Getting Settled In

October 21.  Praise the Lord for a pretty good night’s sleep last night.  It’s a lot colder up here on the mountain — just a hair over 50º this morning.  But the sun shone brightly again in no time, and the day soon got very, very warm — up to 92º.

Yesterday most of the men thought about not coming today because they didn’t think there was enough bamboo to do anything with.  Daddy had asked that just two or three come to help him with some other jobs.  However, Nandana and Paqo brought bamboo, and eventually all of the men showed up.  They got the section of north wall done to finish Connie’s room.  Now there is just one more section of north wall — the living room, and a little section of west wall on the entry side of the living room.  Then we’ll need bamboo for the living room floor.  We have collected enough bits and pieces of pitpit wall to cover the floor temporarily so that we can start meeting here this Sunday.  What a blessing that will be!  David is going to come tomorrow and make steps for the front veranda where the people will come inside.  He is here tonight for Bible school — his last night.  We will present him his certificate in a coming church meeting and try to have a fellowship dinner that Sunday.

Eron was the errand boy today.  That seems to be the best job for him.  He went back and forth to Kelly’s house half dozen times and brought up lumber for cupboards, window frames, etc.  He found our rolly cart, and later he and David washed it up, and I set it up in the kitchen next to the stove.

Besides overseeing the men, Daddy got the kitchen cupboard doors put on today, and the rest of the counter top.  I covered the counter top with linoleum that matches the floor.  He put some rope up in the bedroom too to hang our clothes on until he gets the closet made.  I was thankful to have a place to hang up clothes.

It was a busy day for me too — more unpacking and organizing.  Was glad to be able to start putting stuff in the cupboard.  Got all the stuff cleaned out of the storage room, and laid linoleum in there.  Moved a lot of bucketsful of stuff into there as well as some boxes of things.  Opened and emptied or set in storage all of the boxes that were in the living room.  There are still a number of boxes in the guest room that I need to go through.  Got the school table all scrubbed and set up in the office to put books and papers on until Daddy can get a desk and shelves made.

After nap today, I washed my hair at the kitchen tap.  I was amazed how hot the water was, just from the sun hitting the black pipe out in the ditch — just right for washing hair.  Tomas hasn’t gotten the pipe covered up yet.  Wonder if I would have had enough hot water for dishes too.  The water was already cooled off by supper time.

The men all left early to go to market.  There apparently is a market at Ahniyauntapeq every Friday afternoon.  We sent some money with Eron to get us some greens and pumpkin.  He sent them up later with Anselina.

“1And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: 2And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; 3And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: 4But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.  5And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.”  Isaiah 11:1-5

October 22.  Not quite as cold this morning, only down to 55º.  Got up to 92º again however.  Cooled off a little bit this afternoon, and some black clouds came up and dropped a few drops of rain.

It was another very busy day, but we were thankful to have a little more time to ourselves, and not have a houseful of workers all day.  David did come late morning and made some temporary steps (more like a ladder) for people to get into the house for the meeting tomorrow.  Matyu came and helped him.  Then they helped Daddy take the generator outside and try it out so it will be ready for washing clothes on Monday morning.  They couldn’t get it working right (there seemed to be air in the fuel line); but Daddy let it rest for a while, while he had his dinner and we had a nap.  Then he tried it again, and it worked fine.  So we praise God for that!

Daddy framed a couple windows today too.  Now we just need to find the curtain rod hardware so we can put up curtains.  I got most of the rest of the dining area cleared of boxes.  Sorted and prepared greens for dinner — that always takes a long time.

This afternoon, I wrote some toksaves in the computer for Daddy to give tomorrow in a business meeting.  Then I had to write them all out by hand since we don’t have power hooked up yet to use the printer.  We still like to keep a record of them in the computer, and later will print out and file a good copy.

I had planned to write e-mails today, but never got a chance to get to that.  Hopefully can get some written and sent out in the morning.

“1And in that day thou shalt say, O LORD, I will praise thee: though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortedst me.  2Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.  3Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.  4And in that day shall ye say, Praise the LORD, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted.  5Sing unto the LORD; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth.  6Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.”  Isaiah chapter 12.  One of my favorite chapters in the Bible and a comfort for today.

