Nuanda said the plane is supposed to come in on Friday for coffee from Waisara and Tainarava.  So Daddy called Tai Yari to see about getting our cargo (computers) down to the hangar so it can come in on one of the shuttles.

Played keyboard a while after supper, until it got too dark.  Then washed up.  And then put away the corn that had been out in the sun drying.

November 5.

            Another very warm day.

MAF brought the computers from SIL that Bro. Rice and Bro. Vesey had sent to us.  Daddy gave MAF a check to take to SIL for the handling and customs charges.  There were a few jackets and girls’ dresses in with the computers.  The batteries are low on both computers so will need to be charged Saturday morning when the power is on.

Susen came today and finished weeding the garden.  Brought up some pineapple shoots to plant around the fence inside the yard.  The pineapples aren’t growing very well down in the garden.  Paid Susen when she was done and gave her a tract.  Magaret’s little girl Jayda was with her so I gave Jayda one to give to her mother.

Enjoyed Bible study with Serah again today after she was done working.  We talked about the foolish man who thought he had all he needed and could take his ease and live well.  However, he left God out and God took away his life.  Then we talked about the rich man and Lazaras.  Both of these showing again how hard it is for a rich person to be saved because their hearts are set on their riches.  Serah has a really tight cough and is still not feeling really well.

Worked on more visuals for ladies’ meeting while Jokapet was doing her computer lesson.  Later worked on another page of Bible memory verses for the youth.  Played keyboard for a few minutes after supper again, until it got too dark to see.  Then washed up.  Soon the men will come for translation checking.

November 6.

Matyu’s group checked all of Romans 13 last night.  Daniel’s group covered 11 verses of Acts 12.

Devit came a bit before 4:30 to work at the computer.  Nuanda also came at that time.  He said that there was a big fire in Marivo today.  A man was burning off ground to plant peanuts, and the fire spread into the village — burned down the church building, Suqu Saimon’s house and everything in it, Midyu’s house, some other houses, part of Nueri’s house.  People were upset, and the poor guy that started the fire felt really bad.  He humbled himself and apologized, and told the people they could do to him whatever they felt they should.

While Daddy and Nuanda were talking, I made granola and started supper.  After Nuanda left, I told Serah and Epekio they could wait, if they wanted, until we were done eating.  They decided to go up to Janet’s house, and then came back at 6:00.  So tonight they had their first crochet lesson.  It didn’t take them too long to catch on, and they were doing pretty well at making a chain before they left.  I let them take the hooks and practice yarn with them.  There was a lot of thunder and lightning while they were here, and it has been raining quite a bit this evening.

"And ye shall be witnesses unto Me."
Acts 1:8
In order to learn how to discharge your duty as a witness for Christ, look at His example. He is always witnessing: by the well of Samaria, or in the Temple of Jerusalem: by the lake of Gennesaret, or on the mountain's brow. He is witnessing night and day; His mighty prayers are as vocal to God as His daily services. He witnesses under all circumstances; Scribes and Pharisees cannot shut His mouth; even before Pilate He witnesses a good confession. He witnesses so clearly, and distinctly that there is no mistake in Him. Christian, make your life a clear testimony. Be you as the brook wherein you may see every stone at the bottom—not as the muddy creek, of which you only see the surface—but clear and transparent, so that your heart's love to God and man may be visible to all. You need not say, "I am true:" be true. Boast not of integrity, but be upright. So shall your testimony be such that men cannot help seeing it. Never, for fear of feeble man, restrain your witness. Your lips have been warmed with a coal from off the altar; let them speak as like heaven-touched lips should do. "In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand." Watch not the clouds, consult not the wind—in season and out of season witness for the Saviour, and if it shall come to pass that for Christ's sake and the gospel's you shall endure suffering in any shape, shrink not, but rejoice in the honour thus conferred upon you, that you are counted worthy to suffer with your Lord; and joy also in this—that your sufferings, your losses, and persecutions shall make you a platform, from which the more vigorously and with greater power you shall witness for Christ Jesus. Study your great Exemplar, and be filled with His Spirit. Remember that you need much teaching, much upholding, much grace, and much humility, if your witnessing is to be to your Master's glory.  —Morning and Evening

November 1.

The night was warm, and the Lord gave us a lovely morning too.  Nuanda came after breakfast to have Daddy pray with him.  Tema is still pretty sick.

