Please Pray

Hello, everyone, and thank-you for stopping by.  I'm sorry I have not been able to update for a while due to computer problems.

This has been a rough week for Dad and Mom.  Dad has called 3 times.  The first time he called and asked prayer for Pastor Nuanda's wife, Tamar.  She was very ill.  The next day he called to say that she had died about 3 hours after he called.

Dad called again tonight.  Pastor Nuanda is OK, but he was sick even before Tamar fell ill.  Though Tamar was saved, many of her relatives are not.  Dad said that the village and many of Tamar's family have been in "mourning' for four days. This is mourning of the old paganistic type, with weeping and wailing and such. They have even had a witchdoctor there for part of the time.  My parents and Pastor Nuanda have not been able to sleep for those four days.

About 7:00 p.m. our time tonight (Saturday night), Dad preached a salvation message.  We probably won't hear for a few days how things went.  But please pray as it has been hard on Mom and Dad, and they are both discouraged right now, especially Mom.  Pray that through all this, God will show them a token for good and comfort them. (See Psalm 86:17)  A couple of weeks ago, when Dad and Mom called, Mom seemed excited about the opportunity to start school with a few students.  However, right now she is discouraged, and Dad and Mom are both very exhausted.  Please be in special prayer for them.  Thank you all so much.

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.  I Corinthians 6:19,20

January 4.
Another day like yesterday, as far as the weather is concerned.

Tanya and Lilian came early this morning to work around the yard.  Worked for about two hours.

I worked this morning on getting Romans 6 ready to check.  Also cut up attendance certificates that I printed last night, and got all the information on all the certificates.  After that, I made the bed, put away all the photos I had sorted over the weekend, and swept the bedroom, kitchen, and living room floors.  Sat and relaxed a few minutes until time to get dinner.

Wan and Tony came around noon, and worked on splitting bamboo.

In the afternoon, I worked at computer a while again.  Then made cookies — oatmeal for Daddy, and sugar cookies for the translators.  However, it started raining around supper time, and rained steadily for four hours or more — not hard rain, but without let-up.

January 5.  About 3/4” rain last night.  Still cool and cloudy most of the day today with some rain, and some periods of sunshine.

Got rice and greens ready for dinner before youth meeting this morning.  Then worked a bit at the computer.

Today we had divided sessions for the youth, speaking to them on the subject “Yu Bilong Husat?” (To Whom Do You Belong?)  Daddy spoke to the young men, and the young ladies came here.  He said there were 23 boys, and there were probably somewhere around 30 girls.  I didn’t count.  Devit, Daniel, and Korin were there with the boys.  They all met at the church first.  About 9:30, the girls came down here.  We covered the first part of the lesson, then sent them out for games around 10:10.  Epekio said they played the potato race, carrying the potato on a fork.  Sounds like they enjoyed the game.  At 10:45, they were back here for the second session, which lasted until about 11:45.  There were only seven reader-writer girls here today.  Mostly younger teens came.

This afternoon, I washed hair.  Worked more on Bible school lesson outlines.  Played keyboard.  Got supper, made granola, did dishes, washed up.

Wan, Gibson, Tony, Poqo, and Junias worked on weaving a wall today.  Finished one wall, and started splitting more bamboo for another wall.

January 6.  Worked a while on Bible school lesson outlines last evening.  Then relaxed a while, talked, and crocheted, read Bible, and went to bed.

Up early this morning.  Laundry day.  Cool and cloudy and foggy again, but hung the laundry outside anyway.  Had about a half hour to work on computer before lotu.  Some of the men came early and started working on the second wall.

At 9:00, Daddy went to the radio to make bookings for our flight to town.  I went to lotu, and he came later.

After that, Devit came to work at the computer.  It was about 11:00.  He worked until a little after 1:00 and finished getting Acts 13 in.  Since Devit was using the computer, Daddy and I used that hour before dinner to work on checking Romans.  The Lord enabled us to check chapters 5 and 6.

This afternoon, I worked on checking Devit’s typing of 2 Timoti 3 in the computer.  Was going to work on Acts 13 also, but ended up reorganizing the Acts file with smaller margins.  After that, I played the keyboard a while.  Then Epekio came, so I helped her know how to do the finishing work on the afghan she had done.  Now that is all done.  Took her picture with the afghan.  It was supper time, but Dady was busy with the men outside, so we talked for a little while.

The men finished the second part of the west wall today; and this afternoon they got both the inner and outer walls up, with the coffee plastic in between.  Praise the Lord for one wall finished!  They will start on the east wall tomorrow.