Moving Day!

October 20.  God is so gracious!  My, what a long day it has been!  I am so tired!  But I am so thankful to be now in our new home, even though it is a temporary home.  My real home is in heaven.  Won’t be long before I’ll be there.  But in the mean time, I am thankful to God for allowing us to move up here on top of the mountain.  For I while I would say, “I’ll be so thankful when….”  But I started to realize that wasn’t right.  I need to be thankful all the time in all places and all circumstances.  So every day, I would try to find as many things as I could to be thankful for.  Even if the Lord didn’t allow us to move up today, I had made up my mind to be thankful.

It was a warm night.  I had a hard time getting to sleep last night because of a very bad earache.  I finally woke Daddy up so he could put eardrops in my ear.  After that, the pain went down, and I was able to go to sleep.  Am thankful for a good sleep the rest of the night.

The day started bright and early.  Both of us were awake a little before 5:30, and we were up before 6:00.  Had an early breakfast with time in the Word.  Started on all the last minute packing.  Quite a gang of people came to help — the workers and their families, from the littlest ones up to the bigger ones.  Jerin and Anselina came and helped too.

Javin heard we were moving and came by to see us.  Daddy went in the other room with him to talk and pray with him.  He cried.  I feel so sorry for him.  He knows what is the right thing to do, but is afraid to do it.

I had Repeka come in the house and help give boxes out to the carriers.  Later Silvia came and helped too.  Some of the men were in and out getting the big items — stove, washing machine, freezer, file cabinet, desks, etc.  It took only about three hours to get everything out of the house and up the hill.  Praise the Lord for all those who came and helped!

After everybody left, I locked the house and headed up the hill by myself.  I took my time.  The trail was dry and slippery from lots of loose dirt.  I thanked the Lord for the beautiful day and the beautiful view as I stood and looked back.  And with tears in my eyes, I thanked the Lord for his graciousness.  The men worked the rest of the day at different jobs.  They finished the other piece of the east wall.  Praise the Lord!  All that is left now, as far as walls, is the north end of the house; then the living/meeting room floor.  Some of the men worked on putting a window in the office.  Later this afternoon, when the sun wasn’t too hot, some helped Daddy put the solar panel up.  Wan put hydroseal around the stove pipe where it comes through the hole in the roof.  Some helped me when I needed it.  I worked on cleaning and unpacking.  Swept and washed the bedroom floor first.  Unpacked kitchen and bedroom stuff mostly.  Cleaned the bathroom sink and cupboard, the tall kitchen cupboard, the shelf unit in our bedroom, and the kitchen sink and counter top.

At noon, I washed and peeled kaukau and Singapore (a root vegetable something like a small taro) and put them on to cook for the men.  Then I warmed up our dinner.  Severah also cooked a pot of food for the men again.  Erisapet and Matyu cooked food for those who helped dig their garden today, and she brought the extras for the men here.

“11For the LORD spake thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying,  12Say ye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid.  13Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.  14And he shall be for a sanctuary….”  Isaiah 8:11-14

Dry Days and Hard Workers

October 18.  Another very dry day.  Praise the Lord for nice weather and all those who worked!  They finished another outside wall, but didn’t have the big tape measure to measure it accurately and get it put up.  Eric has the tape measure, and he wasn’t home.

Did a bit more packing today, but there is not a whole lot more to do until tomorrow after we wash clothes and have the day’s meals.  Then we can get everything ready, except for what we’ll need Thursday morning.

About mid-morning, I went up with Daddy to the house.  Just needed something different to do. There wasn’t really a whole lot for me to do there.  Swept the kitchen floor.  Cleaned all the work supplies out of our bedroom.  Helped Daddy figure out how to place the kitchen cupboard.

Jonathan brought another pitpit wall today, and they got that put up.  Wenke finished one of Connie’s bedroom walls and got that up.  Then worked on a little piece for a small corner of the kitchen.  David and Andreas worked on getting our bathroom cupboard fixed up.  Wan and Wamara worked on the kitchen cupboard, and Wan made holes for water pipes.  Jastin dug ditches for the toilet pipe.  Amos said he was going to go get trees to cover the toilet hole (septic).  He still has a few more to get.  Hopefully he does that first thing in the morning.

