Special Prayer Request

Hello, everyone!  We got this email from Mom this morning.  Please be in prayer about this.  Thank you so much.

"How are you today?  We didn’t expect to write again so soon, but we have a special prayer request.  We are scheduled to go to town on Wednesday.  However, we have been getting lots and lots and lots of rain; and the airstrip is very wet.  MAF came in today and promptly closed the airstrip.  NTM Aviation called Daddy to let us know what had happened.  The people are supposed to work all day Monday and finish cutting the grass, fill in the deep ruts that the MAF plane made, and put shale at the top of the strip to cover the soft ground.  Still, if we keep getting this much rain, the strip will be too wet for the plane to come.  NTM was doing all they could to find a way to get us out.  They have helicopter flights scheduled for this area Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday; and we could get on one of those flights.  Please have people pray that the Lord will give us several days of dry sunny weather before Wednesday, or extra finances for the helicopter."

People Is What This Work Is All About

January 10.  Tomas came last evening to talk for a while.  He and his family have been talking over the things they are learning in soul-winning class and looking at their own lives to be sure that they are saved.

This morning, I finished sorting out all of Connie’s clothes and a few other items.  Also answered the door umpteen times.  Daddy started working on the sink cabinet for Connie’s bathroom and worked on that almost all day.

About mid-morning, I got busy stapling the booklets together that I printed and cut last night.  We really need to make some shelves in the meeting room so we have a place to put out tracts, Bibles, and booklets.

Before I started getting dinner, I went outside for a while and soaked up a bit of sunshine.  Fixed pumpkin, and rice with lentils for dinner.

Enjoyed a good nap, and then started working on the kidznewzletter.  A couple groups of kids came in to color too.

“8And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; 9And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.”  Acts 15:8,9

January 11.  It was very cool and cloudy most of the day today.  We kept the wood stove going until about mid-morning.

Today was supposed to be laundry day, but since it is also lotu day, we decided to wait until tomorrow to do laundry so I can get started earlier in the morning.  I am glad we waited too because it started raining right after lotu.

People came late for lotu this morning.  There weren’t very many here.  A lot of people are still sick, and more people are getting sick.  Daddy continued teaching on “Sios I Gat Glori,” (A Glorious Church), starting the section on pastors and deacons.  Tomas took charge of the prayer time.  Matyu and family are apparently in Marivo.  Haven’t seen them around since Sunday.

After lotu, Daddy worked more on Connie’s bathroom sink cupboard, and I finished going through her things.  After snack, I turned on the computer and tried writing the newsletter.  In two hours time, however, I barely got anything done.  Just about every five minutes, I had to get up and answer the door.  Whew!  What a busy morning!  I was really getting frustrated there for a while and had to stop and ask the Lord to help me remember that people is what this work is all about.  I was letting Daddy keep working on the sink cupboard, but we decided it would be better if we just take turns answering the door.  A couple times, we both had to go to a door as there were people at both doors at the same time.  Was thankful for leftovers for dinner.

Sipora was one of the people who came.  She wanted to show me the quilt she had made from some of the scraps of material I had given her.  What a quilt!  Family size!  She was going to take it to Marivo and try to market it for K40.  She will use the money for her school fees for this coming year.

Tomas and Amos came and got tracts, John books, and Genesis books to take over to Marivo and give out while the basketball games were going on and at market.

My nap got shortened by a tickle in my throat causing me to cough.  After nap, I worked for a while putting up pictures around the kitchen and office areas.  Then I sat down to work again on the newsletter.  I’m thankful that, this afternoon, there weren’t quite so many interruptions.

This evening folks are here for soul-winning class.

“31And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.  32And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.  33And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.  34And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.”  Acts 16:31-34

Church Meetings

January 8.  No rain last night.  The Lord gave us some nice sunshine today, but the air is still somewhat cool.  It was a blessing that people came early for lotu today, and we were able to get started early.  Amos led the singing today.  Tomas interpreted, and Daddy continued preaching on Romans 1:2, with some review of verse 1, and then going on to verse three, talking about renewing of the mind.  Three ladies came at the invitation, including Erisapet’s mother.  Daddy had Matyu ask her afterward if she needed someone to help her.  Haven’t heard anything back.