After Epekio left, I started supper.  Then Ari came in and wanted to talk to me about getting some things for the baby that his daughter Sani will be giving birth to in about a month.  So it was going on 6:00 before we finally sat down for supper.  After that, there were dishes to do.  Then a little sit down rest before the water was hot for washing.  Now the generator is on.  Not too much printing to do this evening.  Just the Bible school report charts for Lewis and Nuanda.  And some photo copying of some papers that Nuanda had given us.

The Importance of Walking in Truth

The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth; For the truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever. Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.   I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.  (II John 1:1-4)

January 1, 2010.
Rained most of the night.  I had a hard time getting to sleep.  Was awake until well after midnight.  Finally got up and had a snack after the welcoming in of the New Year by the villagers.

Finished the last few stitches of Gold and Purple Dawn baby afghan this morning.  Thankful to have it done.  Now it can go to Hega for her baby.

Daddy and I rechecked Romans 3 this morning and Romans 4 this afternoon.  We are thankful for the Lord’s help and would like to get it done as soon as possible; then have Nuanda go over the tokples and revise it.

After we worked on Romans this morning, I still took my prayer and Bible study time in secret, even though Daddy was home.  After that, I got the bed made, took a picture of Gold and Purple Dawn, swept spider webs off the ceiling around the house, did the dishes, made corrections in the computer for Romans 1-3, prepared pumpkin and uxai and fish patties for dinner.

After dinner, I got bread dough made and set for rising.  Mashed bananas and added tea and sugar to use for making banana bread after nap.

Besides the baking and working on Romans this afternoon, I enjoyed playing keyboard.  Then I got corrections for Romans 4 into the computer before getting supper.  After supper, I did dishes again, relaxed a few minutes, then washed up.

January 2.  It was a rainy morning, and cloudy mostly all day.  It is raining this evening.  Has been somewhat cool all day.  Shirts, blouses, trousers, and dresses got hung in the house this morning.  Then when it looked like it wasn’t going to rain, the rest of the things got hung out on the line.  The weather was damp so a number of things didn’t get dry and had to be hung in the house after we brought them in.

Devit went by when I was hanging clothes this morning so sent some banana bread up to the medical workers by his hand.  Then Devit came back and worked on the computer.  Gave him some banana bread before he left.  Silvia came by to get some yarn for a bilum she is making.  She is doing a little better, but still quite weak.

Took a break from computer today and worked on sorting pictures.  Have most of them done now.  Then maybe I can start on putting some albums together.  Finished the Heinz 57 Varieties baby afghan today.  That will go to Jones and Erisapet in Marivo.  This afternoon, I cleaned the bathroom, and straightened up Connie’s room a bit and dusted.  Played the keyboard a while.  Then just before getting supper, I started peeling potatoes to get them ready for dinner tomorrow.  After supper, I did dishes and finished peeling potatoes.  Also peeled a taro to add to them.

Daddy got the ooqdi trim back up in the bathroom, under and above the little cupboard he put up last week.  Made a little shelf out on the porch to put the lights on when they go out in the sun to get charged.

January 3.  A cool, drizzly day all day.  Had the wood stove going most of the day.  Was raining when we went out to call the girls in the morning.  But we were glad for a little time to be able to talk to them.

It was a busy day for a Sunday.  Off to lotu at 10:00.  Nuanda preached the first meeting, from Romans 12:2, not being conformed to this world.

We barely had time to get dinner and eat before we went back for the second meeting.  Daddy preached on the first six verses of  2 John.  A good message on the need to walk in the truth, and how this is manifest in the life.  Also brought out the eternal security of the believer.  We are thankful for the many Scriptures that bear this truth.

By the time second lotu was over, it was raining.  We got wet on the way home.  Had a nap, then got ready for youth leader bung.  Epekio brought the afghan she was working on, and I helped her start the border on that while we were waiting.

After they left, and Epekio left, we had supper.  Then I did dishes.  By then, it was time to turn on the generator and do some printing.  Also worked more on the final Bible school grading page for Daddy and Nuanda.  Will print those later.  Didn’t quite finish getting all the information in before it was shut down time.

Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.  II Timothy 4:8

December 29.
Last evening, there were six of each translation team who came to work.  Daniel’s team worked on translating Matyu.  Matyu’s team worked on checking the Bridge of God tract.  Daddy worked with Matyu’s group for a while, and I worked at the computer.  Then I worked with the group while he took a break and checked up on the other team.

