July 18.  Cool and cloudy this morning with a little bit of sunshine.  Thunderstorms and rain this afternoon and rain this evening, but barely enough rain to wet the ground.

There was lots of work to grade today.  I got some of it done in class and finished the rest after nap.  Also had to get things ready for tomorrow’s lessons; sort out a small bunch of greens that Neomi’s mother had brought yesterday, wash them, wash the rest of the green onions, and set them all in the colander to dry; cut up the rest of the over-ripe popo and put it on to cook; peel the pumpkin after Daddy cut it up, then cut it up in small pieces to be cooked for supper.  All that took the rest of the afternoon.  After supper, now that the pressure cooker was empty, I got the greens and onions cut up and put them on to cook for tomorrow.  There were quite a few dishes this evening too.  After that, I still had a few more things to get ready for school tomorrow before being able to sit down here and relax.

“28Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law….  31Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.”  Romans 3:28,31

July 19.  8:30 p.m.  Another Friday has come and almost gone - the beginning of another weekend.

Dry and very cool this morning.  Very warm this afternoon and evening.

After breakfast and quiet time this morning, I put a pot of rice and lentils on the wood stove to cook for dinner.  Also put some eggs on to boil for egg salad sandwiches for our supper.

MAF came in twice today.  The second time was to bring in the body of the young boy from Tainaraba who went out to the hospital last week.  So sad to see a young person die.  I pray for his family and others to consider how short life is and how they need to be saved.

After school, Dallas, Phinehas, and Graham cleaned up the yard and cleaned out all the ditches.  Daddy and I had dinner.  Daddy went back up to the airstrip when the plane came, and I went for nap.  After nap, I finished phonics lesson plans for next week and checked on the boys’ work.

When the boys finished working, Dallas and Phinehas stayed for music lesson.  It had been quite a few weeks since they had had a lesson.  Will probably only have lessons every couple weeks now.  I don’t have as much new things to teach them right now.  Just want to give them more practice playing pieces using what they have already learned.

I didn’t realize how much time had gone by.  It was a little after 5:00 when we finished keyboard class.  Time to get supper.  Oops!  I still didn't get cookies made for Daddy today.  But there was popo crisp left for his snack, that I had made yesterday.  Tomorrow morning after lotu, while the girls are washing clothes, I will try to get some cookies made for him.

After supper, I did the math lesson plans, had a bath, got a snack, and then planned English and Social Studies.

“3For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.  4Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.  5But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.”  Romans 4:3-5

July 16.  It was very cloudy and foggy and cool this morning.  About mid-morning the sun came out.  SIL Kodiak made several trips from Aiyura to here with election teams; and the SIL helicopter shuttled the election teams from here to the neighboring tribal areas until mid-afternoon.  Voting for councilor and council president is scheduled for the next two days.

The rest of the day was pretty routine with school, meals, grading papers, and getting things ready for classes tomorrow.

“21But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”  Romans 3:21-23

July 17.  Dry and warm today.  The Lord gave us a pretty pink and blue sky early this morning, and then a few sprinkles of rain followed by a lovely rainbow arching across the Western sky.

Just before lotu time this morning, we heard shouting from down in the village.  Saw Matthew and Amos and a number of other people go running down toward Ahnyauntapeq.  A few people did come for lotu, including the speaker, David.  It was a little after 7:30 when the meeting started, and it was a little after 8:00 when it ended.  David continued his series on the work of the Holy Spirit, talking about his work in making us become children of God, John chapters 1 and 3.

We started school by 8:15, but only had two classes today because of the voting.  Finished phonics class around 9:20, and they had their recess.  Just before math class was over, we got word that the voting had started.  So as soon as they finished their work, they were dismissed.  They had to be there to vote when their name was called or they would miss their chance to vote.  They were called by families, starting at the beginning of the alphabet.  Daddy went up with the camera and took a number of pictures.

After the students left, I sat and finished up the grading.  Then I organized all their just-graded books and worksheets on top of the cupboard, cleaned the chalkboard, cut up some pumpkin to cook for dinner, got it on to cook, and then warmed up the leftover spaghetti.  After nap, I got the grades recorded in the record book, made sure everything was ready for tomorrow, and put some work on the chalkboard for class time drill.

