Dad and Mom called last night.  They seem to be doing well.  They are excited that the addition to their house is almost finished.  The purpose for this addition is to make a place for people to stay who come to help in the work.  It is also a place to have Sunday School for the children and to hold ladies meetings.

However, Dad and Mom did request that people pray for them to be able to find lumber to make doors and frames for the windows in this addition.  There has not been any lumber in town for the last 2 or 3 months.  Although the materials for the rest of the addition can be obtained right there in the village, the lumber for the doors and window frames must be purchased in town.

Also, they have not been able to get a flight to bring in their LP (liquid petroleum) to run their gas stove for the last 2 months.  Now the big LP tank that they have is running low.  Please pray that they will be able to get the other in soon.

Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power: That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.  II Thessalonians 1:11,12

A Quick Update:

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)

Hello to everyone and thanks for stopping by.  This past week Dad and Mom were in town, and we were able to get emails from them for about a week and a copy of Mom’s journal as well.  It was a challenging week for them as banks were closed and power was out more than it was on while they were out in the town of Goroka.  But the Lord took care of all their needs just as He promised.

As soon as possible, I will upload information and photos.  Just wanted to let you know Dad and Mom were OK and trusting in the Lord.

Right now we are in the midst of what is supposed to be a major winter storm for North Carolina.  Power outages are expected in some areas, so I’m not sure when I will get the rest of the information uploaded.  Thank you for your prayers.  God is good.

Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.  (Philippians 4:20)

Needing the Prayers of God's People

Hello and thanks for stopping by.  Just wanted to let you all know that Mom and Dad called last Saturday.  They seem to be doing well.  They just talked briefly as it was chilly and started to rain while they were talking to us.  It was Saturday night here, but they were just getting ready for church Sunday morning there.

They did have a prayer request though.  They thank the Lord that they can see His powerful hand working in one of the situations that they have been dealing with.  However, they still face much difficulty in some other areas.  They have asked that people be in prayer for these things.

Pray also for the translation of the Scripture, that God would speed that work forward and keep Satan from hindering that work.  God’s word is greater than anything man says or does.  God’s word teaches what is right and wrong.  God’s word can help the people stand for what is right, even if they must stand alone.  God’s word helps the people to see things in their culture that need to be changed because these things do not agree with what God says.

But how can God’s word do these things for them if they do not have a copy of it for themselves?  So far the Owena people only have portions of the Bible, and these portions are still in their early stages of translation.  There is still much diligent work to be done to make them completely accurate.  Pray for wisdom for Dad and Mom.   And pray that God would raise up other laborers to go and help them with this urgent work.

“For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.” (Psalm 33:4)

Going to Town

November 30.

Light rain this afternoon, and raining lightly again this evening.  Most of the day today was spent packing and preparing to go to town.  Got out the suitcase and tote to look for a dress to wear for our anniversary dinner.

Jokapet came and worked for an hour putting songs in the computer.  Then I paid her.  Her littlest brother, Sawe, was with her.  I didn’t realize her mother had gone to town with her father so Jokapet is in charge of the household.

Sawe looked at books while Jokapet typed.  Serah had a busy morning.  Then she helped me look through the picture files and find a picture of Eki.  Then I paid her for this past week and today.  Also gave her some hair conditioner, a little travel sewing kit, and a slip that I found today that is too short for me.

The guys came and worked on the house.  Finished up the third wall frame, and the window spaces, and started getting cross poles up for the roof.  The rain kind of washed them out.

Just as supper was about ready Mata came with the two youngest girls, Everin and Nedasa (or something like that — the name of a type of flower).

After supper, I did dishes and finished up as much packing as possible tonight.

December 1.

After a rainy evening, we woke up to a clear, sunny, very chilly morning.  Again I did not have a very good night’s sleep.  Throat and ears were hurting, and my head was stuffy.  Around midnight, I finally took some aspirin and allergy med.  Slept better after that although I was awakened by mosquitoes a few times.  Daddy let me sleep in until after 6:00.