Daddy and I had our dinner, and then called people for the afternoon meeting.  It was our understanding that people wanted time to give testimonies so we left that meeting open for testimonies.  Matyu, however, was the only one who gave a testimony, and then Daddy.  Since there was nobody else, Daddy read and reviewed again 1 Peter 4:12-19.  A lot of people were tired because of colds or other illness.  Some were back in church for the first time in a while after being sick.

After nap, I worked on checking songs.  Made quite a few revisions on some of the Sunday school songs to make them a bit more simple and not so long.

“17Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee: 18Thou shewest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of hosts, is his name, 19Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.”  Jeremiah 32:17-19

January 9.  A few sprinkles today, but mostly sunshine.  We thank the Lord for sunshine and hope that it will help some of the sickness to go down.  Almost everybody has bad colds (probably flu) and some have other ailments as well.

Had a good group out for soul-winning class last night and good questions asked.

This morning after breakfast and quiet time, Daddy helped me move boxes out of the storage closet into Connie’s room.  Then Justin and Wamara came to work.  There really wasn’t much for them to work with today.  Only enough ooqdi for the bottom of the pitpit wall in our bedroom.  So we moved boxes out of our bedroom, and they went to work on that.  While they were doing that, I sorted and washed greens for dinner.  I was hoping to work at the computer the second half of the morning; but since the bed had to be pulled out for the men to border the bottom of the wall, we figured it was the best time for me to scrub that wall.  The bed is very heavy, and we did not want to have to move it out again.  So I scrubbed until almost dinner time, and Daddy helped cut off loose ends of pitpit.  Then I put the greens on to cook. Scrubbed a little more.  Then warmed up the leftover fish patties and uxai.  After dinner, I finished scrubbing the one section that was left.  Then we lay down for our nap — about 1:30.  Both of us zonked out, and it was after 2:30 when we woke up.

I got out the popos to see which one needed to be cut up next.  One was going bad so I washed it and made it into a popo crisp.  While that was cooking, I wrote an e-mail to Connie and Christy.  By the time I finished that, it was just about time to get supper.

“2Thus saith the LORD the maker thereof, the LORD that formed it, to establish it; the LORD is his name; 3Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”  Jeremiah 33:2,3

Work on the House and the Generator Shed

1/13/2012

January 6.  Another very cool, cloudy, damp day.  A little bit of rain this afternoon.  I was thankful to be feeling a wee bit better today.  This weather, however, does not help at all in getting well.  And Daddy feels like his cold is coming back again.  A lot of people around the village have bad colds like this.  It must be some type of flu.

Today was laundry day.  It was so nice to be able to hang the clothes outside for the first time in almost three months.

After laundry, I cleaned the washing machine filter.  I had noticed lint on some of the clothes when I hung them up so figured the filter needed to be cleaned out.  Then I scrubbed the pitpit wall on the side of the laundry room cupboard and put up some nails for hanging the shovel, rake, mop, and brooms.  After that, I worked on the outreach notes for a while, and was late getting dinner started.  Made mashed potatoes/Singapore (similar to white yualita) for the two of us.  Had leftover pumpkin and greens for veggies.  Cooked up the corn Erisapet’s mother had brought the other day.  It was supposedly soft corn, and I was hoping to have a piece, but none of them were soft.  So the corn went to the workers for lunch, along with some cookies.

Wamara went and got more ooqdi this morning.  He and Justin bordered more walls in the house.  Daniel and Puki bordered the outside of Connie’s windows.  Wan made a raised bed in the generator shed so we can store some things out there that are just cluttering up the house.

After dinner, I went out and took down the clothes.  Daddy went for his nap.  He hadn’t gotten a nap the past few days and was getting tired out.  I was working on folding clothes when Daddy got up.  Then it was my turn for nap.  After nap, I finished up the outreach lesson and got it ready for printing. Don’t know if I’ll get a chance to print things tonight, but can do that tomorrow night.  Will probably do the teacher’s copy, at least, so Daddy will have time to study before Sunday night.

