August 25. It is 10:00 p.m. We just finished baths. It has been a looooooong day. Woke up a little early this morning — about 5:45. It was cold when we went to bed last night, but I ended up throwing the extra blanket off before morning. It was already 60º outside when I got up. Daddy was already up and had gotten the fire going and was getting his breakfast. I got the clothes sorted out for doing laundry after lotu, and then had my breakfast.
People came early for lotu. Mike was scheduled to be in charge, but he never showed up. Daddy had Amos take over the singing and prayer time, and Daddy gave a short talk on prayer from I John 5:14,15. Then Amos took charge of prayer time. There weren’t any new requests so we finished around 8:00. It was nice to be able to start the laundry a little earlier than we usually do on a Saturday.
I knew I had a lot to do today so I asked Bonita to get the potatoes ready to cook for dinner. Also had her take the tins out to the garbage hole and sweep down the walls on the back porch, and the floor too. The walls were covered with bamboo dust and spider webs.
I had planned to work on lesson plans in between wash loads, but something else came up (can’t remember now what it was) that took up that time. It was nice to get out in the sunshine and hang clothes. It was 9:15 when I went out, and the sun felt quite hot, and the air very humid. After hanging the clothes, I spent the rest of the morning working on lesson plans after getting out some extra teaching aids. About 11:30, I started the taters cooking. When they were done, I made gravy and put the leftover veggies on to warm; then mashed the taters.
We both zonked out at nap time and slept longer than planned, but guess we needed it. After nap, I finished up lesson plans, and then started making cookies before getting supper. Put eggs on to boil for our egg salad sandwiches. About time to get supper ready, Erisapet’s mother came in to see me. I stuck one batch of cookies in the oven and then sat down to let her talk to me. I don’t get all of what she says, but we somehow managed to communicate. As she was leaving, Miriam and Judy were out on the porch waiting to come in. So supper got delayed even longer. I jumped up a few times while they were here to take cookies out of the oven and put more in. Miriam brought me a whole bunch of kaukau. We talked a while, and before they left, I gave Judy some lollies for herself and Jeri and Frina. After they left, I was able to get supper on. It must have been going on 6:30 when we started eating as we were still eating when Daddy noticed that he was late turning on the generator. He was going to turn it on at 6:30. He finished eating, and then turned it on about 6:40.
After supper, I got the kitchen cleaned up, dishes done, cookies put away. Then I still had to clean the bathroom. It was already going on 8:00 before I got to the computer. Had a bunch of printing to do which took a while. Around 9:00, I got my snack ready, and then I measured the kids lap desks and marked the spot for Daddy to drill a hole in each one so they can be hung up on a nail. That way they won’t be taking up so much space in the cupboard. With 9 students now, the space is needed for their books and things. Daddy put up a couple nails to hang them on, and I put students’ names on the lap desks and then hung them up. Then I ate my snack, and afterward we had our bath. Now it is almost 10:30, and time for bed - Zzzzzzz.
“1This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: 2That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour.” II Peter 3:1,2