Some rain during the night last night.  Periods of clouds and sunshine today.  And more rain this afternoon, but not a lot.  Daddy and I finished the checking of Mark this morning.  Praise God for His help and guidance with that.  This afternoon, we started rechecking Romans, and finished the first 20 verses of chapter 1.

After checking Mark, I did dishes, made the bed, and swept floors.  Then I worked at the computer — got progress report up to date; corrections for Bridge of God — Owena language version; revisions for meri bung lessons.  Daddy went to the radio and talked to someone at CRMF.  Said that we have two packages there.

Warmed up leftovers for lunch.  Had nap.  Cut up popo, which we had for snack after we worked on Romans.  Eris and Boni brought some greens, and raked grass.  They each got a kina, and each bought a shirt and some lollies (candy).

Nobody worked on the house today.  Most of them are involved in the games.

After snack, I played keyboard a while, then worked more on meri bung lessons.  Did dishes again this evening.  Washed up, and soaked foot.  Foot doesn’t seem to hurt as much today.  Seems like the boil is going down.

This evening we have the generator running so we can do printing.  All the printing has to be done from the Acer.  The Acer is not acting good though.  Hope it holds out until we get a battery.

"Hitherto hath the Lord helped us."
1Samuel 7:12

The word "hitherto" seems like a hand pointing in the direction of the past. Twenty years or seventy, and yet, "hitherto the Lord hath helped!" Through poverty, through wealth, through sickness, through health, at home, abroad, on the land, on the sea, in honour, in dishonour, in perplexity, in joy, in trial, in triumph, in prayer, in temptation, "hitherto hath the Lord helped us!" We delight to look down a long avenue of trees. It is delightful to gaze from end to end of the long vista, a sort of verdant temple, with its branching pillars and its arches of leaves; even so look down the long aisles of your years, at the green boughs of mercy overhead, and the strong pillars of lovingkindness and faithfulness which bear up your joys. Are there no birds in yonder branches singing? Surely there must be many, and they all sing of mercy received "hitherto."

But the word also points forward. For when a man gets up to a certain mark and writes "hitherto," he is not yet at the end, there is still a distance to be traversed. More trials, more joys; more temptations, more triumphs; more prayers, more answers; more toils, more strength; more fights, more victories; and then come sickness, old age, disease, death. Is it over now? No! there is more yet - awakening in Jesus' likeness, thrones, harps, songs, psalms, white raiment, the face of Jesus, the society of saints, the glory of God, the fulness of eternity, the infinity of bliss. O be of good courage, believer, and with grateful confidence raise thy "Ebenezer," for --

He who hath helped thee hitherto
Will help thee all thy journey through.

When read in heaven's light how glorious and marvellous a prospect will thy "hitherto" unfold to thy grateful eye!

"Though all the world my choice deride,
Yet Jesus shall my portion be;
For I am pleased with none beside,
The fairest of the fair is He"  —Morning and Evening

December 30.  Heavy rain last night.  Sounded like it was going to wash the world away.  But we were still here this morning.

Started laundry around 7:00 this morning.  We didn’t get a lot of sunshine or wind, however, so several items weren’t dry when we brought the clothes in after dinner.

Lotu at 9:00.  Nuanda preached from Exodus 23:2.  Not very many there this morning.  Many of the men at the games.

After lotu, I fixed up greens for dinner, and got the rice started.  It took quite a while to prepare the greens.  While dinner was cooking, I worked on Bible school lessons, outline of Acts 12.

After nap, I finished up Acts 12.  Was going to play the keyboard a while, but Nuanda was here talking to Daddy.  Sat with them for a while.  Then did up the dishes and fixed supper.

December 31.  Last day of the month, and last day of the year.  Thank the Lord for a nice morning, and for the rain this afternoon.  Quite a heavy rain.  Some water leaked into Connie’s room this time.  One never knows where it’s going to come in.

After my prayer time this morning, I studied the youth lesson.  Then I cleaned out window ledges and swept floors.  Worked on future youth lessons.  Cut up pumpkin for dinner and got dinner ready.  This afternoon, Daddy and I rechecked the second chapter of Romans.  Then I cut Daddy’s hair.  Did the dishes.  Played keyboard.  Fixed supper.

HEAVEN

A robe of white, and pure delight,
With love and beauty ev’rywhere;
A crown of gold and joys untold
Are mine when I get there.

Eternal days, unending praise,

The Savior’s smile, His words, “well done!”
There is no night for God is light,
No need of moon or sun.

The battle done, the vict’ry won,
And heaven’s bliss enough reward,
My voice I’ll raise in endless praise
To Jesus Christ my Lord.