Again MAF’s program was changed, and our flight was to be first thing in the morning.  So we hurried to get everything ready.  Headed up to the airstrip around 8:00.  I was still feeling somewhat groggy from the allergy med.  My legs were really hurting too so it was extra hard climbing the hill.  I had to stop and rest more than usual.  Stopped at Taro’s house to see how she was doing.  She said she was feeling a little better today.  She followed us up to the airstrip.  And when the plane came, she helped me down the hill again, like she did last time.

It was about 8:45 when the plane came — twin otter.  Brought Kelly and Ayado.  Kelly said he has finished school and passed his courses.  Seemed excited to be back in Owena.  Will go out in March for graduation.  Plane brought in a load of store goods, health center goods, and building materials for the new OIC home.

It was a little after 9:20 before we took off from Owena.  The weather was very clear all the way to Goroka.  Don’t usually see it so clear.  Quite a change from the rainy season weather we have been having.  It has been quite hot all day today.

Quite a bunch of Owenas waiting at the airstrip when the plane landed in Goroka.  We had money for some of them, sent out by their fathers.  Went to CRMF to get settled.  Staying at the house where Doris used to live on the compound.  After we got some fridge things put away, we went up town.  I hadn’t had a snack so was hungry.  Had given my snack to a little Owena boy who met us at the airstrip and gave us a popo to take to town.  It was a nice popo, and I made a three “P” fruit salad for supper tonight — popo, pears, and passion fruit.  Yes, we actually bought pears today.  I was surprised to see that they were a couple kina cheaper than the apples.  The apples have gone up in price.  Usually the pears are a couple kina more than the apples.  The first pears we’ve had since we’ve been here.  My, how good they tasted!

Went to Papindos and got drinks to go with our lunch — Dad’s Root Beer for Daddy, and Jasmine Green Tea for me.  Then went to SVS and got meat pies.  After we ate, we picked up a few groceries.  Went to Bintangor and got a few fresh veggies.  I was excited to find mustard marked down to K2 a bottle — grabbed up five of those.  Then we went to Papindos again to get cheese and milk.  I was excited to find sunflower seeds, flaxseed, walnuts, and sliced almonds at Papindos today.  There were hazel nuts too, but they were a bit too expensive.  Then I was thankful to find one pack of dried basil.  I had looked the past few times we were out, as we were running low.  But there wasn’t any.  Then our basil back in Owena ran out.  And there was just this one pack at Papindos.  Thank you, Lord, for the basil.

After that, I was really tired.  We came back to the house and put the fridge stuff away.  Daddy went out again, and I went for nap.  After nap, I did more unpacking, made the fruit salad, boiled some eggs for supper sandwiches, got the e-mails up on the computer.  Read a few of them before supper, some while eating supper, some after supper, and some I haven’t read yet.  Got too tired reading all those e-mails.  Took a break and did the dishes.  Made a cup of fenugreek tea.

This house is full of little tiny ants.  Bunches of them came crawling out of the computer when I turned it on.  A few are still crawling up and down the screen.  It is funny to watch them.  They keep trying to get around the cursor when it is moving across the page.

                             Thou crownest the year with thy goodness;
and thy paths drop fatness.  Psalm 65:11

Well, that is all our written information for now.  Will update again in a few weeks.  A Happy New Year to everyone and thank you for praying for Dad and Mom.  God bless.

It is Important to Lay Up Treasures in Heaven

November 27.

Daniel, Korin, Devit, and Nuxawai came and worked on Acts 13 yesterday evening.  It started raining shortly after they left.

Daddy and I finished outlining through Acts 2:36 this morning.  After he went to Bible school, I enjoyed quiet time with the Lord.  Did not study the meri bung lesson today as I have already spent a lot of time on that the past few weeks.  Read part of Luke chapter 12 instead.  Thought about the importance of laying up treasures in heaven.

