Figuring Fractions and Struggling with Sickness

July 23.  Went to bed last night with my bathrobe on, it was so cold.  And can you guess what the weather was like today?  Cool?  Yes.  Foggy?  Yes.  Cloudy?  Yes.  Rainy?  Just a little bit.  Sunny?  A half hour or maybe 45 minutes.  The wood stove is eating up lots of firewood these days.

It was close to 7:30 when lotu started this morning.  Therefore Amos only covered a short section - Acts 8:14-19.  David didn’t come in until quite late, but Silvia has been very sick so David has a bit more responsibility at home.

Since we were able to start school early, we finished phonics class a bit early.  That gave us extra time to do more review of fractions in math class.  I didn’t teach them anything new today even though the next lesson has something else new.  I just had them do the review exercises.  Sunny went home after math class because she wasn’t feeling well.

Didn’t have as much work to grade today so after getting that done and getting things ready for tomorrow, I had time to get a music lesson made up for Friday’s class.  At 4:30 I went to the kitchen to make cookies and to make biscuits for my supper.  Well, the biscuits got made because I needed those, but the cookies never got made.  There were people at the back door and people at the front door.  George had been cutting firewood a good part of the day and was at the back door waiting to get paid.  People came to the front door to buy things from the store.  Phinehas and Bethuel were here finishing up the new garbage hole, and then they were at the back door ready to get paid.  Both of us were coming and going, one at each door.

“2And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.  3And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand….  21But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison….  23The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the LORD was with him, and that which he did, the LORD made it to prosper.”  Genesis 39:2,3,21,23

July 24.  We were thankful that last night wasn’t so cold.  The day started out chilly and very foggy again.  SIL wanted to come in and check out a pilot plus bring cargo in for some of the people.  Finally late morning, the clouds were high enough for them to get in, and Daddy sent them a text message to let them know.  It was after 1:30 before they got here, however, and by then, we were getting a good rain shower.  The clouds were still high, however.  So even in the rain, they were able to do a lot of test flying around the area before landing.  There were also pretty strong winds before the rain slowed down.  The rain had stopped by the time he landed.  He wanted to make another trip back here with more cargo, but the weather wasn’t very good here or at Aiyura either.

Sunny was not here for school today.  Thania said Sunny is still sick.  Almost all the students had a hard time with their math lesson today.  Bonita, Phinehas, and Sosthenes did the best.

This afternoon, after grading their math lessons, I worked out a game plan for tomorrow to give them more drill on their fractions.  Also took care of answering the door quite a few times.  Still wasn’t able to get cookies made today because of people coming to the door at the time when that job was to be done.  I did manage to get a pot of rice and soup beans put on the wood stove to cook for supper.

As soon as the generator was turned on this evening, Wilson came in for his Bible school lesson.  I was trying to sort through some of the old crayons the students had given back in exchange for a new box.  Sorted out the good ones from the broken ones to see if I could make up some other sets of crayons with the good ones.  After that, I printed out math pages for the students for tomorrow.  I’m going to let them redo the first page of the lesson they did today and see if they can do better.  Also printed new covers for three of the students’ song books.

“14Do all things without murmurings and disputings: 15That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; 16Holding forth the word of life….”  Philippians 2:14-16

July 25.  7:15 p.m.  Daddy helped me do wash this evening before Bible school.  I am glad for his help as I really didn’t feel like doing laundry today.

We are thankful to God for a mostly sunny day, and no rain.  SIL came in four times today to bring cargo to people here and to take loads of coffee out.  Since the people got good money from their coffee this year, many of them have spent their money on goods from the stores in town.  A lot of it is being spent on buying brides too.  And, sadly, a lot is being thrown away on gambling.

Shortly after I had eaten breakfast this morning, I started feeling sick to my stomach.  Thought I was going to lose all my breakfast, but a couple doses of activated charcoal prevented that.  Thank the Lord for that.  Still wondered if I would make it through teaching this morning.  Am grateful to the Lord for his help and strength to finish out the day.  Didn’t eat much the rest of the day and took activated charcoal several more times throughout the day.  This evening, I fixed myself some plain rice.  Had cooked a pot of rice with soup beans, onions, and tuna last night, but that didn’t seem like a thing that would make my stomach too happy.