At noon, Daddy and I came back down and had dinner.  Yujin came and carried water while we were eating.  This afternoon, Daddy worked on getting water pipes in.

“24Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.  25And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.  26But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.”  Mark 11:24-26

October 19.  Praise the Lord for another very lovely dry season-like day.  And for all those who worked today.  And for the Lord helping to get the septic done and the water pipes hooked up.  It is after 8:30 p.m. now.  It has been a long, long day for both of us.  I spent the day here packing, packing, and packing.  Well, I did do a few other things — laundry, quiet time, fixing meals, answering the door….  Daddy didn’t get home until around 6:00 this evening, and then he took time to get the solar panel down off the roof.  Lord willing, we will move up the hill in the morning.

“29And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: 30And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.  31And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.”  Mark 12:29-31

Scripture reading in church

October 16.  No rain last night.  Woke up to fog this morning for the first time in quite a while.  It looked like heavy fog, but in no time, it was gone.  The Lord gave us another dry day.  Dark clouds hanging around this afternoon, as the pattern has been, but no rain as yet.

In the second church meeting, David finished up the section on the office of pastor that he started last week.  After the meeting Daddy asked Eric if he would do all the Scripture reading each week.  Tomas will have to do all the translating, and he and David can take turns leading music.

“23Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.  24And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.”  Mark 9:23, 24

October 17.  Another dry day.  Thank you, Lord, for sunshine and for workers.  A group went and carried bamboo today (that Antuma had cut), but they said there wasn’t much there.  Some worked on the south half of the east wall.  Others worked with Daddy, helping him get the kitchen cupboard together.  Severah and Silvia cooked kaukau for the men today.  I spent most of the day packing and organizing.  I think most of the packing is done now, except for what will have to be done at the last minute.

“14But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.  15Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.  16And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.”  Mark 10:14-16

♪♫ Notes of Praise and Needs for Prayer

Sent by Mom on Saturday, October 22nd

♪♫  Some notes of praise:

1.      Lots of sunshine and dry weather!  This should be about the beginning of rainy season, but maybe the Lord is giving us “Indian dry season” in the midst of all the rain we have already had.
2.     A number of good workers to help
3.     On Thursday, we moved into our new house.  God is so loving and gracious!
4.     This morning, we will start having meetings here.  The floor is not made yet, but scrap pieces of pitpit wall are covering it for now.

Special needs for prayer:

1.     Material for finishing the house, and good workers to continue to come
2.     Wisdom in dealing with a difficult situation within the church

As you pray for Dad and Mom, here are some good verses to pray through.  Thank you for praying!

"Unto thee will I cry, O LORD my rock; be not silent to me: lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.  2Hear the voice of my supplications, when I cry unto thee, when I lift up my hands toward thy holy oracle.  3Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, which speak peace to their neighbours, but mischief is in their hearts. 4Give them according to their deeds, and according to the wickedness of their endeavours: give them after the work of their hands; render to them their desert. 5Because they regard not the works of the LORD, nor the operation of his hands, he shall destroy them, and not build them up. 6Blessed be the LORD, because he hath heard the voice of my supplications. 7The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. 8The LORD is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed.   9Save thy people, and bless thine inheritance: feed them also, and lift them up for ever."  Psalm 28

Preparing to Move

October 14.  About .15” rain yesterday afternoon.  Then the skies cleared up in the evening.  It was already 57º by the time we went to bed, and was a coooold 52º when we got up this morning.  That’s the coldest we’ve seen it in a long time.  The sun came out bright and warm, and it didn’t take long for the world to warm up.  I enjoyed being out in the sunshine to hang out the clothes.  By noon it was in the upper 80’s again.  When I got up from nap, however, the skies were clouded over, and we got high winds, some thunder and lightning, and a few sprinkles of rain.  The temperature dropped quickly to the upper 60’s.  Now the skies have cleared again, and the winds are still blowing so we wonder if it will be another cold night.

