Answers to Prayer and More Prayer Requests

Thank you to everyone who has been praying for Dad and Mom.  The biopsy report for the skin condition on Dad's legs came back in 3 weeks instead of the expected 5 weeks.  There was no cancer.  It is only a severe case of psoriasis.  Thank the Lord.  We rejoice with them in this.  Please continue to pray that they might be able to find the right remedy for relief.  And please join with us in thankfulness to the Lord for His mercy.

Please continue to pray about the water situation in Owena.  There has been enough rain to bring the water level above the pipeline at the village's source of water.  However, there is little or no water flowing through the pipes.  A number of people have tried to find the source of the problem, but no one has been able to discover what is preventing the water from flowing through the pipes.  Please pray that they will be able to get this fixed.  The Lord continues to send just enough rain to keep the 55 gallon drum and other water containers filled.  Mom is very excited as she has been able to take a bath again.  It was just sponge baths for a while as there was little water, and the bathtub had to be used to store up water in case of emergency.  So Mom is grateful for the blessing of a real bath again.

Dad and Mom are also facing some other challenges.  The part of their generator that holds the deisel fuel has a bad leak in it.  This means that they can only run the generator once a week.  That means only one day a week for laundry. :-)  This also means that they are unable to use their refrigerator at the moment.  Lord willing they will be able to get this fixed on their next trip to town, but that is still about 3 and 1/2 weeks away.  They are praying that the fuel will last until then.

Also, Dad and Mom have run out of LP gas.  The twin otter does not come their way much except during coffee season, so they can only get the small tanks of LP brought in on the smaller airplane.  However, the smaller plane is not useable right now.  Someone broke into the MAF hangar and smashed the windows on the small plane, so they have only the use of the twin otter at the moment.  Guess Dad and Mom will be cooking in and on top of the woodstove for a while.  That works OK but is slower.  So please pray for grace and encouragement for Dad and Mom.

And please pray for the work in the church there.  Progress is being made, but there are still many issues to be dealt with.  They have started over at the beginning and are attempting to lay a firm foundation upon which to build the Lord's church.  They said it is very slow right now.  But even slow is good as long as there is growth.  Thank the Lord for His mercy and patience and for His help for Dad and Mom and the people there.

God bless you all and thank you for praying,

     The Young girls.

End of School for the Term

November 16.  .4” rain last night.  Kelly went up today to look at the dam again and see if he can fix it.  Came by tonight and said that, for some reason, all the water is going under the dam and not into it.  Then he said that he and Janet would like to come by and talk some time.  We hope they do.     It was the last day of classes for this little term.  We finished about an hour early today, as there wasn’t much to do in Owena class, and I didn’t want to start something new.  After class, I did a little cleaning in the schoolroom and started getting things set up for family day tomorrow.  Then I put the uxai on to cook and warmed up the soup for dinner.

At nap time, it started raining.  I hadn’t shut the windows in the schoolroom so nap was interrupted so I could go do that.  I just lay back down when I heard water trickling into the bathtub.  It sounded like it was trickling pretty fast so I got up to check that.  But Daddy said to just leave it, and he would take care of it if it got too strong.

After nap and prayer time, we had a visitor — Epekio.  It was good to see her.  She hasn’t left her mother for a while, as her mother has been quite sick with dysentery.  She said her mother is doing a bit better and even asked for kaukau to eat last night.  But now Graham has come down sick with it.  She did express her desire to have a part with the others who want to help build the church on the solid foundation of God’s Word.  So her name is now added to the membership book.  Praise the Lord!

Well may we "delight ourselves in the Lord" who makes us to drink of the river of His pleasures. Our faith stretches her wings and mounts like an eagle into the heaven of divine love as to her proper dwelling-place. "The lines have fallen to us in pleasant places; yea, we have a goodly heritage." Let us rejoice in the Lord always; let us show to the world that we are a happy and a blessed people, and thus induce them to exclaim, "We will go with you, for we have heard that God is with you."—Morning and Evening

“1O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.  2O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy endureth for ever.  3O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for his mercy endureth for ever.  4To him who alone doeth great wonders: for his mercy endureth for ever.”  Psalm 136:1-4

November 17.  66º today.  God is good!