We were glad for the blessing of being able to call Christy and Connie and talk with them a little bit before lotu this morning, but then we lost reception.

Daddy preached the second meeting today, teaching from 1 John 5:1-5 -  overcoming the world by faith.  Emos translated for him.  Daniel said that Epekio is sick with fever and body pains.  I wondered if she were sick since she didn’t come to ladies’ meeting Friday evening.  If she doesn’t come, she usually has a good reason.  She is very faithful.

After nap today, I finished Emerald Rainbow afghan.  I was happy to finally get that done.  It will go to Jonaten and Miriam for their baby, along with a little dress and hat.  Now I need to decide what color afghan to work on next.

Also had a little time to play keyboard before supper, and that was refreshing.  Daddy sang “How Great Thou Art” (one of my favorite songs) with me after supper while I was waiting for my washup water to heat.

God’s Word to my heart today was from Mark 13:37:  “Watch!”  I need to keep my focus on Christ’s coming, and be busy about His business, working and not sleeping.

And then "I am the Lord, I change not." Malachi 3:6

November 2.

Another warm night.  A little rain this afternoon.

After listening to one of Bro. Schwanke’s sermons last night, we played a game of dominoes together.  It was good to relax and do something different.

This morning after breakfast, Daddy and I worked on notes from John 5 for a while, as I will be teaching on that next in ladies’ meetings.  Then we worked on checking Mark 9.  Finished the first 10 verses.  This afternoon, we went back to chapter 3 which had gotten lost in the old computer.  Finished translating verses 13 - the end.

Serah wasn’t feeling well this morning, but she worked anyway.  There wasn’t a whole lot to do — just fold
clothes, do dishes, and sweep.  She finished in about 1 1/2 hours.  Then we did Bible study.  Spent a bit more time in Bible study this morning, as we were doing the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead, and it was fairly long.  Then we talked for a little while after that.  But I didn’t have to hurry and fix anything for lunch today, as we had leftovers.  Said she is making hats and selling them for K7.  Said that Stiven has been quite sick with boils — on the bottom of his foot, and on his leg.  He has missed a lot of classes, but his teachers come and help him with his lessons.  Erisa’s mother, with Josua’s little girl, came by with corn while Serah and I were studying Bible.  We didn’t need corn, but we let her have some cooking oil, and she will have someone bring firewood later.

Roda and Lotus came by this afternoon with some potatoes.  Roda’s sister Trisa was with her.  Trisa also is married here to someone named Kenedi.  Gave Trisa one of the Bridge of God tracts.

Worked this morning on some lessons for Sunday school.  This afternoon, I worked on questions for youth lesson 7, the big race on the first six lessons.  After supper and washup, I relaxed at the keyboard a while before finishing up lesson 7.  Now the men are here working on translation.

November 3
.

Last night, Matyu’s group finished checking Romans 12.  Daniel’s group and Erik’s group worked on translating.  At the end, we paid them for last month.

It was fairly warm again last night, and got quite warm during the daytime today.  It is sprinkling now.  The Lord helped us to check Pidgin Mark through 9:37 today, part of it in the morning and more in the afternoon.

Jokapet came and practiced computer this morning.  I worked on visuals for ladies’ meeting while she was practicing.  Serah had an easy work day again, and we had a little time for Bible study afterward.  Read the stories in Mark about the little children coming to Jesus, and about the rich man who turned away sorrowful.  Thought about how much more difficult it is for an older person to come to Christ, because they are already caught up in the things of the world.  I guess that’s why Christ told the people that they need to come to him as a little child in order to enter the kingdom of God.

Senka came early this morning with the lawn mower and mowed the rest of our lawn.  Enos came and finished cutting the firewood his family had brought.  Then Daddy paid him.  Magaret came and raked the yard and pulled out the weeds in the stone walkway.  Wan’s boys came this afternoon and got K4 each for looking after our cargo that came in ahead of us.

After our Mark checking time this afternoon, I put last night’s corrections in the computer, and the corrections from Mark as well.

Maria came today with her new baby girl, born this past Saturday.  I gave her a few things for the baby.  Maria is Soram’s wife.

God Changes a Heart

October 30.  Matyu’s group checked Romans 12:1-13 last night, and Daniel’s group checked Acts 12:1-9.  It was much warmer last night, and all fogged in when we got up this morning.  It looked like rain was on its way, and sure enough, we had a good downpour this afternoon.