Phinehas and Dallas came to practice keyboard, and I put pictures into the Kodak file.

MAF came around mid-morning with a CARE group who will be spending a couple days here to see if there is a good place to build a bridge across the Lamari.

“24Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.”  Rom 3:24-26

July 14.  Not quite as chilly during the night or this morning.  The fog rose quickly, and soon the sun was shining.

Made wheat pancakes for Daddy’s breakfast and rice pancakes for my own.  After breakfast and quiet time, I cleaned everything out of the freezer.  Put all the bread, cheese, and butter into a big bag to send with Janeth and Kelly down to the haus sik freezer.  Then I got gift bags ready for our elderly members.  After that, it was time to sit down a while.  Spent a little time working on notes in the Daniel study until time for lotu.

Even though it was a nice morning, people were late.  It was almost 10:30 when lotu started.  The song leader was very late so Daddy finally told Mike to lead the songs.  He was scheduled for the second service.  Then David, who was scheduled for first service, led songs during the second service.  It was a blessing to see Mandah and her mother here for the meetings today – the first time they have ever come, and they stayed for both meetings.  It has been a long time since we have even seen them.  We don’t know why they came here, but we are glad they did.

Tomas translated for the first meeting.  Amos was scheduled for the second, but he has a cold so Mathew took his place.  Daddy preached today on verses 1-11 of 1 Corinthians 15.

After our dinner, Daddy rested a bit in the recliner; and I went ahead and lay down for my nap.  Figured I would be up in time for the preaching in the second meeting.  When I got up, however, they were still singing.  They had gotten a late start.

After lotu, Daddy had a short nap, and I swept the schoolroom, rearranged the seating, got books put back on the shelves, unlocked the cupboard, and moved some things around on the bulletin boards.  Then I got supper.

After supper, I got things together for tomorrow’s classes.  I had planned to put material on the chalkboard for the students to copy in place of their math worksheet.  However, this lesson’s worksheet is a clock page.  So we checked the voltage and wattage on the Canon printer and found out that we can run it off the inverter.  So Daddy helped me move the Canon over to the other table where we could plug it in, and I was able to photo copy the clock page for tomorrow and one for Thursday.  After that, I did the dishes.

“Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?”  Romans 2:4

July 15.  I was awake at 5:45 this morning so went ahead and got up.  Had my morning drinks, leftover pancakes for breakfast, quiet time and walking time.  Got the bed made put a few eggs on to boil for egg salad sandwiches, and then worked on the Bible school lessons to get the students’ copies ready for printing whenever Daddy needs them and whenever the generator comes back.

Today was the first day of the third term of school, scheduled to start at 8:00.  At 7:59, there was still nobody here.  I closed down the computer and got ready to go to class.  A couple minutes after 8:00, two students came in - Bethuel and Steve.  So the three of us started school.  We had already prayed, talked a bit, and started going over the schedule for the term before anyone else came.  It was about 8:30 before we finished going over the schedule and talking about things we would be doing this term.  Then we started learning the books of the Old Testament, starting today with the books of Moses.

I was thankful that we finished everything by noon today.  That way we could have an earlier lunch and earlier nap.  For dinner, we finished up the popo crisp.  It wouldn’t have been good for another day.

After nap, there was grading to do, lessons to get ready for tomorrow, and some lesson material to write on the chalkboard.  I also looked through the picture files to try to find a chair lift, but didn’t find one.  “Chair lift” is mentioned in their new social studies lesson which we’ll be starting tomorrow.  I guess I’ll have to try to draw a picture.

By then it was supper time and then time to do dishes.

“19Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.  20Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”  Romans 3:19,20

Clothes Sale

July 12.  It is 8:15 p.m.  Just turned on the computer.  There is no power this evening so I busied myself with other things the first part of the evening.

It was only down to 54º this morning, but still felt plenty cold.  Got up early and started the wash.  Tomorrow was supposed to be wash day, but Daddy had to drain out the generator again so he can send it out to SIL on the helicopter tomorrow.  So we did wash today instead.  Don’t know how long the generator will be gone or when we’ll get to wash clothes again.  Maybe they’ll have to be done by hand.