There apparently is a lot of sickness going around.  Sunny has not come back to school since she went home sick on Wednesday.  Sosthenes was not here the first part of the morning today as he was not feeling well.  He came in after recess.  And Graham went home sick at the beginning of the afternoon class.

Even though the sun was shining today, I felt chilled so crawled under the covers for my afternoon nap.

“Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord.”  Philippians 3:1

Time to Plan for School Fun Day

July 21.  Another all-day chilly, cloudy, rainy day, with the wood fire still going, but the firewood is running low. Will see if some of the school students will chop some for us tomorrow.

Today was the beginning of the 11th school week.  Two more weeks after this before the end of the term.  Last night after writing in the journal, I started planning some games for fun day.

“1Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; 2And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.”  Epehsians 5:1,2

July 22.  9:00 p.m.  Just finished dishes.  It has been a busy day.  And another cold, wet day too.  The wood stove has been going all day again.  The fog hung around until late morning.  MAF tried to get in, and finally managed to get in here late this afternoon.  They came to get Rose and a load of coffee.  The pilot said that Wabo, the other side of Karimui, has not had any sunshine for two months.  I think we are trying to catch up to them.  I guess the people who predicted a drought for PNG for this year didn’t have any inside information from the Creator and Controller of the universe.

Both Bethuel and Esau were late for school this morning.  All the students were ready to say their new Bible verse today.  It was a short one and pretty simple - Psalm 66:18.  They are moving ahead pretty quickly in their phonics and reading now, but having quite a hard time grasping all the new concepts they are learning about fractions in math class.

Was hoping to get some computer work done this afternoon; but after I finished the grading, I tried to think of some other things I could have the students do to help them learn their fractions better. Then I got some things put on the chalkboard before going to the kitchen to make pizza for supper.

As soon as Daddy turned on the generator this evening, I had my bath before the house got too cold.  Even with the wood stove going, the house cools down quickly in the evening.  After that, I made up a social studies worksheet with questions about rivers and lakes in PNG and Australia.  The lesson in the book teaches on rivers and lakes in North America, but thought it would be more profitable and more interesting for them to learn about their own area of the world.  Also scanned a map of Australia so I could print out copies for the students.  Had printed out PNG maps earlier so put the Australia maps on the backs.

After that I did the dishes and then got my snack.

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.”  Ephesians 6:10

Chilly Days!

July 19.  9:15 p.m. already.  It has been a very cold day.  It feels warmer this evening than it has all day.  When we got up this morning, it was no longer raining.  (I don’t think it rained any more during the night either.)  But it was really cold - 54º.  And it was a damp cold that seemed to go into the bones.  Although it didn’t rain today, we never did get any sunshine.  But we were thankful that it didn’t rain as we hung the clothes outside first thing this morning.

Tomas taught lotu this morning since Mike has a bad cold.  Tomas talked about seven things that must be true in our lives in order for us to know God’s will.  He also gave a good testimony about how the Lord helped him yesterday when the weather was so bad even though they had prayed for a good day for the bride-buying party.  He said that God helped him to accept the fact that it was God’s will to send rain.

Even though I had a heavy sweater and a jacket on this morning, the cold had gone through to the bones.  I just could not get warm, even with the wood stove going.  I figured the only way to get warm would be to get into bed and cover up with all the covers.  Before lotu even ended, I got up and went to bed.  I was cold all over.  And while I was there, I had a little extra sleep.  I think I understand why bears sleep in the winter.  :-)   Must have slept about an hour.

When I got up, I got the rest of the update e-mails ready to send out.  Then Daddy and I went outside for a little stretch and exercise.  It was a little bit warmer outside than in.  Peninnah had come to weed the flower garden and plant new flower seeds.

After coming back in, I got journal notes ready to send to Christy and Connie.  Put a pot of water on the wood stove to heat for spaghetti and started on C&C’s e-mail.

After dinner, Daddy went out and got the clothes in while I cleaned up the kitchen.  He also shooed away the rooster that was under the house crowing.  We didn’t want him there during our nap time again today.  Enjoyed another long nap this afternoon.

By afternoon, the wood stove had warmed the house up enough so that I could wash my hair.  Then I finished C&C’s e-mail, got a snack, and then sat down to work on lesson plans.  Spent the rest of the afternoon and part of the evening getting lesson plans written for this coming week.  After finishing the lesson plans, I cleaned the bathroom.  We also had an early bath before the bathroom got too cool.  Then I did the dishes and had a snack.  Finished up the lesson plans and then printed out the new soul-winning lessons which Daddy will probably need tomorrow evening.  That’s why I was late getting these journal notes written.