God Gives Wisdom for Translation

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.  James 1:5

December 27.
It has been another warm day.  Had .7” rain last night, and a wee bit this afternoon.

Daddy preached a hard message this morning, based on Psalm 78, Israel’s lack of steadfastness in following the Lord.  It was a message for weeping.  At the invitation, 33 people came to the altar.

We didn’t have very long for dinner before time for the second meeting.  I was late getting there, as I got things cleaned up in the kitchen.

Nuanda preached on John 3:16-18, a good balance with the earlier message.

December 28.  Daddy and I were both really tired last night for some reason.  Neither of us could sleep at nap time.  We played a game of Boggle together.  Then started a game of dominoes.

It was very warm again last night, and warm when we got up this morning.  The weather was nice, and we went for a little walk later in the morning while it wasn’t too hot.  Didn’t go too far because of the boil (or whatever it is) on the bottom of my foot.  We were glad we went for a walk this morning, as it turned cool and rainy this afternoon.

Nuanda came by early this morning with the January/February church calendar to be photocopied.  Talked about wanting to teach the young people on marriage.  We told him what we are planning to teach, and he is hoping to sit in on that.  Then maybe he can do some further teaching while we are in town.  And maybe Tema can do some teaching of the ladies’ meeting while we are in town.

We are thankful for the Lord’s help with checking Mark today.  Spent about a half hour on one verse this morning — verse 16, trying to determine just what was a “hall” is and how it should be translated.  It was hard to get a good translation for it, but finally came up with “ples banis.”  It will need a picture illustration when taught.  Checked from 16 through 26 this morning, and the rest of the chapter this afternoon.

After working on translation a while this morning, we took out garbage, ashes, and trash.  I burned the trash while Daddy took care of the ashes and garbage.  After that, I made the bed and folded the clothes.  Then I worked on a Sunday school lesson in the computer until lunch time.  Had leftover mashed "potaros" from yesterday.  Didn’t have any fresh veggies so warmed up a can of peas and a can of beets.

Several of the men worked on the house for a while, getting more floor boards down.  Now Tony has to cut down another tree to get boards to finish the rest of the floor.  Don’t know when they are going to start on the walls.  When they left we had our nap.

After nap and translation checking, I cut up a little popo and did up the dishes.  Played the keyboard a while.  Then got material from the Acer onto the flash drive so I could transfer stuff to this Dell again.  The Acer battery is very low now.  Will still have to use the Acer for printing as we couldn’t install the printer onto this computer.

Tuino came by with her baby this evening — along with her mother, her husband (Filip), husband’s brother, and her little sister.  First time to see her since we came back.  Said she got married and went to Meqauna just before we came.   Said things are hard there in Meqauna right now with so many hevis.

For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength...  Isaiah 30:15

December 25.
What a blessing to have a nice quiet day today.  The weather has been beautiful.  No rain.  Very warm this afternoon.

Daddy put the overcoats of paint on the bathroom cupboard and the side of Connie’s closet today.  I glued and painted hearts and flowers design on the side of the cupboard.  Then we put it up this afternoon.  Need to find the curtain that I set aside for it.

We started studying and outlining Acts 11 together this morning.  Even though Lew didn’t have Bible school today, I still took time out in the prayer closet, and also studied a short lesson for ladies’ meeting tonight.

I tried out the gourmet kitchen appliance today to chop up cabbage and onions to cook for dinner.  Made fish patties for dinner too.  And made bread afterward.

Kelly and gang came and mowed the grass this afternoon.

Desmond Oscar chopped firewood this afternoon.  Daddy and I went out for a short walk.  It was so nice to get out.  I met the new nurse meri, Lucy.  She said they have been practicing songs to sing tonight.  When we got back from our walk, Devit was waiting to work at the computer.  He finished getting 2 Timoti 3 into a file and is working now on Acts 13.

December 26.  At 7:30 last evening, there were five adults here for ladies’ meeting — Epekio with her two littlest ones had come first — about 7:20; then Miriam and Judy; and then Lilian, Tanya, and another young lady (I think she’s home from school).  Didn’t know if others were going to come or not.  Decided we would go ahead and sing a few songs and see if anyone else came.  After a few songs, others started trickling in.  There were no girls under teens last night that I remember, other than the ones mentioned and a couple other babies.  Eventually there were about 40 ladies.  Taught the last section of John 4, the story of the nobleman.  There were three older ladies last night, ladies who didn’t know Pidgin, so they sat by Tema, and she interpreted for them.