Mark 11:22-26 was the portion God gave me today.  “And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.  For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.  And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”  I was so thankful for time to spend alone with the Lord this morning when Daddy went off to Bible school.

Enos came and cut firewood again.

It was a blessing to be able to have some time for Bible study with Serah this morning.  After she left, I worked on some of Daddy’s Bible school lessons in the computer.

Daddy said that Pastor Edru told him that Ivana’s husband got saved this past Sunday.  We thought, from what Wan had said, that he was already saved.  But Edru said that he was a wicked man, and had said that he wasn’t going to get saved; he was just going to live the way he wanted to, and then go to hell.  However, on Sunday, he showed up at church, but said he wasn’t going to come inside.  Stayed outside and listened.  When the meeting was over, and Pastor Edru gave the invitation, there weren’t any hands raised.  He was about to close in prayer, when he noticed a hand outside the window.  It was Ivana’s husband.  Pastor Edru closed the meeting and went out and dealt with him.  He said he hadn’t planned to get saved, but God’s Word worked in his heart and convicted him.

It was a joy to hear that the Word of God had changed his direction.  Praise God!

After lunch, I got the bread made up.  Then we had nap.  And this afternoon, Daddy and I were able to work on checking Mark.  Finished chapter 8.  Praise God for His help.  Then I worked on making corrections in Rómu and Aposóri before getting supper.  In a little while, ladies should start arriving for ladies’ meeting.

October 31.  Just a small group of ladies’ last night — probably no more than 40.  But I am thankful for those who came.  Tema was pretty sick so did not come.  I asked Yonupero’s wife if she would take the prayer time in Tema’s place, and she agreed to do that.  Her name is Marerúqa.  And Sani volunteered at the last minute to read tokples Jon so that was a blessing.  She did quite well for no practice ahead of time.  Everyone who helped did a good job.  Some of the ladies seemed to be sleepy.  I was able to hold Kristina’s baby (Daniela, I think, is her name) for a few minutes before the meeting.  She is a sweetie.  Then I got to hold our Judy a little bit after the meeting.

After my own prayer time, I worked on the lesson from John for the next ladies’ meeting so I could get that ready to print.  The lesson will be on the healing of the nobleman’s son.  It will go well with the lesson on faith that precedes it, as it is a good example of faith in practice.

Serah had a pretty busy morning, and she didn’t seem to be feeling that well.  Her cold was a bit worse today.  Besides laundry, there were lots of dishes, food to prepare, and a very dirty floor to clean (since it rained yesterday before the ladies came) and benches to wash.  Then when she was about done, Julian came with some greens so I had Serah fix those too.

Penina came this morning also and brought a bunch of flowers to plant.

Also gave her some flower seeds to plant in between the other flowers.  When she was done with planting, she weeded around the walkway and raked up around there.  That was nice.  I hadn’t even asked her to do that.  She got finished about the same time Serah did, and they both got paid.
Daddy and I studied a few more verses in 1 John 5, and are nearly done with that chapter.  (He will preach on the first five verses tomorrow.)  Next Daddy will help me in studying John 5, as I’ll be starting teaching on that next in ladies’ meetings.

The weather clouded over and cooled off a bit this afternoon.  Took a fairly long nap today.  I was thankful that the heat of the morning had passed away by the time I got up, as it can be quite hot in the bathroom when the sun is shining strong, and the bathroom needed to be cleaned.  Got the bathroom cleaned, and my hair washed.  Relaxed a few minutes, and then cooked up the other half of the popo and made cookies and supper.  Then did dishes before sitting down to relax.

“And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:  And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.  And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.”  Mark 12:29-31

October 28.  53º this morning outside.  56º in the office, and 59º in the kitchen.  Didn’t take long for the house to warm up once the sun came up though.  Serah came a little before 8:00 to do laundry.  Was glad she came early as there was an extra load of wash again today.

Lots of people around today.  Nandana’s family came with firewood.  Then Enos stayed to cut firewood.  A lot of people were hanging around the fence when Serah was hanging clothes so it took her a lot longer.  There were strong winds today, however, so it didn’t take long for the clothes to dry.

Penina was already working when we looked out around 6:30.