July 20.  It started out to be another very chilly, cloudy day.  We had the wood stove going all morning.  Then the Lord sent us blue sky and sunshine this afternoon, and the air warmed up and felt so good.  Thank you, Lord, for being so gracious.

After breakfast and quiet time, I got the new memory verses ready to be printed this evening and made up a Bible test to go with the next Bible lesson.

A handful of people were here at 10:00 or a little after this morning, including David, so David started the meeting with songs.

This afternoon, I revised the next few verses in John chapter 4 and started writing the next Bible lesson for school.  And this evening, I finished the plans for the musical drama for the end of school before doing some printing and scanning.  Took a break and did dishes, and now am back to writing in my journal.

“4But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) 6And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: 7That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.”  Ephesians 2:4-7

Sleeping In, Catching Up, and Trying to Stay Warm

July 9.  Praise the Lord for some sunshine today and a little bit warmer day.

Just a small group here for lotu.  Amos preached on the first four verses of Acts chapter 8.  It was a good message.

Afterward Amos and Daniel worked on laying the pipeline so we can move the people’s water tap outside the fence.  They spent a good part of the day working on that.  They have it all set up, but have to wait until tomorrow to try it out.  The glue has to set for 24 hours.  If all works well, then they will cover up the pipeline.

Sosthenes, Graham and Thania looked after the store his morning, and Bonita and Peninnah were here this afternoon.  We tried to help them learn how to use the calculator so they could be more accurate in their transactions.

I spent some time working on lessons in the computer, folded yesterdays’ clothes, sorted and folded plastic bags, burned the trash, and did other odd jobs.

“ Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness….”  II Corinthians 9:10

July 10.  Quite a bit of rain during the night. A few minutes of sunshine throughout the day, but mostly cloudy.  More rain this afternoon.  We thank the Lord for the rain.

It has been a mostly quiet day too, except for the children out playing on the “playground” here all morning and beyond.  The youth and some of the parents all went to Tainaraba today to play ball.  However, we just heard that they didn’t play today because Tainaraba was expecting them to come yesterday.  And since they didn’t come, Tainaraba wasn’t prepared for them to come today.  So they are supposed to go play tomorrow.

I didn’t get to go out for a walk today.  The ground was too muddy after the somewhat heavy rain during the night.  Spent a good part of the morning doing computer work.  Sent a couple e-mails.  We were thankful to get a good connection this morning even though the weather was very foggy.  Printed out a large map of PNG, a little less than 2 x 3 feet.  The students are going to be studying major rivers and cities in social studies, but the book teaches those in North America.  I think it would be more profitable for them to learn about those in their own country and neighboring Australia.

After I shut down the computer, I put the parts of the map together and started coloring it.  Before lunch, I started making some coconut mandarin cookie bars and some whole wheat crackers.  After we ate, I got those ready to go into the oven.  When they were done baking, we had our nap (about 2:00).

After nap, I finished coloring/painting the map.  By then, it was just about supper time.  Washed out the pressure cooker since we finished up the soup today (except for about a cupful which is now in the fridge) and put yesterday’s greens in it to bring up to pressure.  After supper, I washed up the other bunch of greens that Yerontse brought us yesterday afternoon.  Will cook those up this evening after I wash the big frypan.

“(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.)”  II Corinthians 10:4

July 11.  Rain during the night and rain almost all day today.  Daddy has had the wood stove going today.  We are grateful for a little warmth in this chilly, damp weather.  It is a blessing to have the rain since the rivers and streams were getting pretty low. However, we are asking the Lord for a little sunshine too.  Even when we didn’t get rain, there wasn’t much sunshine.

People went back to Tainaraba today to play ball since they didn’t play yesterday.  I don’t know how many made it back for Bible school.  Daddy is out there teaching now.

Slept in a little later this morning.  Made a few more pancakes for my breakfast since I only had one left.  Had quiet time and exercise time.  Wrote an e-mail.  Got rid of some old mail from the inbox.  Swept the bedroom and washed the floor.  Washed the floor in the kitchen area too.  Made spaghetti for dinner.

Had just a short nap today.  Afterward I worked quite a while on the drama for this year’s closing program for school.  That won’t be until mid-November, but we really need to be practicing the music now.