While clothes were washing, I got my breakfast and set the rest of the clothes out on the tables and benches for the sale.  There was nice sunshine this morning for hanging out the laundry, but the air was a little nippy.  The sale was scheduled for 8:30, and we were done hanging clothes by 8:00.  I was thankful for a half hour to just sit and relax and read the Bible.  At 8:30, we opened the door for buyers.  Since there were no little kids’ clothes, only big kids and adults were allowed in, five at a time.  Sunny came and helped watch the door for us.  Things went pretty smoothly, and people seemed happy to get clothes.  By 11:00, just about everything was gone.  There were a few things left that we put away.  Maybe somebody will buy them later.

Then it was time to start dinner - a pot of rice with weevils (I did get most of them out beforehand), chicken gravy, and leftover greens.  Daddy went out and got the clothes in while I was cooking dinner because rain was threatening, and a few drops fell.  He also called for people to help him get the generator back into the shed.  Amos came up to help, and said that he and Mata had just come up from the haus sik.  Mata had a baby boy this morning and they just brought him home.  (It never did rain.)

It was 3:00 when I got up from nap.  I cut up part of a popo for our snack, and we enjoyed a nice fruit snack with the popo and bananas.  I added some almonds to mine.  Then I went through the soul-winning lesson and marked places to put blanks for the students to fill in.  Finished that just about 5:00, and then started supper.

After doing dishes, I put the students’ Bible and music lessons in their new folders and got the folders all put away in the cupboard.  Had my soda drink.  Put water on to heat for bath.  When bath water was ready, I had my bath.  It is cold again this evening, so the bath was hurry up.

“ Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.”  Acts 28:31

July 13.  Another dry day.  Down to 53º this morning, but much warmer this afternoon and evening than it has been.

It has been a very busy day.  SIL called before lotu this morning to get a weather report and tell Daddy that they would be here around 8:30.  So Daddy called for some men to help him get the generator up to the airstrip, ready for the airplane to take out to SIL.  Both the helicopter and fixed wing were supposed to come if the election team showed up.

After the men took the generator up, they came back for a short lotu.  Mike was in charge today and spoke more on God’s love, using 1 John 4:7-12 as his text.  Daddy left before lotu ended so he would be at the airstrip when the plane came.

I busied myself putting away the plastic bags and organizing the empty boxes from the sale yesterday.  Put all the leftover items into one box and put them under our bed.  Amos and Mata didn’t get to buy anything, and he wanted to know if there would be some things to buy later when they get some money.  Told him that we would hang on to the leftovers so they could check them later.  I also put all the cloth visuals away in the foot locker in the kitchen.  Since I am done with the chronological series, I won’t be needing them for a while.

Daddy started laying boxes on Connie’s bathroom floor so we can put some linoleum there, and I helped him a bit with that.  We also figured out where to put a rack up for towels, and he got that put up.

About 10:00, my feet were tired -- time to do a sit-down job.  Got journal notes from the past week ready to send to Christy and Connie.  When this entry is done, I’ll add these notes as well.

A few minutes after I sat down, we heard the roar of a plane engine.  SIL had come after all - just the fixed wing to bring more fuel for the helicopter to use when it shuttles the election team around.  So Daddy hastened up to the airstrip, and in a short while, the generator was on its way to SIL.

After my sit down break, I got carrots washed and cut up to cook for dinner - the last of the carrots.  We certainly have enjoyed them.  My what sweet carrots!  When I drink the broth, it tastes like there is sugar in the water.

Then I made cookie bars for Daddy -- a blonde layer on the bottom with chocolate chips, and a chocolate layer on top with the rest of the chips sprinkled on top of that.  They smelled awfully good.  Of course, I had to taste a part of one when they were done, and they tasted good too.  A good cook always samples the food, you know.  :-)   While the bars were cooking, I made some crackers for myself -- whole wheat with barley, plus unprocessed bran, sesame seeds, diced onion, garlic salt, rosemary, and curry powder.  After I rolled them out and put them on the cookie sheets, I sprinkled salt on the top.  Then popped those into the oven to cook.