Serah didn’t have too much work so we were able to study more of Acts chapter 1 together.

The five guys worked on the third wall of the addition today and got most of it finished before they ran out of poles.  I went out in the afternoon for a break and raked all the bits of rubbish out from among the poles within the floor frame so all that rubbish won’t be under there when they put the floor on.  Didn’t get a chance to get it picked up before another rain came.

It rained a couple times this afternoon, but seems to have cleared off this evening.

A couple of girls came right after supper to say that Hega (Pweno) had a baby boy this afternoon.  She wanted a box to put the baby in.  Gave them a baby afghan and a few clothes as well.  That is the last of the completed afghans.  Have another almost finished.  Maybe I’ll get it finished in town.

November 28.

Another little rat caught early this morning, this one in the other glue trap.  Daddy and I were disturbed by rat cries about 4:40 this morning.  I had been awake since about 3:00.  Daddy got up and helped put the little one out of its misery.  It was even harder to get back to sleep after that.

November 29.

Cool and cloudy this a.m. and most of the day.  We thought we were going to get rain, but only got sprinkles so far today.

Daddy and I finished outlining Acts 2 this morning.  Then decided we should each work on a book so we can get more done and be ready when he starts teaching the men who want to go on with more teaching.  Daddy will work on I Corinthians since he will start preaching through that as soon as he finishes the Johannine epistles.

I worked on getting the Acts 2 outline into the computer file.  Then we went out and talked to Christy and Connie a while.  What a blessing to be able to talk to them now and then!  Worked a little more at the computer before heading off to lotu.

When Devit came, Daddy had him start the singing.  Daddy’s message was a summing up of the points in I John that show the characteristics of a believer, particularly a strong believer.

Matyu came by this afternoon too.  His foot is doing a lot better.  It still hurts, and still has some healing to go.  I’m sure he was glad to get out and around for a change.  He brought 2 Timoti 3.  Has one more chapter in 2 Timoti, and then will do Taitas.

After nap, I worked more on outline of Acts 3.  Then washed up and got supper.  After supper, I played keyboard.  Started writing in the journal when Epekio came to have me check out her crocheting.  It looked good.  I gave her more yarn to add to what she has.  Ema was with her, and I gave her some books to look at.  She seemed to enjoy that.  After they left, I made granola.

It is a Blessing to Study God's Word

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.  II Timothy 2:15

November 24.

A little rain last evening, but none during the night as far as we can tell.  It rained a little bit today, but not very much.

Daddy and I finished up the study notes on Acts 1 this morning.  Serah came around 7:30 this morning to start work. Got everything done before youth meeting.  Not very many at youth meeting today.  Some have gone to town.

The plane came just after the meeting got started.  Brought Nuanda and Daniel and five other passengers back from town with a plane load of goods.

Before the teaching, Daddy explained to the youth why there are teams and competition.  Otherwise Devit took charge of the meeting.  He did a really good job.

When I came back from youth meeting, the weather was very humid, and the house was very stuffy.  I went around and opened all the windows in all the rooms.  Worked on the computer a while before getting dinner.  Fixed rice with tuna and onion/butter mushroom sauce.  Also had pumpkin.

Wan and Ari worked more on the addition this afternoon.  They are starting to get the poles up for the walls now.  Daddy and I worked on checking Mark this afternoon.  Finished the first 13 verses of chapter 13.  Thank the Lord for His help.  Then David came and finished getting 1 Timoti 5 into the file.  I cut up the two popo and made popo crisp, as both popo were starting to go bad.  Didn’t want them to spoil all together like that one did the other day.  Then I worked on Christy & Connie’s letter until I got tired at the computer.  Played keyboard a while before supper.