When I was ready for a break from the computer, I changed the sheets on the bed and got the clothes sorted out for doing laundry this evening.  Just finished doing laundry, and after a little rest, I’ll get my bath before the house gets any colder.

“13For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.  14And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.  15Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.”  II Corinthians 11:13-15

A Lesson in Honesty

7/19/2014

Note:  I included the story of the school students in this post to give a glimpse into the Owena culture.  It is not the custom for people to express what they really feel or want.   Rather, it is custom to tell another person what they think that person wants to hear so as not to hurt that person’s feelings, even if they do not plan to carry through on it with their actions.  In this post, the school students learn that honesty pays.  In the end, the students were happy, and Mom was happy that they were happy.

In America, we often do the same thing.  We don’t like to hurt other people’s feelings.  But, it is true for us as well, honesty pays.

July 7.  It has been a chilly, mostly rainy day.  We are thankful for the rain.  We did get to go outside for a while mid-morning and get some exercise and fresh air.

Not long before school this morning, Sosthenes came to ask if there was going to be school today.  He knew there was going to be school today.  What he was actually asking was, “Can we have the day off to go fishing?”  I was not surprised that somebody came and asked.  However, I was rather upset that they hadn’t come and asked yesterday or sooner so I could have time to think about it and decide what to do.  They knew at least twenty-four hours before that the whole village was planning to go down and go fishing.

By the time school was ready to begin, I had had some time to talk things over with the Lord and think things through and decide what to do.  If the whole village were down at the river and these twelve were in school, I knew they wouldn’t be concentrating on learning.  It is hard to teach when their hearts are not in learning.  So I sat down with them and asked, “How many of you want to go to the river today?”

They looked at each other, but nobody answered.  So I repeated.  One of them replied, “We’ll have school first and then we’ll go.”

“You didn’t answer my question.  How many of you want to go to the river today?”

Phinehas suggested, “Maybe we can just have school until noon and then go down.”

“You didn’t answer my question.  How many of you want to go to the river today?”

After a short silence, Bethuel piped up, “All of us.”

I was glad to finally get a straight answer.  “Okay, you all can go down and go fishing.  But next time the whole village wants to do something together, please come and let me know ahead of time so I can have time to think and make a decision.”

They agreed to do that.  So then I presented the next proposal.  I had already decided to have two weeks holiday at the end of the term instead of one.  Even if the students don’t need it, I do.  However, since their siblings and friends are all on holiday from the other schools this week, I thought they might want to have the week off to spend with them.  They liked that idea too.

Then I asked what they want to do about the store.  They said that one group will come tomorrow morning and another group in the afternoon to look after the store.

Those matters settled, they all put their books back in the cupboard and excitedly took off for the river.  I was happy that they were happy.

Wrote a couple e-mails.  Tried to send them, but we still aren’t getting reception.  Couldn’t send e-mails all day yesterday, or today either.

Made corrections on the Bible school lessons Daddy had just proofread.  Then made the students’ copy.

Then we went out for our fresh air and exercise.  The village was very quiet with everyone gone.  Daddy got a long piece of bamboo and got that big spider web and nest down from above the back porch.  After that, we just walked around.  After coming back inside, we both had a nap.

Had a little while to work on the next soul-winning lesson until dinner time.  There was a little bit of chicken ‘n’ rice left over so I added some flour, oil, and seasonings and made patties for our dinner.  Then we had another nap.  :-)  I think we must have been tired today.

This afternoon, I worked more on the soul-winning lesson and got that pretty much finished up this evening.

After supper, Daddy started the fire because it had gotten quite chilly and damp in here.  I put a little water on to heat for bath so I could wash up before it got much colder.

Printed out the new Bible school lessons for Wilson, and now he is here having Bible school.

The people never did get to go fishing.  The water was too muddy from all the rain.

“Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”  II Corinthians 7:1

July 8.  We didn’t hurry to get up this morning.  It was a little after 6:00.  After having breakfast and quiet time, I sorted out the laundry.  Then Daddy turned on the generator and we washed clothes.  We praise the Lord for a nice morning to hang clothes and partly sunny weather for the clothes to dry.

After the clothes were hung, I was ready to sit down for a while.  Finished up the next soul-winning lesson, and will print out a copy this evening for Daddy to proofread.

Peninnah and Dallas came and looked after the store.