.4” rain last night.  Pouring outside now — just about 9:00 p.m.

Daddy thought he heard a rat jumping around out in the schoolroom before dawn this morning.  So shortly after we got up, I went out to check.  Unlocked the door and went across the room to look under the bench where we had put the glue trap.  The trap was gone.  Hmmm!  It must be around here somewhere.  Looked all around the room, and then noticed the trap right in front of the door.  The rat was gone, but the trap was a long way from where we had set it.  How he ever got it way over there, we don’t know.  Anyway, I was thankful I had put my left foot inside the doorway first when I went in, or I would have stepped right in the middle of the glue trap.

Laundry day.  Praise the Lord for sunshine this morning to help dry the clothes.  After laundry, there was time to walk and pray.  Also got ingredients together for fish patties for dinner.

Devit took charge of singing and prayer time in lotu this morning.  Luke wasn’t there.  Had gone to Aivonti yesterday to get some food for his family.  Many people are out of food.  The new gardens aren’t ready to gather from yet.    Groups have been going to the market at Aivonti to get rice and other things.

Daddy continued teaching on the family this morning.  Announced today that the Lord has raised up Ruth Opo to help start a Christian school here in Owena, and there really isn’t a need for me to teach next year.  She is getting training so she can do that.  The people, however, need to get a schoolhouse built.

After lotu, Lew talked with the men who will be taking charge of the church meetings while we are in town and gave them each a schedule.  Then we had family day at school.  All of Manila’s family were there except for Christy.  Manila recited all five of his verses that he learned this term.  Then we sang them.  After that, he read John 6:5-13 in Owena.  Then he recited a monologue in English.  And last of all, he said Genesis 1:1 in Owena and in English, and we sang those.  Gave him his progress report card to give to his dad.  Then we served refreshments and talked for a while.  We talked about what Manila would do if the people do not build a schoolhouse.  I told Nuanda I would be glad to provide the materials and help Christy know how to teach him.  Nuanda seemed content with that solution.  He would like Christy to learn how to teach anyway.  Said her baby is due in December or January.  Nuanda said too that, if Konianko’s wife doesn’t go out to town, he is planning to take Ana out to the dentist.  Traipina will go with them.

It was about 11:30 when they left.  I cleaned up the schoolroom a bit and then fixed lunch.  Daddy brought in the clothes.  After nap and prayer time, it was time to get busy packing.  Daddy folded the clothes and later started bringing water in from the drum.  He had to empty the drum so we can bring it inside while we are gone.  Otherwise it may disappear while we are in town.  While I was working on packing, Neomi’s mother came with some nice sweet bananas.  Praise the Lord!  It has been about a month since we have seen any bananas.  Paid her for the bananas.  Then read to her from John’s gospel.  Just as she left, Erisa came.

After Erisa left, I did a little more packing.  Then figured out the cost of books for Manila for grade two, and started gathering some of those books.  Still have a few more boxes to go through, as well as the drum, but will have to do that when we get back from town.

Had supper, did dishes, then a bit more packing.  Was thankful for time to relax at the keyboard before turning on the computer.

“25Thy shoes shall be iron and brass; and as thy days, so shall thy strength be.  26There is none like unto the God of Jeshurun, who rideth upon the heaven in thy help, and in his excellency on the sky.  27The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.  28Israel then shall dwell in safety alone: the fountain of Jacob shall be upon a land of corn and wine; also his heavens shall drop down dew.  29Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! and thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places.”  Deuteronomy 33:25-29

No Bath Tonight

November 13.  No rain last night.  However, the Lord sent water trickling through the water pipe all night long.  The bathtub was full by about 3:00 a.m.  Even though the Lord didn’t send us rain, he did send us water so we had enough to do laundry today.  Thank you, dear Lord.

We thank the Lord for rain this evening, and for the water barrel full and overflowing out there under the gutter.