Put the carrots on to cook; and when they were done, I warmed up the leftover rice and chicken gravy for our dinner.  As soon as I got the kitchen cleaned up, I went for nap.  Daddy waited up a while until Amos and Mike were done boxing up the firewood they had cut this morning.  I didn’t even hear him come lie down.

Slept about an hour and a half.  When I got up, I cut up some popo and made popo crisp.  Also cooked up the last of the topside mince and put it in the pressure cooker.  Since we have no power, I needed to get some things out of the freezer.  About 4:30, I took a half hour sit-down break at the computer before getting supper, and started an e-mail to Christy and Connie.

Now that supper and dishes are done, I am thankful to be off my feet again.

“16For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.  17For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.”  Romans 1:16,17

July 10.  Another dry day with cold, strong winds and a mixture of clouds and sun.

In lotu this morning, Matthew continued his talk on the new creature, this time talking about a new mouth.

Bonita and Sunny did more cleaning after lotu.  First they cleaned and washed the kitchen cupboards.  Then they did the kitchen window, and windows and doors in the schoolroom.  Last of all, they cleaned Connie’s bathroom.

Daddy and I sorted all the wood scraps into boxes, and Daddy bundled up bigger pieces of wood and wrapped them with package tape.  Then the girls took all that down to the generator shed for us.

Daniel didn’t come today to finish putting the plastic around the kitchen window so Daddy and I finished that.  We need to put the ooqdi frame back up and then we can put the curtains back up.  I did some more sorting through boxes in Connie’s room.  Have a ways to go yet as there is lots of school stuff in there that needs to be gone through.

SIL came this afternoon and left a drum of fuel here for the helicopter to use when it does shuttles for the local elections this coming Saturday.  Daddy asked the pilot if there is someone at SIL who works on generators.  He said there is and gave Daddy a number.  Daddy tried to call, but couldn’t get through so will try again tomorrow.  If someone can work on the generator for us right away, we can probably send it out on the helicopter on Saturday.

I sorted out one more box of stuff in Connie’s room this afternoon and then got Sunny’s math lessons ready for printing.  Need to get several weeks ahead on those in case the generator does go out.

“….he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.”  Acts 28:23b

July 11.  It is almost 8:00.  I just finished the next soul-winning lesson, and now it is time to write in my journal.  Daddy is in Bible school with the men.  A couple of the wives are here too.

It is quite chilly this evening, and a cold wind is blowing.  We have a fire going in the wood stove this evening.  It has been a very cool, dry day.  The temperature was down to 50º this morning, and a hair below that.  Will it be colder tomorrow morning?!?

The girls did not come to work today (I didn’t have any work for them to do today), but Daniel came.  He finished tacking down the plastic around the kitchen window, put the ooqdi frame back around the window, put the hardware back up for the curtains.  Then he put a piece of ooqdi in one corner of the bathroom where it was needed, and a piece to border the top of the wall above the freezer in the kitchen.

I sorted out things in Connie’s other tote.  Later in the morning, Daddy turned on the generator, and I worked on the soul-winning lesson until almost dinner time.  There were lots of interruptions so I didn’t really get a whole lot done.

For dinner, I made spaghetti pizza with the leftover spaghetti.  It was going on 1:00 before we had dinner, and 1:30 before we got to nap.  I slept until about 3:00.

This afternoon, we talked about prices for the clothes for the sale tomorrow, and I got the prices written on the chalkboard.  Then I worked more on the soul-winning lesson until supper time.

“Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.”  Acts 28:28

July 8.  Praise the Lord for a fairly good sleep last night.

Today was another dry day.  Mostly cloudy and cool this morning.  Periods of sunshine -- more in the afternoon than in the morning.