A little before 11:00, I started getting veggies ready to make soup for dinner.  Peeled and washed taters, washed carrots, skinned an onion.  Then I diced up the onion and browned it with beef mince and herbs and spices.  Added water to the pot and a couple beef bouillion cubes, and diced up the taters and carrots.  By then it was already noon, and was going on 12:30 before our soup was ready.  When the soup was done, I added soy sauce and seaweed and a can of peas.  We enjoyed our soup for lunch.

After lunch, Daddy went out and got the clothes off the line.  After the kitchen was cleaned up, I went out and brought in the hang-up clothes.  Then we had our nap.

This afternoon was spent working on the next Bible lesson for school.  Have that finished except for applications.

Esau came early to look after the store, and Daddy helped him when customers came.  A little after 3:00, Sunny showed up so the two of them worked together until 5:00.

“For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.”  II Corinthians 8:9

Painting the Chalkboard and Oiling the Woodstove

Sorry, this picture is not from Owena. :-)  Due to technical issues, including losing everything on my back-up, I do not have very many new pictures for this blog at the moment.  Hopefully that will be remedied soon.

July 5.  Rained a little bit during the night.  No sunshine today, but it wasn’t too cold.

Slept in a little later this morning - got up about 6:10.  Very few people here for lotu this morning.  Mike spoke on the Christian family, giving the introduction, bringing out that it takes hard work to build a good marriage, and the husband and wife need to work hard and pray together to build a strong marriage.

After lotu Mike and Sosthenes started sanding down the chalkboard.  Dallas came in after a while and helped.  After they sanded it down and wiped it off with dry rags, I washed it.  And after it was dry, Daddy put a coat of paint on it.  This afternoon he put a second coat on.  Now the chalkboard is black instead of green.  We have to wait 24 hours for it to dry before using it.

I got journal notes ready for Christy and Connie, and then and e-mail to go with the notes.  Then I took a break and went outside a while.  Didn’t get to stay out very long, however, because it started drizzling.  After coming back in, I oiled the wood stove (it was getting pretty rusty) and then cleaned the bathroom.  Then put dinner on to warm.  I was thankful for a nice nap.

After nap, I put some water on the stove to heat for washing my hair.  Then I cut up a couple popo.  Cut one into small pieces and put in a pan to cook for my fruit syrup for pancakes this coming week.  Cut the other one up into larger pieces and put it in a bowl for us to eat fresh.  By then my hair water was hot so I got my hair washed.  Also put eggs on to boil for egg salad this evening.  Daddy put another coat of paint on the chalkboard.  The rest of the afternoon was spent at the computer - wrote a couple e-mails and then worked on the quarterly income report until supper time.

Sent out the e-mails after cleaning up the kitchen.  Daddy is waiting now for Wilson to come for Bible school.

“14For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: 15And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.”  II Corinthians 5:14,15

July 6.  A minute or two of sunshine now and then.  Otherwise very cloudy and cool.

I was suddenly awakened from a dream this morning by a voice that said, “It’s 6:00.”   I finally woke up, but it took me a while to get started getting breakfast.  Not because of the [strange] dream, but because I kept sneezing.  Finally had Daddy’s breakfast on the table about 7:30, and it was a little after 8:00 when I got mine.

After my breakfast and quiet time, Daddy turned on the generator for a while.  I wrote an e-mail and tried to send it, but no connection.  So I finished getting the next Bible school lesson organized into outline form.  Just had the questions left to do at the end, which I did this afternoon.

It was between 10:35 and 10:40 before the meeting started this morning.  They had gone for outreach in Marivo today.  Matthew preached this morning on II Corinthians 10:7-11.  And this afternoon, David preached on the temptation of Eve.

This afternoon, I wrote some math problems on the newly painted chalkboard.  It didn’t seem like the paint was quite dry enough, however, so I hope it will be okay.  Maybe in this damp, cloudy weather, it didn’t dry as fast as it was supposed to.

Then I cut apart the speed drills I had printed out, and also tore speed drills and math tests out of the booklets.  After that I turned on the computer and tried again to send the e-mail.  No go.  So I got the questions written for the Bible school lesson and then started working on fixing up copies of the coming math lessons for the three students. I had scanned them last night.

After supper, I played keyboard for about a half hour.  Then tried once again to send the e-mail, but still no connection.