Anyway, Daddy did the preaching in lotu this morning, and Luke took charge of the singing and prayer time.  There was a good group there, Daddy said.  After lotu this morning, Tomas and Rebeka came by.  Rebeka wanted some yarn, but we also had the opportunity to hear first hand from her that she is of one mind with Tomas in helping to build up the church on God’s Word.  Tomas said that Philemon and Phineas have gone to Aziana, but that they will probably stand with the family as well.  He will talk with them when they get back.

It was a busy day, and didn’t take long for the day to get hot.  It was so nice out when I was hanging clothes though that I hated to come back in.  But there was work to do.  I was hungry when I came back in so had a couple pieces of toast before starting on other work.  After that, I washed and cut up greens to cook for dinner.  Then peeled potatoes and prepared pumpkin for soup (Daddy cut up the pumpkin for me).  Those two jobs took a good while.  After that I sat down to work on the ministry update in the computer.  I told myself not to forget to watch the time so the soup would be ready in time for dinner.  About 11:45, Daddy asked, “What time are you supposed to start cooking the soup?”  Oops!  “About a half hour ago,” I said.  So dinner was about a half hour late.

While I was working at the computer, Daddy got more oats cut for granola so we have enough granola to take to town.  Then he went out and brought the clothes in while dinner was cooking.  I hung up all the shirts and things while he finished grinding the oats.  Dinner was finally ready, and we were good and hungry.

Gibson worked most of the morning cutting the grass.  He still has some left to cut.

Was thankful for a nice nap this afternoon.  Shortly after our Bible reading and prayer time, Nandana and Paqo and two of their sons came by for a visit.  It had been a long time since they had been around.  So we took time to sit and chat with them.  They are such a nice family.  How we wish they would get saved!

After that I cleaned the bathroom and then made granola and crackers.  After that it was time to fix supper and eat.  Then do dishes and clean up the kitchen.  Wan and Janet came by so Janet could get some yarn.  She is making another bilum for Ivana.  It was a good opportunity to ask her too if she is of one mind with her husband in serving the Lord and helping to build a strong church based on the Word of God.  She said she is.  Praise the Lord!

After they left, I finished cleaning up a few more things in the kitchen.  Then enjoyed time to relax at the keyboard before getting down to work at the computer.

No bath tonight, boo hoo!  The bathtub is full of water to use for household needs.

“23Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.  24Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.  25Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.  26My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.  27For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.  28But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.”  Psalm 73:23-28

November 14.  .3” rain last night.  Rained a little bit again this afternoon and evening.

One of today’s special blessings was calling our daughters and talking with them for a while.  They said we have an e-mail from John Gray regarding our visas so that is an answer to prayer.

Daddy once again presented the challenge to the people to consider what God would have them do as far as helping to build a strong church upon God’s Word.  Then he continued teaching on Baptist history, particularly the Roman era and the persecution of believers who stood firm upon the word.  We were thankful for several men who responded to the invitation to ask the Lord to help them stand strong for the Lord.  Men are needed to be the backbone of the church.

Thankful for a good Sunday afternoon nap.  After nap and snack, I cut Daddy’s hair.  Worked on computer backups.  Then after supper and dishes, I played the keyboard a while before doing photo copying, printing, and other preparations for school tomorrow and Tuesday.

Dost thou hope for reward without labour, or honour without toil? Dismiss the idle expectation, and be content to take the ill-favoured things for the sake of the sweet love of Jesus, which will recompense thee for all. In such a spirit, labouring and suffering, thou wilt find bitters grow sweet, and hard things easy. Like Jacob, thy years of service will seem unto thee but a few days for the love thou hast to Jesus; and when the dear hour of the wedding feast shall come, all thy toils shall be as though they had never been—an hour with Jesus will make up for ages of pain and labour.—Morning and Evening

“O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.”  Psalm 104:24

November 15.  .3” rain again last night.  Praise the Lord for keeping us supplied with water.  More rain this evening.  It is cold too.

Started making sugar cookies before supper, but a young Aziana man came to the door.  He had heard that we had mobiles (cell phones) to sell.  No, sorry, we don’t sell mobiles.  He had brought his mother over here for health care and was staying with Nuanda.  He seemed to want to talk, so talked with him a while at the door.  Daddy was shaving and washing.  Then George came by to get some batteries, and Topias came to get his dad’s and uncle’s mobiles.  I finished getting the dough together for the sugar cookies, then got supper on.  After supper, I rolled out and cut the cookies and put them on the cookie sheets.  Did the dishes while they were cooking.