This morning, after hanging clothes, I did some more packing and stacking, getting boxes ready to go up the hill.  Then I sat down for a while.  Had prayer time.  Fixed up a section in the Sios I Gat Glori book, and fixed up David’s certificate because I happened to think that the previous one was under Owena Baptist.  So changed the name to Glory Independent Baptist Bible School.  Later in the morning, I cooked a couple pots of rice and fish for the workers.  Daddy had gone and bought some rice from Kelly.

While I was busy in the house, Daddy was back and forth to Kelly’s house, getting things for the workers to take up to the new house — the wood stove, cupboards, sinks, plumbing, lumber, bathtub, etc.  At noon the workers sat down out here and had their rice and fish.  Then took their last load up the hill.  A couple girls (Susi and Franseska) also took a load up, and one of Eric’s boys did as well.  In the afternoon, Daddy went up and did some work.  Amos finished the septic hole today so they can now hook up the toilet drain pipes.  Severah cooked a pot of kaukau for the men again so they had plenty to eat today.

Two planes came in today — SIL and MAF.  Not sure what they came in for.  Not sure if they brought in medical supplies or not.  Kelly said that Katrin was going to take medical supplies over to MAF.  Ekwentsi went out on MAF accompanied by his son Tom to take Ekwentsi to the Goroka hospital.  He has not been very well at all.

Daddy got the e-mails sent this evening after supper, while I was doing dishes.  Praise the Lord they sent today.  He spent a lot of time last night trying to send them.  He tried again later sending the other two (the two newsletters), but they refused to go.  So we were thankful they sent this evening.

“18Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.  19If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: 20But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.”  Isaiah 1:18-20

October 15.  David was here for Bible school last night.  He is in his last course now — Muic for God’s Glory.  He seems to be enjoying it and wants us to teach about music some time in the church.

Just before we went to bed, we saw a fire in the house cook across the way.  We wondered who was in there.  They must have seen us looking as a lady came out and said that Saina was close to delivering a baby and Janet had told them to stay there.  There were too many people in the ward.

No measurable rain last night.  Not quite so cold too — 58º this morning.  After making pancakes, eating breakfast, and having quiet time (which got interrupted a couple times), I tried to do some packing.  Didn’t really get anything done though before we called Christy and Connie, actually nothing all morning along that line.

Erisapet came while I was cooking breakfast and got matches and soap.  She was going off to the kunai (tall grass) to start digging peanut gardens.  Before I even got to start eating breakfast, Rachel and Bonita came to carry water.  Not long after breakfast, Wan came and got matches, soap and salt.  He headed off kunai direction too.  Shortly thereafter, David came.  After Kelly left, it was time to call Christy and Connie.  They were at Bethany and Jonathan’s wedding.

When we got done talking, I had a snack and then sorted, washed, and prepared greens to cook for dinner.  Then washed and cut up potatoes to make soup for dinner.  After nap this afternoon, I did finally get to do some packing.

“34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.  35For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.  36For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?  37Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?  38Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”  Mark 8:34-38

Dog for Lunch, Anyone?

"Pitpit" Walls

October 11.  .3” rain last night and a big rain-wind storm this afternoon.  But most of the day was sunny and nice for working.  A hot day too — 89º at lunch time.  And a busy day today.

After breakfast and quiet time, we started getting things ready to take up to the house.  We had just barely gotten up when Eron came for a couple tools (around 6:00).  He was going up to work on the north wall.  Around 7:00 Daniel came and got one bilum full of tools.  Then at 8:00 David came and said Silvia was cooking food, and as soon as he ate, he would come get some things.  It was after 9:00, I think, when he came back and got the rolls of floor mat to carry up.  Tomas came this morning too on his way down to the garden.  He and his family worked in the garden today, and will probably come up tomorrow.  Eric came to borrow the big tape measure.  He was putting off building his own house so he could help us, but his house has started falling down.  So he needs to get busy building a new one.

While we were waiting for someone to come carry things up the hill, I started working on checking Colossians.  Finished checking chapter two and started chapter three.  Checked more of chapter 3 this afternoon.