Enos’s sister Susan came around with Magaret.  They wanted to know if there was work.  I asked Serah if the garden needed to be weeded, and she said it did.  So they are supposed to do that tomorrow.  This afternoon, I went out for a little stretch and saw that, indeed, the garden is in dire need of weeding.  Found some tomatoes growing.  Threw a couple away, and brought an almost ripe one inside.

Also found a ripe pineapple, no bigger than an orange.

Ben came by, and we went through the list of youth with him and determined which ones were little and need to bring proof of birth.

Devit came and started a file for Timothy-Titus tokples {Owena language} translation, and got most of 1 Timothy 1 into the file.

Daddy and I both had a fairly long nap today.  I was grateful for a better night’s sleep last night too.  Have been having lots of stomach cramps.

The sunsets have been so pretty the past few nights—a soft pink glow over the whole sky.  A welcome reminder of God’s presence.  Daddy decided that our promise to claim for these days is Isaiah 26:3,4.

To those who seek Him He is kind; but to those who find Him, beyond expression is He dear!—Morning and Evening

October 29.  Colder this morning — 52º.  Brrr!  Thank the Lord for pleasant sunshine to warm the house up quickly.  Thanks to God also for encouragement from His Word last night and this morning.  From Mark 10:27 — “And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.”   And then verses 29 and 30 — “And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's, But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.”  Going on further, we find our Lord telling of His suffering for us in verses 33 and 34 — “Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles: And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.”  And Daddy has been reading of Paul and his being held unjustly in prison.  We are so thankful for God’s Word and promises.

After Daddy left for Bible school, I had my quiet time alone in prayer, and in studying for ladies’ meeting coming up tomorrow evening.  Daddy’s class had their exam in Elders-Deacons class today.

At 9:00 Susan Nandana came and worked in the garden, Serah came to work, and Jokapet came for typing class.

When Jokapet finished her lesson, Maik and Tanya came to get their team notebooks straightened out.  It took a while to get all the points transferred to the team 3 and 4 books.  Devit came too and worked more on 1 Timoti.  Finished getting chapter 1 into the file, did chapter 2, and started on chapter 3.

Made fish patties for dinner, and had leftover veggies.

Daddy and I went for a short walk.  It was very short.  We were going to try to go see Penina, and maybe have Erik explain to her what we wanted done, but no one seemed to be around down there.  Saw Tema, and she was not feeling well — toothache and hurting all over.  The health workers did not open the haus sik today, as they were having some health education classes, so she wasn’t able to get pain medicine.  We came back down to the house, and went around by the garden to look over Susen’s work.  Looks like she still has a small part to finish tomorrow.  Came up to the house and got some pain medicine for Tema.  Worked a bit on some games for youth group.  Then got supper.

"I will praise Thee, O Lord." Psalm 9:1

Praise should always follow answered prayer; as the mist of earth's gratitude rises when the sun of heaven's love warms the ground. Hath the Lord been gracious to thee, and inclined His ear to the voice of thy supplication? Then praise Him as long as thou livest. Let the ripe fruit drop upon the fertile soil from which it drew its life. Deny not a song to Him who hath answered thy prayer and given thee the desire of thy heart. To be silent over God's mercies is to incur the guilt of ingratitude; it is to act as basely as the nine lepers, who after they had been cured of their leprosy, returned not to give thanks unto the healing Lord. To forget to praise God is to refuse to benefit ourselves; for praise, like prayer, is one great means of promoting the growth of the spiritual life. It helps to remove our burdens, to excite our hope, to increase our faith. It is a healthful and invigorating exercise which quickens the pulse of the believer, and nerves him for fresh enterprises in his Master's service. To bless God for mercies received is also the way to benefit our fellow-men; "the humble shall hear thereof and be glad." Others who have been in like circumstances shall take comfort if we can say, "Oh! magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together; this poor man cried, and the Lord heard him." Weak hearts will be strengthened, and drooping saints will be revived as they listen to our "songs of deliverance." Their doubts and fears will be rebuked, as we teach and admonish one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. They too shall "sing in the ways of the Lord," when they hear us magnify His holy name. Praise is the most heavenly of Christian duties. The angels pray not, but they cease not to praise both day and night; and the redeemed, clothed in white robes, with palm-branches in their hands, are never weary of singing the new song, "Worthy is the Lamb."  —Morning and Evening