“1O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people.  2Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.  3Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.  4Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore.  5Remember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;  6O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen.  7He is the LORD our God: his judgments are in all the earth.”  Psalm 105:1-7

November 10.  Just a little rain last night — .2”

Daddy started teaching on the family in lotu this morning.  There were lots of prayer requests so it was a little bit late when lotu finished, but not too much late.  The prayer requests were important.  I just shortened the two school classes a bit so we didn’t go too late.  It was hard to concentrate anyway as the meeting coming up tomorrow night was on my mind.

Another rat decided to visit school this morning.  Manila was practicing reading the Scripture he will be reading on family day, when I heard the noise up in the silver paper.  I tried to get up quietly to get the broom and try to hit the rat, but I tripped over my basket of school stuff and made quite a racket.  The rat was quiet a couple minutes after that, but then started moving around again so I took a whack where I saw movement in the silver paper.  He ran over to the top pole of the frame on the west side and ran to the corner and started around the north side.  I headed him off in the middle and tried to hit him, but he ran back to the corner and down the outside of the wall.  Daddy heard the commotion and came out to see what was going on.  I had cleaned up rat droppings out there earlier in the morning so figured there was another rat around.  Daddy put a trap out there this evening, but the rat probably got a good scare and won’t come back for a few days, like the last one.

Nuanda and Ana came this evening to say that they want to have a part with those who want to see things change in the church and see the church being obedient to God’s Word.  Ana said that, when she was a little girl, Tema helped lead her to the Lord.

Devit called this afternoon and said he was just past Irakia.

“4Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified.  5But I am poor and needy: make haste unto me, O God: thou art my help and my deliverer; O LORD, make no tarrying.”  Psalm 70:4,5

November 11.  No rain last night.  No water either.  The water is gone again.  Kelly said the water level is down again.  I guess we need lots and lots of rain.  Very warm this afternoon.

Devit and family got back from Aivonti around 10:00 last night.  Today he was off to the garden.  Max was here for Bible school, and Manila was here for school as usual.  He started his first English reader a couple days ago, and read some more today.  He is going to be a very good reader.  He is quick to catch on.  Still has trouble distinguishing between the short “a” and short “e” sounds though, but there has been improvement.  He is learning his first Bible verse in English too — Genesis 1:1.  We are singing it with the Owena Senesísi 1:1, to the same tune.

Wan and Gibson have been working on putting up a woodshed.  Wan talked to Daddy a while this morning while he was waiting for Gibson.  He does seem to have some good discernment regarding spiritual things.  He asked about the meeting tonight and seemed interested in coming.

George came and chopped firewood today.  It is the first time we have had to get firewood chopped in three weeks.  It warms up so quickly in the mornings that we don’t have to leave the wood stove going very long so haven’t used much firewood.

Had to make sure this afternoon that everything is ready for school tomorrow as we will be meeting tonight with the group who wants to build a church on Biblical principles.

"Trials must and will befall--
But with humble faith to see
Love inscribed upon them all;
This is happiness to me."  —Morning and Evening

“Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress.”  Psalm 71:3

November 12.  No rain last night.  Water came and went today.  Daddy filled up buckets whenever he heard water.  Kelly said the dam is dry.

Jevin rang the bell at 6:30 last evening to let people know it would soon be time for the meeting.  At 7:00 he started the generator.  Maraqorena was the first one here — he was on time.  Matyu came along soon afterward.  Not too many showed up before 7:30 though so we got a bit late start.  Some of the wives and children came too for which we thank the Lord.  Wan did show up for the meeting and so did Tomas.  So there were 10 families represented, plus Maraqorena.  Daddy talked with them about the importance of having a record of membership, something the church has never done, and that they would be the first ones on the list.  Up until now, everyone has pretty much assumed that everyone who comes in the door is a member.  The following were present for the meeting:  Devit and sons; Matyu and son Sosthenes; Luke; Maraqorena; Jevin, Miriam, and children; Nukawai and Mequ; Nuanda and Ana; Erik, Espina, Romi, and two sons; Wan; Opo and Ayando; Tomas.