Today was a busy day.  Warmed up pancakes.  Had quiet time and ate breakfast.  Put eggs on the wood stove to boil for making egg salad later.  Got all the trash together, and Daddy took it out and burned it later.  Started putting together the visual for learning the books of the Old Testament and finished those after Sunny and Bonita started working.  Also put together the 8 multiplication and division charts,

Sunny and Bonita came around 8:30.  The first thing we had them do was grind rice to make rice cereal and rice flour.  Sunny did most of the grinding, and Bonita swept floors while Sunny was grinding.  Sunny also ground up some barley for flour.  After that, Sunny scrubbed the outside of the gas stove, and Bonita scrubbed the rolling cart.  Then Bonita started washing the office and kitchen floors, and Sunny went around with the dustpan and brush sweeping up dirt that Bonita didn’t get with the broom.  When Bonita got part of the kitchen floor washed, she turned the mop over to Sunny, and Bonita started drying the floors.  While Bonita finished drying the floors, Sunny cleaned the dried mud off our town shoes.  Then she washed off Daddy’s shoes.  My shoes will go in the washing machine tomorrow.  They cleaned out the mop and bucket, and by then it was 11;30.  So we called it a day, and I asked them to come back tomorrow.  There is lots more cleaning that needs to be done.

I cleaned out a couple more boxes of things for selling or giving away and organized them with the other stuff.  Got bread made and in the pans to rise.  Cut up carrots to cook for dinner, and made spaghetti.

After nap, I got the bread put in the oven.  Cut up a popo.  Put away some things I had moved in the morning so they could sweep and mop in places that hadn’t been done in a long time.  Reorganized some things in the office.  Then after snack, Daddy and I went for a short walk.  It was nice outside, and there was a gentle, warm breeze.

When we came back, I made song sheets (in the computer) for the Books of the Old Testament song.  (Need to print those out this evening.)  There were LOTS of dishes to do this evening.

“That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.”  Acts 26:23

July 9.  Another dry day, but got pretty cold overnight, and there have been cold winds blowing throughout the day.  The Lord gave us nice sunshine this morning, but more clouds this afternoon.

After my early morning health drinks, I sorted out the clothes, and then Daddy turned on the generator so we could start the wash.  Fixed and ate my breakfast, read Bible, and had some prayer time while the clothes were washing.  Only did two loads of clothes today, but did a blanket in a third load, and my town shoes and yesterday’s rags in a fourth half-load.  So it took a while to get everything done.

The girls came to work just before clothes were ready to hang out.  I was going out with the blanket to hang it on the line.  After that, I had the girls come in and start shelling peanuts while we finished up the wash and went out to hang the clothes.  It was nice to get out in the sunshine, and it didn’t take long for the clothes to dry with the nice sunshine and all the wind.

The girls were just finishing up the peanuts when we came back inside.  We divided the peanuts up into three trays, and Bonita took them out and put them in the sun to dry.  Their next job was to sort, wash, and cut up onions and greens to be cooked for dinner.

The rest of the morning, they did cleaning.  First, the laundry room, dusting and washing the shelves and wash table, and then sweeping and washing the floor.  The bamboo floor was done on hands and knees with scrub brushes.  While they were doing that, I got everything out of the bathroom cupboards so those could be cleaned.  They needed to be dusted and washed; and the bathroom floor needed to be swept and washed.  That floor too was done on hands and knees.  By then it was 11:30 and time to call it quits for today.

Daniel came this morning as well.  First he fixed the southwest corner of the fence so kids and animals can’t crawl underneath it.  Then he came inside, and he and Daddy started the job of putting plastic around the kitchen window to try to prevent the rain from coming inside when we have a storm that blows from the south.  Daniel had to put some poles here and there first so he would have something to nail the plastic to.  He got the east side and the top finished, and will finish the other two sides tomorrow.

Besides cleaning stuff out of cupboards this morning and supervising the work, I got the students’ reminders cut out for memorizing the books of the Old Testament.  Later in the morning, I wrote a couple e-mails and sent them, and got the greens cooking.  While Daddy and Daniel finished up what they were doing, I went out and got the clothes down.  Then I warmed up dinner.  It was about 12:45 before we ate and after 1:30 before we went to nap.  It was almost 3:00 when I got up.

This afternoon, I went through some of the bathroom items, got rid of a few things, reorganized other things, and got things put away.  Still have one more box of things that needs to be put away.  Just before supper, I sat for a while at the computer and started putting the students’ music lessons into a separate file.

“Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.”  Acts 27:25

Meatball Stew!

July 6.  It was pretty cold last night, and the skies were clear and sunny early this morning.  But as the morning wore on, the skies turned cloudy, and the air turned cool.  Later in the morning, strong winds started to blow.  The sun came out again this afternoon, but the cool winds continued to whip through the grass and trees and through the house too.