It was a very warm night, and still 68º in the house when we go up this morning.  Very unusual.  That is the warmest we have seen it first thing in the morning.  I did not even put on a sweater this morning.  Daddy went to lotu since it was a nice warm morning.  I was thankful for a lovely morning to hang out laundry.  Was glad to get the bedspread washed today.  It was in dire need.  I enjoyed being able to get out in the sunshine and hang out the laundry too.

After hanging out the clothes, I cut up the rest of the pumpkin to cook for dinner, and did the dishes.  Rested a while and crocheted.  Thought it was almost 12:00 so started the pumpking cooking.  Daddy asked me why I was starting dinner so early.  It was only going on 11:00.  Oops!  So turned it off and worked a while at the computer, organizing all the lessons from the book of John into one file — these are the lessons I have been teaching in the ladies’ meetings.  Then started dinner at the right time.

Andavu cut firewood today.  His children helped him, and they filled the wood box full and overflowing.

After dinner and getting the clothes in, we had our nap.  Then I cleaned the bathroom, washed the benches in the living room, and swept and washed the living room floor.  Cut up part of a popo and sat down for snack.  Rains came this afternoon.  We figured there was rain on the way again, the weather having been so warm, and humidity gradually building up the past few days.

Tony brought more ooqdi and got more floor done this afternoon.

After snack, I played the keyboard a while.  Then worked on proofreading one of Bro. Stevens’ sermons.  Got supper and ate.  Peeled potatoes and taro for dinner tomorrow.  Did the dishes.  And now I am thankful for time to relax again.

Our 40th anniversary

2/6/2010

Mom and Dad celebrated their anniversary at the end of November/beginning of December after Pastor Ogle left from his visit with them.  But their actual anniversary date is December 23.  I hope you have fun with this post.  I did.

December 23.  Thank you, Lord, for your bountiful goodness!  I was so grateful for the verses and words of encouragement written out from Daddy today for our anniversary.  I needed them.

Slept really well last night, praise the Lord!  Seem to be feeling better today.  Still a lot of stuff in chest though, with some raspiness and wheezing.

Woke up to a very warm morning, but a fogged in world.

Serah came to work at 7:30 this morning — did laundry and dishes and a couple other little things.

I had a hard time getting my heart into much of anything today.  Did do a little work on the lotu song book.  Have 101 songs now.

Epekio came by for a little while.

Got some more yarn for the baby afghan she is working on.

Made a pumpkin pie today for our anniversary supper.   Washed hair this afternoon.  Now it is raining, and has turned quite cool so hope it doesn’t make my cold worse.

Gloomy seasons of religious indifference and social sin are not exempted from the divine purpose. When the altars of truth are defiled, and the ways of God forsaken, the Lord's servants weep with bitter sorrow, but they may not despair, for the darkest eras are governed by the Lord, and shall come to their end at His bidding. What may seem defeat to us may be victory to Him.

"Though enwrapt in gloomy night,
We perceive no ray of light;
Since the Lord Himself is here,
'Tis not meet that we should fear."  — Morning and Evening

December 24.  Last night Daddy and I finished our game of dominoes that we had started Sunday evening.  I felt sorry that I beat him at his game.  It was relaxing to do something together and get our minds off other things.

Priase God for lovely weather today after the rainy day yesterday.  It was chilly when we got up this morning, but quite warm this afternoon.  I was thankful to be able to go outside a few minutes in the sunshine and fresh air.  It was the first time I had been out all week.  Thankful that my cold is starting to go down.

We ate the rest of our pumpkin pie for breakfast this morning.  At 8:00, Daddy went off to Bible school.  He didn’t know how many would be there, but just about everyone showed up.  He had to come back and get more papers.  Today was the last day of classes.  Next Thursday, they will have their last exam.  And the following week, they will go over the exam and talk about a second year course for those who truly desire to study and work and put their hearts into doing God’s will.

After Daddy left for class, I spent a half hour in prayer, in front of the wood stove in the kitchen.  After that I sorted out photos until 9:00 when Serah came.

Daddy did not get back from Bible school until almost 11:00.  I asked him if he would be my garbage man and mop rinser-outer.  He kindly said yes.

Worked for a while on outlining Acts chapter 10 before getting dinner.  Dinner was leftovers so it wasn’t too much work.