A Long Day

July 3.  Almost 7:30.  Another cloudy day but not as cold as yesterday.

Had just a little time to write a couple e-mails before school this morning.  There was quite a bit of work to grade today so didn’t get time to work on the computer this afternoon.  After making sure that things were ready for school tomorrow, I did take a few minutes to practice keyboard before going to the kitchen to make biscuits for my supper.  I really need to practice keyboard a bit more before tomorrow.  Maybe I will have a little time to do that after Wilson’s Bible school class is over.

At 5:30, Daddy started the generator, and we ate and did laundry, and I almost forgot to keep an eye on my biscuits.

“Is any thing too hard for the LORD?”  Genesis 18:14a

July 4.  9:00 p.m.  It has been a long day.  Up early to hang out clothes.  Some rain had fallen during the night, and the lines were wet.  Hardly enough rain to make the ground wet though.

The students did not do well on their Bible verse review this morning so we spent quite a bit of time going over and over the verses.  Then we reviewed a bit of music, and I gave them a test.

We had our lunch and they had theirs.  We had bought a nice big watermelon yesterday so we gave a little over half of it to the students to share and eat with their lunch.

After lunch, we had spelling quiz and English class.  When English class was over, they told me they were all supposed to go over to Pinata with Matthew today to sing for the public preaching there.  So there was no sale today.

Daddy and I had our nap.  Then we ate the rest of the watermelon.  I kept busy the rest of the afternoon grading today’s work, recording grades, making lesson plans for next week, and preparing a meal.  Tonight we had chicken ‘n’ rice and carrots.

After I got the kitchen cleaned up, I worked on lesson plans until those were finished.  Then I did the dishes and got my snack.  So that is why I am late writing in my journal.

Note: I admit to having a little fun with the pictures.  :-)

July 2.  A very chilly day and lots of clouds.  Daddy started the wood stove later in the morning when we saw that the day was not likely to warm up.

While I was waiting (for lotu to start), I organized all the sale stuff so the things they would need to start with were all in two boxes, and all the extra things were set aside,.

Amos finished Acts 7 last week and taught this morning on how, in the first seven chapters of Acts, God gives opportunity once again for the Jews to enter into His kingdom.  However, they rejected God’s Word, God’s prophets, and God’s Son.

After school today, Sunny stayed and ground rice for rice cereal and corn for corn meal.  Graham, Phinehas, and Steve chopped firewood.

We didn’t get to nap until Sunny was done grinding grains so only had a short nap today.  At 3:00 it was time for some of the students to be here to open the store.

I didn’t have a lot of grading to do today so had a little time to work on the computer before getting supper.  First I got the new Bible lesson set up in the students’ file so it would be ready to print this evening.  Then I finished up the June progress report and started proofreading it.  Need to finish that shortly.

A little before 5:00, I started making pizza for our supper.

After getting the kitchen cleaned up, I printed out the Bible lessons and just finished a few minutes ago getting them into the students’ folders.

“And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.”  Genesis 17:1

First Day of the Second Half of the Year

June 30.  Almost 9:00 p.m.  Just finished dishes and got my snack.  Now it’s time to sit down again.

The day started out nice and sunny - such a nice morning the Lord gave us.  Later in the day, He sent clouds and cool winds.

Didn’t have much time this morning before school to do anything.  We got up a little bit later than we had planned because neither of us woke up at the right time.

Afternoon class went a little longer than usual because the students needed some drill and extra teaching on the alphabet and dictionary.  It was about 2:15 when we lay down, and I only slept a half hour or less.

After nap, I finished up today’s grading - just had spelling lessons left to do - and got things ready for tomorrow.  Then I made sure everything was ready for printing this evening.  Had to finish a test to go with the next Bible lesson so I could print out that lesson and proofread it.

After supper, I did quite a bit of printing - math lessons, math pasteovers, copies of Bible test for tomorrow, copies of music test for Friday, and above-mentioned Bible lesson.  After the printing, I did the proofreading of the Bible lesson.  Daddy was having Bible school with Wilson.

After Wilson left, I put dishwater on to heat and practiced keyboard while it was heating.  Will probably have time after their Bible test tomorrow to do some singing.

“5And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.  6And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.”  Genesis 15:5,6

July 1.  The first day of the second half of this year.  Wow!  Where does the time go?