Around 9:30, Daddy and I went up the hill.  The men had just finished the north wall and were getting ready to put it up.  I went in and started sweeping out our bedroom.  Eron called the kids in to help pick up the little chips of wood.  It was kind of hard to sweep with 6 or 8 kids sitting in the middle of the floor.  But soon we heard the roar of a plane engine, and the kids took off for the airstrip.  The plane encountered a problem when it landed — a dog on the airstrip — so Daddy went up to talk to the pilot in case he decided to close the airstrip.  I saw Amos outside so talked to him about finishing the work of digging the septic hole.  Then I went and took some pictures of the men putting up the wall.  Then I went back inside and started laying boxes on the bedroom floor for padding under the floor mat.  The men all came in and started helping.  Then Daddy came back from the airstrip, and everyone helped lay the floor mat.

By the time we did a few other little things, it was noon and time to go down for lunch.  My, the morning went fast!  All the men came down too and got things to carry back up — more boxes to put under the kitchen floor mat (Lord willing, we will lay that tomorrow), another bilum of tools, and bags with water, scones, and popo.

The pilot said that if the propeller had hit the dog, it would have destroyed the whole engine and would have cost K100,000 for a new one.  SIL had brought in a music team, on their way to Tainaraba for some meetings.  The pilot stayed and talked to the people about the dog.  He said that if it happens once or twice again, SIL will never come in again to Owena.  And they will have to put in a report at Moresby so if the other aviation groups see that, they can choose not to come in as well.  After he talked to the people a while, he loaded up the plane with CLC coffee (that’s the group who came) and took off.  We found out later that some of the boys had killed and eaten the dog.  It was Opo’s and he told them to go ahead and kill it and throw it away.  But they ate it.  This was not the first time the dog had been on the airstrip, but the first time it was in the way and had to be dodged.

After lunch, I was good and ready for a nap.  Daddy had a cat nap and went back up.  They got the bedroom window in, put the door knob on the bathroom door, made holes in the floor for the toilet drain pipes, put wider boards on the steps, and put the railing on.

After nap and working on Colossians a bit, I started working on the kidznewzletter.  Got the quiz done, and “Do You Know corner” done.  Then I flattened some more boxes to be used under the floor mat.  Then worked on enlarging the print in the Sios I Gat Glori book to make it easier for the people to read.  Then Daddy came home, and I got supper.

While I was doing dishes, I enjoyed watching the full moon come up in the clear blue sky, and become brighter as the sky grew dark.

“For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.”  Mark 3:35

October 12.  .2” rain last night.  A beautiful day today.  We didn’t get to go up and lay linoleum on the kitchen floor because Tomas didn’t come up from his garden, and the linoleum is in his house.  Later Daddy thought that Jokapet probably had a key.  But that’s okay, my body was really hurting today anyway.

It was 53º this morning.  It was too cold to have quiet time in the back room so sat in the sunshine in the kitchen this morning and had quiet time.  After that, I "shrunk" the kitchen table, packed up a few things, taped a few boxes, and piled them in the empty spot by the kitchen table.  After that, I was ready to sit down a while.  Finished checking Colossians 3 and checked Proverbs 11.  Worked on the activity for the kidznewzletter and finished that.  Then fixed spaghetti for dinner.

Enjoyed a nice long nap today.  After nap, I worked on the toksave for Sunday.  Then I made chocolate chip cookies and finished setting up the print file for Sios I Gat Glori.  Got a copy of that printed out tonight for Daddy to proofread.  Also printed David’s Bible school certificate and copies of the new ministry list.

NTM called early this afternoon and said there was a medivac in Simogu so they would be here in about an hour with our supplies.  Daddy went up the airstrip and waited, but the plane never came.  He finally called NTM, and found out that the Simogu people didn’t have the money for the medivac.  NTM forgot to call Daddy back and tell him.  So we are still praying and waiting for our cargo.

“23If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.  24And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given. 25For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.”  Mark 4:23-25

October 13.  No rain last night.  54º this morning, but warmed up fairly quickly.  The Lord gave us a sunny morning and sent us rain this afternoon.

After breakfast and quiet time this morning, I cleaned some stuff out of the drum that was in the bedroom so it wouldn’t be too heavy, and Wan took it up to the house.  Janet took up the boxes I had flattened yesterday.  Later on, we went up to lay the linoleum on the kitchen floor.  It was really hard walking up the hill today, my legs hurt so much.