After nap this afternoon, I cut up the rest of the popo that I had cut yesterday.  Daddy and I checked part of Mark chapter 15.  On my little walk outside, I picked a bouquet of flowers.  Then made cookies (orange coconut) and granola, and got supper.  Put water on to heat to do dishes again this evening, and we noticed Silvia going by, walking with two sticks.  Went out to see what was up.  Devit and Abaija were with her.  Her sickness has gotten a lot worse.  She said the new nurse meri checked her, and said it was not good.  Silvia looked very weak and thin, and was shaky.  But she was happy.  They joy of the Lord showed on her face and was evident in her voice.  She is at peace with the Lord and knows that whatever comes, she is ready to be with the Lord.  If the Lord takes her, it will be a hard time for Devit and the boys, however.

Came in and did dishes.  Sat down a few minutes and crocheted while bath water was heating.  Washed up and then played keyboard a while.

My beloved is mine, and I am his. Song of Solomon 2:16

Anniversaries celebrate the union of love between a man and a woman, the beginning of a family, and sweet times of fellowship.  One of the things Dad and Mom enjoy doing for relaxation is playing Boggle.  Below are a couple of pictures of that game.  In the second picture, see how many anniversary related words you can make from the Boggle board.  Have fun!

December 21.  Yesterday evening, Daddy put the generator on for a while so we could do some more printing.  A few people brought mobiles (cell phones to be charged).  Serah came by with Singinis to get some rice (which we don’t have enough of) and Maggis and fish.  After they left and the printing was done, we played a game of dominoes in the kitchen.  In between rounds, Daddy took care of the fire in the wood stove (bath water was heating), and I did crocheting.  I was thankful to have a nice warm bath.

Still lots of stuff in chest today, and ears and throat very sore.

The day was very busy, with lots of people coming and going.  Lilian and Tanya came around 7:30 and started weeding the garden.  They left around 11:00.

Daddy and I finished outlining Acts 8.  Checked through verse 31 of Mark 14 this morning, and through verse 52 this afternoon.  Praise the Lord for His help.

We probably could have done more this morning, but Elma came to the door with some potatoes.  After I paid her, I gave her one of the Bris bilong God (Bridge of God) tracts.  I thought she would take it with her, but she sat there and started reading it out loud.  So I sat down beside her, and added a few extra explanations here and there.  She read the whole thing, but there were more interruptions near the end, with several other people coming and going, so didn’t get to deal personally with her.  But I was thankful for the opportunity to go through the tract with her.  She took it with her, and hopefully she will read it again.

At 9:00, Serah came for work.

I worked on checking 2 Timoti chapter 1 in the Owena language.  By the time I finished that (seems like there were other interruptions), Serah was done working.  So I did a little Bible study with her before she left.  Then it was almost time to start dinner, so I crocheted a few minutes.  Then got dinner ready.  Made “potato” patties out of the rest of the potato-taro-pumpkin mash from yesterday.  Added the yeipina (wild bird) egg, some onion, tuna, flour, salt, and baking powder to the potato+ mash.  The patties tasted pretty good.  Had leftover greens again.

Tony was here working, so gave him the rest of the greens.  His littlest tyke, Micah, was out here with him, and he was excited to see the greens.  He seems to be a happy little boy most of the time, and quite a talker, although it is hard to know what he is saying.  Tony finished a small section of floor with ooqdi today.  He had brought a couple bundles of bamboo and a bundle of ooqdi the other day.

This afternoon, after we checked Mark, I worked on checking 2 Timoti 2 i Owena.  Thankful for the Lord’s help in finishing that.  Started to play the keyboard after that, but someone else came to the door.  Daddy was washing and shaving so I answered the door.  It was a Marivo lady who had brought potatoes several weeks ago on a Sunday, plus four young ladies who had come along with her.  She wanted to get paid for her potatoes.

After supper, I did play the keyboard a while.  Then washed up.

December 22.  Thank the Lord for a nice dry day today.  I still have a lot of stuff in my chest, very tight, with a raspy sound, so did not go out today.  Serah came at 8:00 and prepared the food before youth meeting.  There were about 58 youth today which was much more than we expected as there is a touch football tournament going on at Ahninyauntapeq.

Gibson brought several more bundles of bamboo.

Lilian and Tanya finished cleaning the flower garden after youth group this morning.

Played keyboard again this afternoon after working on translation and computer for a while.  Thankful for the comfort of many of the songs.  Ran across a new one in the Majesty Hymnal about peace, by Carlene Clark.

Sweet peace, the gift of the Spirit,
Gives rest in the eye of the storm;
Though night winds may rage all around me,
His comfort and love keep me warm.

This peace defies all man’s reason,
Its bound’ries exceed time and space;
God promises peace to His children,
Who trust His unmerited grace.