It is 7:15 p.m.  Daddy is teaching the Bible school class.  I just finished sorting out the sale stuff for the school so they can start their sale tomorrow.  Daddy worked with the students this morning in place of their last class, deciding on prices for everything.

It has been quite a cool, cloudy day.

After Daddy started the generator this morning, I got the five promises verses printed out for Esau.  Then I worked on revising Jon 4:16-30 as I’ll be using those verses for their next Bible lesson.  Had a few minutes left before school when that was done so punched holes in the new math lessons that I printed out last night and cut up the pasteovers.

After we prayed, sang, reviewed, and recited verses, I gave the students some time to study the Bible lesson we finished yesterday, and then gave them their test.

While Daddy was working with the students at the end of the morning, I prepared the other broccoli and a few more carrots and put those on to cook for our dinner.  When they were almost done, I put the leftover spaghetti and sauce on to warm up.

We had early nap and slept for a little over an hour.  I thought I would have some extra time this afternoon to work on the computer.  However, after I finished grading their math lessons, it took quite a while to get the new lessons put into the three notebooks, make some changes in the textbooks and glue in pasteovers, write some things on the chalkboard for tomorrow, and get everything together for tomorrow’s classes.

Just had a few minutes after that to fix up the advertisement for the school sale before getting supper ready.

Right after supper and getting the kitchen cleaned up, I put water on for my bath.  It had been cold all day, and was getting colder, so wanted to get a bath early before it got too cold.  While the bath water was heating, I printed out the advertisements.  After bath, I put one of them up in the schoolroom.

“11Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.  12For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.”  II Corinthians 1:11,12

Fear Not... I Am Thy Shield, and Thy Exceeding Great Reward

June 28.  9:30 p.m.  Just had bath.  Almost forgot to write in journal.

We were up early this morning so we could go out and hang clothes before breakfast.

Sosthenes came early and was busy cleaning out the ditches until time for lotu.

It was late, as it has been, when lotu started.    There weren’t very many here today.  Tomas continued speaking on “God’s will”.  His text was Philippians 2:13.  Then he went to Hebrews 13:1-3 to show some things that are God’s will for us believers.  The youth asked prayer for some kind of problem they were having.  They were supposed to go do some kind of work for someone after the meeting.

When everyone was gone, I sat down to do more work on lesson plans.  And then I planned to get the journal notes ready to send to Christy and Connie.  However, Daddy started the generator so I worked on the journal notes first.  That is, after I printed out a copy of the next soul-winning lesson for Daddy to proofread.  Then we went outside for a little fresh air.  Took down the clothes that were dry so we wouldn’t have to hurry later if the rain came.  It was a mostly cloudy day again.  Then we walked around and checked over Sosthenes’ work.

After dinner, we had our nap.  I was thankful for no flies today and a more restful nap.

This afternoon, I got the math lesson plans done.  Then started an e-mail for Christy and Connie.  After supper, I finished up the e-mail, made corrections in the soul-winning lesson, got the students’ lessons set up and copies printed out.

Wilson came for Bible school, and then Matthew came with the youth to practice music for outreach tomorrow.

“….and there Abram called on the name of the LORD.”  Genesis 13:4b

June 29.  The day started with sunshine, then turned to clouds, then sunshine again, then clouds again, then a warm sunny afternoon, and cloudy again now.  I was thankful that it was warm and sunny this afternoon as I needed to wash my hair.

After breakfast and quiet time this morning, Daddy turned on the generator, and I got some lessons ready in the math file.  Printed out some drills to add to the three students’ folders.  Close to 10:00, I turned off the computer in order to be ready for church.  It was very quiet around here, however.  We hadn’t seen people come back up from outreach at Ahnyauntapeq.  While I was waiting, I folded a few clothes so Daddy could get all his town clothes put away.  Had my protein drink.  Got things together for tomorrow’s classes.  Went outside for a little sunshine.

After our lunch, I had a nap, and Daddy had a cat nap in the recliner.  I was up before they finished the singing of the afternoon meeting and was in the meeting for the preaching time.  This afternoon, Matthew went back to preaching from II Corinthians, starting with the first two verses of chapter 10.  He made quite a few cross-references to both apostle Paul and Christ, showing times when they were meek and gentle and times when they spoke boldly against wrong-doing.

After lotu, I washed my hair.  Then I made up a music test for school, before making our spaghetti supper.

“After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.”  Genesis 15:1