Then it was time to get supper, eat, and do dishes.

Daddy got the light in Connie’s room wired up this afternoon so there is light in there now; and this evening, we laid the linoleum in her room.  Just got finished with that about a half hour ago.

“But the word of God grew and multiplied.”  Acts 12:24

January 7.  The weather turned quite cold last night, and I wondered if we would see clear skies when we got up this morning.  We did.  The skies were perfectly clear.  The only clouds we saw was thick fog down in the valley.  The temperature outside was 54º, the coldest it has been in some time.  By noon, however, the skies had become almost completely cloudy, with some blue patches here and there.  Then the sun came out more again later in the afternoon, and this evening there was pink and purple sunset among the gray clouds — very beautiful.

Early morning lotu.  Not too many here.  A lot of people are sick.  Erisapet’s mother was here again, however.  She has been coming to most of the meetings and knows that we have been praying for her to be saved.  The men had planned after the meeting to finish taking down the temporary shelter they had built for the special meetings, but they just weren’t feeling up to it.

After lotu, I started taking canned goods, jars, and vitamins out of boxes and organizing them on the shelves in the storage room.  I am happy not to have to search through boxes now to find things.  Then I hung the curtains in the storage room doorway.

Erisapet and Repeka came and washed the walls in Connie’s bedroom.  The next step will be to build a closet, desk, and shelves, finish installing the toilet in her bathroom, and put in the sink cupboard.

At 11:00, we called Christy and Connie and enjoyed a little chat with them.  Erisapet was excited that she got to say hello to Connie.

After that, I fixed fish patties and uxai with onions for our dinner.  Daddy took boxes of ooqdi chips out to the generator shed to store out there.  I went out for a look and took one small box out.  Wan had done a nice job on the raised bed he made.

We had a fairly long nap which we both needed.  After nap, I cut up a popo and washed my hair.  Then I wrote announcements for tomorrow and started writing up a ministry update.  Swept Connie’s bedroom, and Daddy and I moved the bed into its place.

After supper, I used the dish water to wash the kitchen floor.  Then put the mattress on Connie’s bed before getting to the computer and finishing up the ministry update.

“And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the LORD….  For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul.”  Jeremiah 31:14,25   These verses were a special comfort today.

Encouraging the Believers in the Work

1/13/2012

Well, here are Mom's journal notes - from January 4th through January 11th.  These notes will be uploaded in three posts.   Items marked in bold are special prayer request.  Thank you for continuing to pray that God will build a strong church in Owena, Papua New Guinea.

January 4.  No rain last night or today, but still lots of clouds and wind, with periods of sunshine and some blue sky.

Just a small group here for lotu this morning.  Erisapet’s mother was here, and Erisapet continues to ask prayer for her salvation.  After the meeting, Daddy talked with the men about visiting regular attendees (especially those who exhibit a desire to be a part of church ministries) and helping them to understand the need for becoming members.  He also sought to encourage Eric to stand up boldly before the people when he reads the Scripture and to ask the Lord to help him not to think about what people think of him.  He also asked Mike to take turns with Eric in Scripture reading.

After the meeting, I swept the office and kitchen areas.  Then organized and moved more shop stuff out of Connie’s room.  I didn’t do much though before I got too tired.  I am really wiped out with this cold.  Next I got e-mails in, and then wrote e-mails to Pastor Surret and Pastor Ogle.  We couldn’t get connection for sending them, however.  Did a little more organizing and moving stuff before warming up dinner.  Before we got to lie down for nap, Wan came to make the clothesline so Daddy and I went out to help him know where to place it and how big to make it.  Then Justin and Wamara came to work on the gates.  Wenke was here weaving pitpit, but he often watches the door for us while we nap.  I finally got my nap, but Daddy didn’t get to have one.  He was tired too.