Wenke and Yenito were outside beating pitpit.  Wamara was around, and he went with Daddy to get the linoleum from Tomas’s house.  I was going to start sweeping the floor, but had to move out all the board pieces first.  When they got back, Wamara helped move the boards, and I started sweeping.  Then he took over sweeping and Daddy and I started laying boxes.  After we got the boxes laid, Daddy and Wamara started rolling out the linoleum.  Jastin came along, and he helped, and Wenke came in and helped too.  It took quite a while to get all that done.  There was plenty of linoleum to cover the whole kitchen and the office too.  There is even some left over which we will probably use in the guest bedroom.

After that was done, we came back to the house.  Jastin came down and got some tools and nails so they could nail a piece of plastic over the office window to keep the rain out until they get the outside layer of wall on.  Then they can put a window in.

This afternoon, after nap, Daddy went back up.  Jonaten was there with a pitpit wall he had completed for the north office wall.  Some of the other men were there too.  They got Jonaten’s wall put up.  Then they fixed up a couple other walls.  Wenke was still there working on pitpit.

While Daddy was up there, I got the ministry update done and an e-mail to Christy and Connie ready to go, plus the newsletters ready to go.

“Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.”  Mark 5:19

October 9.  About 3/4” rain last night.  Just started raining again now (about 6:20 p.m.).

I was sad that I wasn’t able to go to lotu again.  Started checking Colossians today.  The first chapter was fairly long.  After that I worked on the quarterly newsletter.  A little before noon, I got hungry and tired.  So I had my dinner and then lay down for a nap.  Figured that Daddy would be home around 1:30.  That’s just about when he came.  I had just gotten up so warmed up his dinner.  Then while he was napping, I finished the newsletter.  Thank the Lord for His help with that.  After that, I sat in my chair and started checking more songs.  But then I fell asleep.

Daddy preached the first meeting this morning on Romans 11:1-5, “Has God Cast Away His People?”  David preached the second meeting, beginning the series on the office of pastor.

“18And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.  19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”  Matthew 28:18-20.  An encouraging reminder of Christ’s power, commission, and presence.

October 10.  Only .4” rain last night.  Cold this morning, but the Lord graciously gave us a lovely, sunny day today.  There was a nice breeze this morning to help dry the clothes too.

Yesterday evening, after the rain slowed down, we put the sermon CD in the computer and listened to a message by Pastor Chuck Phelps entitled “How to Survive the Devastating Fire.”  It was an encouraging one for the times, and also very sobering and challenging.  We’ve been through a lot of trials here, but we pretty much know nothing about suffering for Christ.  Daddy wants the message translated to use during the New Year’s Day events.  We had already planned to teach the people some things about Islam and about those who suffer for Christ in other countries, as well as those who have suffered in the past.  These people think they are suffering when somebody talks about them behind their backs; and usually they can’t take it and will either give in to the other person or will turn away from the Lord.  We hope that their eyes can be opened to see a little bit what it means to suffer for Christ.

After hanging out clothes and having prayer time, I checked chapter 10 of Proverbs and part of chapter 2 of Colossians.  By then it was time to wash and prepare taro and potatoes for dinner.  We didn’t have any fresh veggies so I threw a can of carrots in with the potatoe-taro combo and mashed everything together.  Canned carrots are a bit hard to handle by themselves.  Used a can of cream of chicken soup to make a gravy for the potato-taro combo.  While things were cooking, I got the clothes in.

This afternoon, I folded and put away clothes, cut nails, and proofread Sios I Gat Glori.  Will try to print that out tonight so Daddy can proofread it.  Probably answered the door 15 or 20 times today too.

Daddy went up to the house early this morning and worked most of the day up there.  He got three windows put in and two doors.  Some of the men got steps made for the back porch.  Eron worked half day on weaving bamboo for the north wall.  Tomas, with Sani’s help, finished laying the pipe for the water line.  Severah cooked food for the workers.

Amanda and Mandah brought bamboo.  Reson said she and her children will bring some tomorrow.  And Daddy said Antuma is cutting more.  Praise the Lord for all His mercies today!

“When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”  Mark 2:17