Daddy also talked to them about the importance of faithfulness in church attendance.  We are glad we met with this group.  One thing that we were made aware of is that we are going to have to move very slowly in helping them make changes.  Their thinking is going to have to change in many areas, and it will not be easy and will not happen overnight.

Wan and Gibson worked more on the woodshed today.  Now it is ready for the kunai to be put on the roof.

Played concentration with Manila again in Owena class today.  He did pretty good this time — got a lot of matches.  It is hard to find learning games for just one person.

After lunch, I got bread made and in the pans to rise before nap.  We ran out of town bread yesterday.

Kelly went to Pinata today.  Said there are lots of sick people there.

Devit went to Waisara to buy coffee.

“18Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things.  19And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen.”  Psalm 72:18,19

November 7.  .8” rain all together last night.  Raining again this evening.  Thank you, Lord.

Daddy started giving some of the Baptist history, starting with the time of Christ.  He will preach more on that next Sunday.  Tomas translated for the second meeting.

Had a late dinner and long nap.

“1To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm or Song. God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah.  2That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.  3Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.  4O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah.  5Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.  6Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us.  7God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.”  Psalm 67

November 8.  3/4” rain all together last night.  The Lord gave us sunshine to enjoy today and is sending us more rain this evening.

No generator on tonight.  The freezer is empty.  We don’t want to run it any more than we have to anyway.  The fuel tank is leaking pretty badly.  We will really need to get another generator.

Opo and Ruth came this morning to talk about the school.  Ruth has taken CIS (Christian Integrated Schools) training in Madang, has had her practical experience in Aziana, and now is going to Lae to complete her CIS training.  If there are enough students here whose parents want to put them in school, and they want to build a school building, CIS will put her here to work and send other teachers to work with her.  I will be happy to turn the work over to her as there are many other things that I can be doing.  If there is not enough interest here, CIS will send her somewhere else.  Karimui has CIS schools, and Hollands say it is a good program.

Max came for Bible school this morning, and Devit and Luke came after he did.

Devit and carriers left this afternoon to take more coffee to Aivonti.  He had bought more coffee from the Tainarova people.

Matusa’s wife had a baby boy yesterday.  He came today for some clothes and a blanket and a box for the baby.  This is their fifth child.  The other four children were with him when he came.

Erisapet’s mother came this afternoon with a couple pumpkins.  She said she has lots of pumpkins in her garden.  I was thankful for the pumpkins.  She saw the Pidgin picture books on the shelf in the living room and wanted to know what they were.  So I sat down with her and we looked through all the books together.  Oh, how I wish I knew how to translate all those Bible verses!  I wanted so much to give her all those verses in her own language.  I was able to translate parts of some of them, but not as my heart desired.  How wonderful it would be to see her get saved!

Somebody also brought us a couple popos today.  We were thankful for those.  We had been praying for some fruit.  Thanks to God for those extra special blessings.

A lot of people were over in Marivo today.  One of Kuraqo’s children died a couple days ago from typhoid.  He was about Judy’s age, just a little tot.  There was also a pig market over there today.

This afternoon, after a walk around the schoolroom, I worked on the new Bible verse — visual, and tune for singing.  After supper and dishes, I made sure everything was ready for all the classes tomorrow.  When I got to English class today, I discovered I didn’t even have a lesson plan made.  Oops!  The Lord helped to know which direction to take for the class.  I was thankful for His help for that, as well as throughout the whole morning.

"As ye have received Christ Jesus the Lord." Colossians 2:6  Salvation may be described as the blind receiving sight, the deaf receiving hearing, the dead receiving life; but we have not only received these blessings, we have received CHRIST JESUS Himself. It is true that He gave us life from the dead. He gave us pardon of sin; He gave us imputed righteousness. These are all precious things, but we are not content with them; we have received Christ Himself. The Son of God has been poured into us, and we have received Him, and appropriated Him. What a heartful Jesus must be, for heaven itself cannot contain Him!  —Morning...