Felt a little better after nap and got journal notes ready to send to Christy and Connie.  Then wrote them an e-mail.  Was finally able to get a connection and send off all the e-mails.  Did more organizing and moving things.  We are trying hard to get everything out of Connie’s room so we can get it finished.

I waited a while for Daddy to come in for supper, but he was helping the men finish up the clothesline and gates so I finally ate by myself.  While I was eating, I started on some introductory notes for starting the actual outreach ministry.  While Daddy was eating, I did the dishes.  Then there was printing to do — more booklets for the witnessing class, Bible memory verse cards to give out to the students, a copy of the gospel of Matyu for Mike.

People are here this evening for class, and Daddy is out there teaching them.  I have plenty of work to do at the computer this evening.

“35But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.   36The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)”  Acts 10:35,36

January 5.  Rained most of the night, but the Lord gave us a dry day today with some sunshine too.  I have not felt well at all today.  Started on amoxicillin last night because I wasn’t feeling well.  Have had this cold over two weeks, and nothing seemed to be helping.  But then I felt worse today — probably should have kept taking all the supplements as well as the amoxicillin.

This morning, after breakfast and quiet time, Daddy and I got busy in Connie’s bedroom.  Got her bathroom swept out and stacked all the plywood and lumber in there.  Sorted out all the small wood pieces into boxes of different sized pieces and stacked those boxes in the bathroom too.  Daddy pulled out nails and took out screws that were in some pieces of lumber.  Stacked all the ooqdi and poles in the meeting room for the men to put under the house when they came to work.  Daddy put braces on Connie's bed, as it was getting somewhat rocky.

Justin and Wamara spent a long time trying to level the floor out as much as they could.  Tomorrow morning, Daddy and I will try to lay the linoleum.  Then on Saturday, Erisapet and Repeka plan to scrub the walls.

This afternoon, Justin and Wamara put ooqdi around the pitpit on the side of the laundry room cupboard.  They also helped Wenke put up the pieces he had ready to go above the doorways.

Wan worked on the roof a bit, putting hydroseal on the chimney so water wouldn’t leak down inside.  He also dug a ditch around the generator shed, closer to the shed to keep the rain from going inside.

Mid-morning I worked for a while on the introductory notes for outreach.  Then I made a casserole for dinner with all the leftovers, fixed up a pot of greens (some for us and some for the workers), and a pot of rice for the workers.

After nap, I sent an e-mail Daddy had written and then worked more on the outreach notes.  Taro came and pulled weeds.

After supper, Apekio came to visit a little while.

“23Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.  24For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.”  Acts 11:23,24

Special Little Pleasures

Well, it has been a very long time since I have updated.  This has been due to some things that have been going on, including computer problems.  The moral to that story seems to be, “If it’s electronic, don’t let me touch it!”  :-)

It was exciting to receive a CD from Mom the other day.  This CD contained quite a few photos, so those will be fun to share over the next few weeks.

During the month of December, Dad and Mom were able to go out to the town of Goroka where they enjoyed a little time of rest and also stocked up on supplies.  This time they were out the Lord allowed them to see something special.  Mom says, “Oh, yes, we saw something very interesting when we got up this morning and looked out the front window — a horse in the park across the street.  A very pretty horse.  We wondered why it was there without a soul around.  Nobody went near it for a long time.  Later in the morning, we saw some boys pulling small bunches of grass and trying to feed the horse.  They were afraid to get close enough at first for the horse to get it.  Finally one boy went close enough for the horse to eat out of his hand.  He got so excited, he nearly did a handstand.  After a while, he got a little braver, and was able to pet the horse.  The boys didn’t stay around long, and the horse was left alone again.  When we went downstairs to get keys for the van so we could go shopping, Daddy asked the security guard and the office worker about the horse.  The office worker said it belongs to a fat man, and he will come get it after a while.  Just as we were done in the office, the owner came and got ready to ride the horse away.  The man didn’t look very fat to us.”

Isn’t God good?  He even cares about special little pleasures.

Thank you all for stopping by and reading.  Thank you for praying.  God bless you!