So rage, ye tempests of fury --
For ushered on wings of a dove
Comes peace, the gift of the Spirit,
A token of fathomless love.

Peace divine that the Father planned,
Peace made mine by the Spirit’s hand,
Peace that no one can understand -
Sweet peace, the gift of God’s love.

"I will strengthen thee."
Isaiah 41:10

God has a strong reserve with which to discharge this engagement; for He is able to do all things. Believer, till thou canst drain dry the ocean of omnipotence, till thou canst break into pieces the towering mountains of almighty strength, thou never needest to fear. Think not that the strength of man shall ever be able to overcome the power of God. Whilst the earth's huge pillars stand, thou hast enough reason to abide firm in thy faith. The same God who directs the earth in its orbit, who feeds the burning furnace of the sun, and trims the lamps of heaven, has promised to supply thee with daily strength. While He is able to uphold the universe, dream not that He will prove unable to fulfil His own promises. Remember what He did in the days of old, in the former generations. Remember how He spake and it was done; how He commanded, and it stood fast. Shall He that created the world grow weary? He hangeth the world upon nothing; shall He who doth this be unable to support His children? Shall He be unfaithful to His word for want of power? Who is it that restrains the tempest? Doth not He ride upon the wings of the wind, and make the clouds His chariots, and hold the ocean in the hollow of His hand? How can He fail thee? When He has put such a faithful promise as this on record, wilt thou for a moment indulge the thought that He has outpromised Himself, and gone beyond His power to fulfil? Ah, no! Thou canst doubt no longer.

O thou who art my God and my strength, I can believe that this promise shall be fulfilled, for the boundless reservoir of Thy grace can never be exhausted, and the overflowing storehouse of Thy strength can never be emptied by Thy friends or rifled by Thine enemies.

"Now let the feeble all be strong,

And make Jehovah's arm their song."  —Morning and Evening

“I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” (Hebrews 13:5)

December 19.
Woke up to a fogged in, rainy morning.  Had to hang the wash inside today.

Nuanda came by last evening just to visit.  That was nice, and we enjoyed a good, relaxing visit.

Did a lot of printing this morning.  Had to put the new ink cartridge in the HP.  Have one ream of paper left.

Didn’t feel like doing much of anything today.  This cough in my chest seems to take away my strength.  Didn’t have much appetite today either.

Daddy put undercoat on the bathroom cupboard and the side of Connie’s closet today.

Devit finished putting 2 Timoti 2 in computer and started on chapter 3.  Tony brought a load of bamboo yesterday and today and a load of ooqdi this evening.  He also laid a few boards on the floor of the addition.

Daddy had to turn the water off again today as the leak in the laundry room got quite bad and was squirting out water.  He had to cut off the elbow and put on a new one.  So there won’t be any baths tonight.  Water has to be off until around noon tomorrow.

December 20.  No rain last night, and a nice dry day to day.

My chest and throat and ears have been hurting quite a bit today.  There is a wheezing in my chest when I cough.   I was not able to go out and talk to Christy and Connie this morning, but was thankful to hear that Christy is able to get unemployment as long as she applies for at least two jobs a week.

I did not go out to lotu either.  Daddy preached the second lotu, finishing the summing up of I John.

Daddy and I prayed a bit together this afternoon before supper.

Worked a little bit on crocheting today.  Got the rest of Aposel (Acts in Pidgin) ready for printing when needed.  Played keyboard some this morning, and again this evening.   I wanted to sing, buy couldn’t with this sore throat and chest cold.  Was thankful for the encouragement from the words to “Day by Day.”

Day by day and with each passing moment,
Strength I find to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment,
I’ve no cause for worry or for fear.
He whose heart is kind beyond all measure
Gives unto each day what He deems best --
Lovingly, its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.

Ev’ry day the Lord Himself is near me
With a special mercy for each hour;
All my cares He fain would bear, and cheer me,
He whose name is Counselor and Pow’r.
The protection of His child and treasure
Is a charge that on Himself He laid;
“As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure,”
Tis the pledge to me He made.

Help me then in ev’ry tribulation
So to trust Thy promises, O Lord,
That I lose not faith’s sweet consolation
Offered me within Thy holy Word.
Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting,
E’er to take, as from a father’s hand,
One by one, the days, the moments fleeting,
Till I reach the promised land.

PNG baby afghan
December 17.  A little rain last night, but no rain today.  The men finished the roof, and got more done on the floor.  Now they need more ooqdi, and bamboo for the walls and floor.