What an honour to entertain the Son of God! The heaven of heavens cannot contain Him, and yet He condescends to find a house within our hearts! We are not worthy that He should come under our roof, but what an unutterable privilege when He condescends to enter! for then He makes a feast, and causes us to feast with Him upon royal dainties, we sit at a banquet where the viands are immortal, and give immortality to those who feed thereon. Blessed among the sons of Adam is he who entertains the angels' Lord.  —...and Evening

                                                         ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

“3But let the righteous be glad; let them rejoice before God: yea, let them exceedingly rejoice.  4Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him….  19Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.  20He that is our God is the God of salvation; and unto GOD the Lord belong the issues from death….  33To him that rideth upon the heavens of heavens, which were of old; lo, he doth send out his voice, and that a mighty voice.  34Ascribe ye strength unto God: his excellency is over Israel, and his strength is in the clouds.  35O God, thou art terrible out of thy holy places: the God of Israel is he that giveth strength and power unto his people. Blessed be God.”  Psalm 68:3,4, 19,20, 33-35

November 9.  A little less than .7” rain last night.  Just a light rain so far this evening.

Went out for a little walk around the yard this afternoon to get some sunshine and a little exercise.

“I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.”  Psalm 69:30

November 4.  No rain last night.

Lots of people got back last night after dark.  Some of them quite late.

Jevin didn’t show up to ring the bell this morning so Daddy rang the first bell.  Max was here for Bible school this morning.  Daddy had him ring the second bell.  He said he didn’t go to Okapa because he was sick after working in the garden on Monday.

Kelly is fixing up Molu’s house as a couple young lady nurses are supposed to be coming to work here.

Very busy this evening with lots of worksheets to prepare for school tomorrow.

"For my strength is made perfect in weakness." 2Corinthians 12:9  A primary qualification for serving God with any amount of success, and for doing God's work well and triumphantly, is a sense of our own weakness. When God's warrior marches forth to battle, strong in his own might, when he boasts, "I know that I shall conquer, my own right arm and my conquering sword shall get unto me the victory," defeat is not far distant. God will not go forth with that man who marches in his own strength. He who reckoneth on victory thus has reckoned wrongly, for "it is not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts." They who go forth to fight, boasting of their prowess, shall return with their gay banners trailed in the dust, and their armour stained with disgrace. Those who serve God must serve Him in His own way, and in His strength, or He will never accept their service. That which man doth, unaided by divine strength, God can never own. The mere fruits of the earth He casteth away; He will only reap that corn, the seed of which was sown from heaven, watered by grace, and ripened by the sun of divine love. God will empty out all that thou hast before He will put His own into thee; He will first clean out thy granaries before He will fill them with the finest of the wheat. The river of God is full of water; but not one drop of it flows from earthly springs. God will have no strength used in His battles but the strength which He Himself imparts. Are you mourning over your own weakness? Take courage, for there must be a consciousness of weakness before the Lord will give thee victory. Your emptiness is but the preparation for your being filled, and your casting down is but the making ready for your lifting up.

Grace is my shield and Christ my song."  —Morning and Evening

“The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.”  Psalm 64:10

Novmber 5.  Still no rain.  But still water coming from the top of the mountain.  Thank you, Lord, for water.

Manila was at the gate and ready for school at 7:00 this morning.  I wasn’t quite ready, but started school not too much later than that.  It was nice to be done with school early and have a little time before dinner to get some other things done.

Wan worked a while today on getting one of the trees cut down, one that he had cut branches off before.  Got part of it cut down, but he got pretty hot so took a break.  Didn’t come back today and work on it any more though.

Didn’t sleep well last night and am really tired this evening.  Was on my feet for a couple hours before and after supper, preparing greens for dinner tomorrow, making supper, making granola, doing dishes.