Today was a busy day, and I am tired this evening.

Matthew had charge of lotu this morning.  He continued his series about the new man, talking today about the ear.

It was nice not to have to do laundry after lotu.  When lotu was over, I got clean sheets put on the bed and made up the bed.  Then Daddy turned on the generator for a while so I worked on Daniel for about an hour.  Later Daddy changed the oil in the generator.  About 10:30, I started fixing dinner.  Peeled potatoes, and made meatballs, then cut up onions and browned the onions and meatballs.  Added water.  Cut up the potatoes, some carrots and broccoli and added those.  Spiced it up with seasonings, and there was meatball stew cooking for our dinner.

After nap, I washed my hair.  Then spent most of the rest of the afternoon going through other drums, finding more of Connie’s clothes to set aside for the sale, finding the bedding for Connie’s bed and putting all that in the drum in her room, and finding things we’ll be using for the drama at the end of the school year and putting all that in another drum.  By the time I was done, it was 4:30, and I needed to sit down a while before getting supper.

“5Exalt ye the LORD our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy….  9Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his holy hill; for the LORD our God is holy.”  Psalm 99:5,9

July 7.  The Lord gave us a warm, dry day today.  There were some cool winds, but it wasn’t as cold as the other day.

After breakfast and quiet time this morning, I cut out the labels I had printed last night for the students’ Bible folders, and pasted the labels on the folders.  Then I found dividers to use in their folders for their two Bible studies and music lessons.  This afternoon, I got tabs put on the dividers to label the three sections.

After lunch, I was tired and lay down for a nap.  Had a good sound sleep and woke up in time for the afternoon preaching.

After lotu, I finished setting up the Bible folders and then work on some lessons and Bible verse reminders in the computer.

Yesterday was the last day on the Cipro, and this morning I started on the nitrofurantoin.  I am feeling quite nauseated this evening after only two doses so don’t know how I’m going to handle it.

“To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.”  Acts 26:18

July 4.  Today is Independence Day for our beloved America.

What a lovely day the Lord gave us today!   When we woke up this morning, the world was lost in fog.  It wasn’t long, however, before the fog had disappeared, and the sun was brightly shining.  It was one of those perfect dry season days - clear blue skies, not too hot, not too cool, not too humid, a refreshing breeze.

I praise the Lord for one four-hour stretch of sleep last night, the first time in a looong time.  Also for a two hour sound-asleep nap this afternoon.  It had been a looong time since I’d had a good nap too.

I praise the Lord that healing is beginning to take place, and that I am getting more rest and gaining some strength.  Today was somewhat busy, but I was able to do plenty of restful things too.  While my breakfast was warming up this morning (leftover pancakes and pear syrup), I sorted out the laundry.  Then Daddy turned on the generator, and I washed clothes while I was eating breakfast.  Also started revising my prayer notebook.

Daddy helped hang out the wash.  There were lots of little things this morning so it took a while to get them hung up.  But it felt so good to be out in the fresh air and sunshine.  After we came in, I had my vitamin drink.  Then I relaxed in the recliner for a while, read my Bible, and worked more on revising my prayer notebook.

After that, I got a snack, did the dishes (they didn’t get done last night), and worked on lesson plans for the first week of school.  Finished the lesson plans this afternoon, then folded the clothes, started making a list of projects I need to work on before school starts again, got a schedule make up for term three and notes for things to talk about with the students on orientation day, and started unpacking a drum of Connie’s clothes.

This evening, I printed out new family lessons for the Bible school students.  It is about time for them to come to class now.  They didn’t come last night because they were at a community meeting that didn’t end until 9:00.

Now I am scanning math lessons for Sunny for this coming term.

It sounds like Philemon is doing really well in nursing school.  The Lord has answered many prayers for him and he acknowledges God’s intervention in many areas in his life.  Philemon’s grade average is 3.3.

“1O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.  2The LORD hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen.  3He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.  4Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.  5Sing unto the LORD with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.  6With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King.  7Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.  8Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together  9Before the LORD; for he cometh to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity.”  Psalm 98

July 5.  Today was quite a change from yesterday - very cool, cloudy, and some rain.  A little bit of sunshine peeked through now and then.