Finally finished PNG baby afghan and sent it with Serah for Sipora’s baby.

Enjoyed Bible study with Serah this morning before she left.

Devit got 2 Timoti 1 into the file this afternoon.  He said that Silvia is pretty sick again — abdomen swollen, weak, dizziness, headaches.  Sounds like perhaps malaria.  He said she does get malaria when her uterine problem flares up.  They told her it (the female problem) is a type of cancer and she should not have more children.  She has had it quite a few years now.

I worked mostly on getting the rest of Acts 6 and all of Acts 7 outline into the file today.  Got bread made before lunch, and put it in the oven as soon as I got up from nap.  Was glad I got it made, as the town bread had a lot more mold today.  Daddy ate two pieces that were okay, and we threw the rest out.

          "I remember thee." Jeremiah 2:2

Let us note that Christ delights to think upon His Church, and to look upon her beauty. As the bird returneth often to its nest, and as the wayfarer hastens to his home, so doth the mind continually pursue the object of its choice. We cannot look too often upon that face which we love; we desire always to have our precious things in our sight. It is even so with our Lord Jesus. From all eternity "His delights were with the sons of men"; His thoughts rolled onward to the time when His elect should be born into the world; He viewed them in the mirror of His foreknowledge. "In Thy book," He says, "all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them" (Ps. 139:16). When the world was set upon its pillars, He was there, and He set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel. Many a time before His incarnation, He descended to this lower earth in the similitude of a man; on the plains of Mamre (Gen. 18), by the brook of Jabbok (Gen. 32:24-30), beneath the walls of Jericho (Josh. 5:13), and in the fiery furnace of Babylon (Dan. 3:19, 25), the Son of Man visited His people. Because His soul delighted in them, He could not rest away from them, for His heart longed after them. Never were they absent from His heart, for He had written their names upon His hands, and graven them upon His side. As the breastplate containing the names of the tribes of Israel was the most brilliant ornament worn by the high priest, so the names of Christ's elect were His most precious jewels, and glittered on His heart. We may often forget to meditate upon the perfections of our Lord, but He never ceases to remember us. Let us chide ourselves for past forgetfulness, and pray for grace ever to bear Him in fondest remembrance. Lord, paint upon the eyeballs of my soul the image of Thy Son.

"I am the door: by Me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture." John 10:9

Jesus, the great I AM, is the entrance into the true church, and the way of access to God Himself. He gives to the man who comes to God by Him four choice privileges.

1. He shall be saved. The fugitive manslayer passed the gate of the city of refuge, and was safe. Noah entered the door of the ark, and was secure. None can be lost who take Jesus as the door of faith to their souls. Entrance through Jesus into peace is the guarantee of entrance by the same door into heaven. Jesus is the only door, an open door, a wide door, a safe door; and blessed is he who rests all his hope of admission to glory upon the crucified Redeemer.

2. He shall go in. He shall be privileged to go in among the divine family, sharing the children's bread, and participating in all their honours and enjoyments. He shall go in to the chambers of communion, to the banquets of love, to the treasures of the covenant, to the storehouses of the promises. He shall go in unto the King of kings in the power of the Holy Spirit, and the secret of the Lord shall be with him.

3. He shall go out. This blessing is much forgotten. We go out into the world to labour and suffer, but what a mercy to go in the name and power of Jesus! We are called to bear witness to the truth, to cheer the disconsolate, to warn the careless, to win souls, and to glorify God; and as the angel said to Gideon, "Go in this thy might," even thus the Lord would have us proceed as His messengers in His name and strength.

4. He shall find pasture. He who knows Jesus shall never want. Going in and out shall be alike helpful to him: in fellowship with God he shall grow, and in watering others he shall be watered. Having made Jesus his all, he shall find all in Jesus. His soul shall be as a watered garden, and as a well of water whose waters fail not. —Morning and Evening

December 18.  Matyu’s group is working on checking the tract that Tomas translated.  Eric/Daniel’s group started on checking Matyu 1.

No work on the house today.  There was a roof raising over at Ahninyauntapeq for Nuka’s house.

I thought Serah was going to have an easy day today.  But she ended up working until after 12:00.

Devit came at supper time and worked more on getting II Timothy into the file.  Tony came with a bundle of bamboo.

I started feeling a cough in my chest this morning so have been trying to keep that from progressing too far.  Daddy is still battling his — has another day of penicillin to go.  We tried to go see Jevin this afternoon, but he was not home.  After supper, he came by to see us for a few minutes.  He is doing better, but still not completely well.  Has a cold too.