“1To the chief Musician, A Psalm and Song of David. Praise waiteth for thee, O God, in Sion: and unto thee shall the vow be performed.  2O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come.  3Iniquities prevail against me: as for our transgressions, thou shalt purge them away.  4Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.  5By terrible things in righteousness wilt thou answer us, O God of our salvation; who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea: 6Which by his strength setteth fast the mountains; being girded with power: 7Which stilleth the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves, and the tumult of the people.  8They also that dwell in the uttermost parts are afraid at thy tokens: thou makest the outgoings of the morning and evening to rejoice.  9Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it.  10Thou waterest the ridges thereof abundantly: thou settlest the furrows thereof: thou makest it soft with showers: thou blessest the springing thereof.  11Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop fatness.  12They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness: and the little hills rejoice on every side.  13The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with corn; they shout for joy, they also sing.”  Psalm 65

November 6.  No rain last night, but a good rain this evening.  Praise the Lord for rain!  Also a beautiful morning for the clothes to dry.  And for His strength today for the many tasks that needed to be done.

There was a pretty good sized rat in the trap in the schoolroom this morning.  That’s the first sign we’ve seen of a rat since the day I scared the other one out of the schoolroom.

After lotu there was laundry to do.  In between loads, I worked on peeling potatoes and getting them ready along with onions, mushrooms, herbs, etc. for soup for the weekend.  Had to use canned vegetables this time.  Elisabet’s mother came by this afternoon and said she        will bring a pumpkin on Monday.  It will be a blessing to have another pumpkin.  The people say they are still short on food, particularly kaukau and pumpkin right now.

Nukawai and Mequ also came while we were doing laundry.  I talked with them while Daddy was filling up the machine with rinse water; and Daddy talked with them while I got the first load of clothes in to rinse.  They came to let us know that they also want to do right and help build a strong Independent Baptist Church.  That makes six families now, plus Maraqorena. We thank the Lord for all of them.

The day was already getting quite warm by the time I finished hanging out clothes.  Worked on cleaning the bathroom this morning as it is usually a lot hotter in there in the afternoon.  Daddy went out and got the clothes in while I was finishing up dinner preparations.

Wan and Gibson finished cutting down the pine tree out back that he had cut the branches off before.  Also cut down that scrawny one that had been dead for some time.  They have been gathering poles, and are going to make a woodshed out there.

After nap this afternoon, I worked on checking the Pidgin translation of Luke for a while until Daddy woke up.  Then we had our Bible reading and prayer time.  Then I worked more on Luke, and Daddy folded the clothes.  Then I went for a walk around the schoolroom, and did a little work outside.  Daddy was out there cleaning out the drum that we had used for catching rain water.

After I came back in, I swept the schoolroom and all the rooms in the house.  Washed the bathroom floor and the living room floor.  While I was doing that, Daddy ground up rice for rice cereal.  Then I cleaned out the grinder; made chocolate cookies for Daddy; and got things ready for supper.  After supper, I cleaned up the kitchen, did the dishes, put away the cookies, washed the kitchen floor, bedroom floor, and the linoleum section in the schoolroom.  Daddy took care of emptying the buckets for me and cleaning out the mop when I was done washing floors.  He did a bunch of other jobs around the house today too.

By that time, I was more than ready to sit down.  Played the keyboard for a little while.  Then got busy doing printing for school.  Trying to get a few days ahead as we will not be needing to run the generator after tomorrow night, as there won’t be anything left in the freezer.  I am really looking forward to my bath tonight after a hot, sweaty day.

“Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.”  Psalm 66:12

November 1.  No rain last night to speak of.  Daddy cleaned out the drum this morning so it would be clean and ready for more rain water.  This morning, it did not look like rain would be coming today, but the Lord changed things by this evening and sent a good hard rain.  So the drum is full and over-flowing again.  Praise the Lord for water to wash clothes with on Wednesday!  As well as water for other things.  Lilian and Tania came this morning and this evening also, and each carried a bucket of water from the river each time.  We are grateful for their help.  They got sopping wet this evening as the rains started not long after they left the house with the buckets.

David and Luke showed up early also, so they started Bible school early.  They had planned to carry coffee tomorrow too.

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”  Psalm 91:1

November 2.  Praise the Lord for one inch rain last evening, and for a nice sunny day today.  It is raining again this evening.

Somebody said the dam is up to its level again, but there is still no water coming through.  So there is apparently some other problem that the people cannot find.  Kelly came back today, and they said he went up to check things out too.