My day started about 6:15 with a crypto drink.  Then I cut up some apple and pear and had that with some granola for breakfast, along with my morning cipro.  Read Bible while eating breakfast and then did some walking and praying.  Daddy turned on the generator, and I worked on translation of Daniel chapter 3.  Later in the morning, I unpacked the rest of the drum of Connie’s clothes and got them all organized into boxes for the clothes sale.  Also made myself some date bars so I would have a healthy guilt-free snack to eat.  No sugar - just dates, with apple and pear pieces that were leftover from my breakfast, heated and added to a mixture of flour, salt, baking soda, olive oil, a big piece of fresh ginger grated, and sesame seeds.  Added enough water to make a soft dough.  Spread in baking pan and tossed into oven.  Yum!

Somebody came from Aziana today with a sackful of mandarins, and we thank the Lord for the nice citrus fruit.

Justin came this morning to check all the wires in the house to see if they might be causing the generator not to work right.  The cleaning of the injector did not solve the problem although the first couple days it wasn’t as bad.  Justin found several loose connections in the lights.  This evening, it was acting up a lot more, but after Daddy unplugged the keyboard from the extension cord, it calmed right down.  (Phinehas is here practicing keyboard which now is attached to the inverter.)

George came early this morning and started cutting firewood and worked on that all day.  We are thankful for that as we had the wood stove going about two-thirds of the day, and the firewood had run out.

We finished up leftover chicken, rice, and veggies for dinner today.  We had planned to go for a walk after nap, but it was raining when we got up.  I did more work in Connie’s bedroom, did the dishes (there were LOTS of them plus 40 mandarins to be washed), and worked more on Daniel until supper time.

We are not sure if the men will be here for Bible school this evening or not.  Wero from Marivo passed away this morning after a long illness, and they will be going over there to cry tonight.  We will see.

The men ARE here for Bible school.  :-)

“And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.”  Acts 24:16

July 3.  More rain last night.  Today was flight day back to Owena.  I was awakened about 5:00 by people outside loading up a vehicle for their trip.  It wasn’t time to get up yet, although we did have to get up early.  Daddy got me up around 5:40.  Had the last minute packing to do, breakfast to eat, and dishes to clean up before we left for the hangar.  Randy came a little before 7:00 with his vehicle to help us load up and take things over to the hangar.  There was lots of fog hanging around Goroka, although the area immediately around the airstrip was clear, and there wouldn’t be any problem climbing above the clouds to head toward Owena.  Weather report from Owena was fog and light rain.  There were seven people going to Andikombi on the same flight, and an Aziana family coming to Owena so they could walk back to Aziana.  Apparently the strip is closed in Aziana.  So the twin otter had quite a few passengers.  Weather report from Andikombi was good so the pilots decided they would fly over Owena and look at the weather there.  If it was open, we would go there first.  If not, we would go on to Andikombi and then come back.

It was a little after 8:30 when we finally took off from Goroka.  We climbed up above the clouds and saw nice blue sky and sunshine above.  Ahead there was nothing but a sea of clouds as far as the eye could see and beyond.  I was so hoping that Owena would be open and we could land there first.  But it wasn’t.  So on we went on another fifteen minutes to Andikombi.  All the way to Andikombi too, and on beyond, there was just a sea of clouds.  But their airstrip was open.  Dropped off the Andikombi people and their cargo and headed back to Owena.  It was about 10:00 when we got here.  There was still some fog near the approach, but there was plenty of room for the pilots to circle in front of it and land.  Praise the Lord, we were home!

I headed right down to the house and opened the house up so we would be ready for the carriers to bring our cargo.  What a mess on the kitchen floor from the rains they had had here!  It apparently leaked down the wood stove chimney, as there was dark brown water all over the floor in front of the stove, and the wooden stove base was all wet.  I got out some rags to soak up the water.

After the carriers came and Daddy came, what was left of the morning was spent unpacking and putting things away.  Got the freezer loaded up, and put some eggs on to boil for sandwiches for lunch.  This afternoon, there was more putting away to do, but nap came first.  I was so thankful to be able to lie down and rest for a whole hour without having to get up in the middle of nap - the first time in two or three months.