Manila was ready for school before 7:30 this morning so we got an early start, and got done a little before noon today.  We had a little visitor in school today — a gray, four-legged creature with a long tail.  I heard him up in the silver paper during math class.  I got out the broom and tried to hit him, but wasn’t sure exactly what spot he was in.  He dashed over to the top pole of the frame on the west side and ran across it to the corner above the closet.  I took a whack at him there, but he was hard to get to.  He dashed back the other way, and jumped down onto the floor.  I went after him, but he went outside through a space between the wall and the floor.

"I am the Lord, I change not." Malachi 3:6  It is well for us that, amidst all the variableness of life, there is One whom change cannot affect; One whose heart can never alter, and on whose brow mutability can make no furrows. All things else have changed—all things are changing. The sun itself grows dim with age; the world is waxing old; the folding up of the worn-out vesture has commenced; the heavens and earth must soon pass away; they shall perish, they shall wax old as doth a garment; but there is One who only hath immortality, of whose years there is no end, and in whose person there is no change. The delight which the mariner feels, when, after having been tossed about for many a day, he steps again upon the solid shore, is the satisfaction of a Christian when, amidst all the changes of this troublous life, he rests the foot of his faith upon this truth—"I am the Lord, I change not."

The stability which the anchor gives the ship when it has at last obtained a hold-fast, is like that which the Christian's hope affords him when it fixes itself upon this glorious truth. With God "is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." What ever His attributes were of old, they are now; His power, His wisdom, His justice, His truth, are alike unchanged. He has ever been the refuge of His people, their stronghold in the day of trouble, and He is their sure Helper still. He is unchanged in His love. He has loved His people with "an everlasting love"; He loves them now as much as ever He did, and when all earthly things shall have melted in the last conflagration, His love will still wear the dew of its youth. Precious is the assurance that He changes not! The wheel of providence revolves, but its axle is eternal love.

"Death and change are busy ever,

Man decays, and ages move;
But His mercy waneth never;
God is wisdom, God is love."  —Morning and Evening

“1To the chief Musician, to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David. Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.  2He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved….  5My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.  6He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.  7In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.  8Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.  Psalm 62:1,2,5-8

November 3.  Light rain off and on through the night.

Up early.  Started preparing the uxai and pumpkin for dinner.  Praise the Lord for uxai again.  We have been thankful for pumpkin and greens the past two or three months, when they have been available.  But it is a special blessing to have uxai again.

Early this morning, Jevin called to say that he was just about at the market place to sell his coffee.

Started wash at 6:30 this morning and was done hanging them out a little after 7:30.  Then read Bible and did my walking and praying.  Had a little time to work at the computer before lotu.  Not many in lotu today as so many went yesterday to sell coffee.  Miriam came to help carry our chairs.  Nuxawai led the singing this morning, and took charge of the prayer time.  Daddy tried to clarify some misunderstandings people had regarding Sunday’s challenge.  After that, he finished up the story of Abraham’s servant seeking a wife for Isaac, pointing out the last two applications for knowing the will of God.

After lotu, Nuxawai talked to Daddy a bit and said that his wife has been off working in the garden; but when she comes back, they will come see us.

While Manila and I were in school, I heard Kelly’s voice, talking to Daddy.  Also heard the sound of water coming through the tap.  Kelly had worked on the water system this morning, and right now water is flowing.  Praise the Lord!

This afternoon, Opo came to say that he and his family want to follow God’s Word and help build a true church.  He wants to do something to serve the Lord, like song leading.  He said that the problem with his legs started several years ago when he was very sick and Kelly gave him some strong shots.  From Opo’s description of the shots and the pain he suffers, it looks like there was damage to the nerves.  He cannot straighten his legs and has a lot of pain.  Has to walk with two sticks.

At supper time, Jevin called again and said that he would be crossing the river around 7:00, so he probably should be home by now.  Miriam came after supper with some greens and shared her desire to be with her husband in following the Lord and seeking to do right as a church.

“1A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; 2To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.  3Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.  4Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.  5My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: 6When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.  7Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.  8My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.”  Psalm 63:1-8