After nap, I did more cleaning up and putting away, worked a little bit on lesson plans for this coming school term, and then headed to the kitchen to get supper.  Fixed a pot of carrots and broccoli.  Put a pot of rice on to cook after spending some time picking out weevils.  Browned some onion and chicken and let that cook in the pressure cooker.  Then made it into gravy to go on the rice.

Didn’t have to do dishes this evening so worked on school lessons again after supper.

“6The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory.  7Confounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols: worship him, all ye gods.  8Zion heard, and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of thy judgments, O LORD.  9For thou, LORD, art high above all the earth: thou art exalted far above all gods.  10Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.  11Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.  12Rejoice in the LORD, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.”  Psalm 97:6-12

Finishing Up The Shopping

July 1.  Raining again this evening.  There was a fair amount of sunshine this morning, but it was cloudy again by mid-afternoon.

Had leftover pancakes for breakfast.  Then Daddy went to market and got carrots, broccoli, tomatoes, and a few bananas.  After that, we went up to Goroka Food Mart, which used to be New Century.  Got eggs and a trash basket and a couple other little things.  Then I sat in the car while Daddy went to one of the other West stores and got a “case” of salt (trade item).  Then he took me back to the flat, and he went out to do some other shopping.  I spent most of the day working at the computer.  Got the June progress report done.  I’m thankful to have that done a bit earlier this month.  Finished notes on Daniel chapter 2 and worked on a few verses in the Gospel of John studies for school.

We had just sat down and started to eat dinner (about 12:30) when Randy called for Daddy to pick him up at the hangar.  So Daddy went out, and I finished my lunch.  When Daddy came back, I heated up his soup in the microwave, and poured a bowl of soup for Randy.  Pot luck soup was on the menu today for dinner.

This afternoon, Randy helped Daddy take our boxes to the hangar for our flight Wednesday morning.  Then Daddy went around with him to some of the other stores.

Later this afternoon, Daddy walked up to Papindo West, and got caught there in the rain.  He was gone for about an hour.  I was already eating my supper when he got back at 5:30.  Then he had to go find Randy because Randy had come by a few minutes before that to talk to him.  So it was after 6:00 before Daddy got to have his supper.

“19And when he had saluted them, he declared particularly what things God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry.  20And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord….”  Acts 21:19,20

July 2.  Rained or drizzled a good part of the night.  It was still drizzling when we got up this morning.  Daddy went around shopping with Randy this morning, and then we all went out to lunch at the new Papindo eating area.  Daddy had a hamburger and a big cup of cappuccino, and I ordered a couple pieces of pizza.  I asked ahead of time if the pizza was hot because I knew that the pizza at SVS was always cold.  Oh, yes it was hot, they assured me.  Nevertheless when she brought me my plate, the first thing I did was check to see if the pizza was hot before the waitress could get away.  Cold pizza!  “This pizza is cold,” I said.  “Can you heat it up?”  So she took the pizza to the back, and in a few minutes, she was back with hot pizza.  I thanked her and enjoyed the pizza.

Afterward we stopped at the post office, and then came back to the house.  Daddy went over to the office and paid our bill.  After nap, Daddy went out to Goroka West and got a battery for my watch.

Finished up the lesson on Jon 1:10-13 today, and revised Jon 1:14-18.  Wrote several e-mails.  Packed up as much as I could so we’ll be ready for our flight in the morning.

NTM went into Owena today with our fuel and generator.  They were supposed to bring out coffee and an empty diesel drum, but they changed their schedule and went in early.  The coffee wasn’t ready so they came back empty.

Have really been enjoying my morning Bible reading and meditations in Psalms these days.  Read Psalms 96 and 97 this morning.  “1 O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth.  2Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day.  3Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people.  4For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods.  5For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.  6Honour and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.  7Give unto the LORD, O ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength.  8Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come into his courts.  9O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.  10Say among the heathen that the LORD reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved: he shall judge the people righteously.  11Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof.  12Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice  13Before the LORD: for he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth: he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth.”  Psalm 96