When I went to the cupboard to get the bread out for supper, I said, “Oh, oh.”  Neither Daddy nor I had remembered that I was supposed to make bread today.  When Daddy came back in, I was making biscuits.  I asked him if he knew the story of Mother Hubbard.  He said he didn’t so I told him, “It goes something like this:

Old Mother Hubbard went to the cupboard
To get her poor husband some bread,
When she got there, the cupboard was bare,
And so she made biscuits instead.”☺

It is now 9:00 p.m.  Epekio and Serah just left after their third crochet class.

Epekio seems to pick things up pretty quickly.  She is doing well.  Serah is doing okay, but has a funny way of holding the hook and wrapping the yarn around her finger.  Oh well, it seems to work for her.  Tonight they learned double crochet.  So they will practice that until we get back from town.  Then we’ll see if they are ready to start on something bigger.

November 25.

It was raining this morning when Serah came to work at 7:30.  It didn’t look like a very good morning.  By the time she was done washing the clothes, however, the sun was shining so she was able to hang them outside.  We were thankful for that blessing, and the rest of the day turned out to be beautiful weather.  There was clear blue sky and fluffy clouds this afternoon.  It was a bit too hot in the house, but nice outside.  Seemed a bit humid so there is probably more rain on the way.

I worked on getting Acts outline into a file while Serah was doing laundry.  Then we went to lotu.

We got back to the house a little after 10:00.  Serah finished work a little before 11:30.  Then we had a short Bible study, starting a study in the book of Acts.

Devit came around 10:30 and worked on getting 1 Timoti 6 into the file.  He worked until we were ready for nap.  I was enjoying a really nice nap, when Father Hubbard came and woke me up.  Yes, we had forgotten again about making bread.  So Mother Hubbard managed to crawl away from nap and get the bread going.  After that we worked on checking Mark and finished chapter 13.  Thank you, Lord, for your help.

Then we went outside for a little fresh air.  Tema came by and we talked with her a while.  Then Devit came so we could show him some indoor games, in case the weather is bad, and they can’t play outside next youth meeting.  Erik is gone to town so we couldn’t show him the games.  So Devit will show him later.

November 26.

Daddy went to bed around 9:00 last night.  No rain last night, and there was moonlight.  A lovely day today.

Daddy and I worked more on outlining Acts 2 this morning.  It is a blessing to study the word together.

After Daddy left for Bible school, I was able to be refreshed with prayer time and studying the ladies’ meeting lesson again for Friday night.  When Serah and Jokapet came, I had Jokapet use the other Dell computer this morning and type Pilemon’s letter so I could work on this computer.  I worked today on the Acts outline and on phase 1 outline.  After Jokapet finished typing, I had her make colored circles on the pieces of cardboard for the youth “Painim Rot” game.  Serah finished working about the same time Jokapet did, so had Bible study with both of them.  Covered verse 9-14 of Acts 1.  While we were studying, Daddy came up from downstairs with one of the glue traps and four small rats on it.  He had been hearing rats crying for a couple nights and thought there were babies in the wall in our bedroom.  But the past two nights he didn’t hear them anymore.   Yesterday when I was making the bed, I thought I smelled something dead.  But then I forgot about it and hadn’t told Daddy.  The rats were already starting to stink.  He must have heard them crying after they got stuck in the trap.

Devit came and finished getting 1 Timoti 6 in the computer.

Wan, Poqo, Ari, Junias, and Toni worked on the addition today.  Got one whole wall frame up and most of another.  Praise the Lord for the good progress that has been made.  Maybe the room will be ready to use by the first of the year.  Daddy got his trousers caught on a nail when he was out there helping today and made a long tear down one leg.  So that is the end of those trousers.

Computer Work and Computer Troubles

“Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold the land that is very far off.”  Isaiah 33:17

November 22.

More rain during the night.  Another 1.5” by morning.  Had a bit more sunshine this morning, but rain again this afternoon.

Yesterday evening, we worked together starting to outline the book of Acts.  Daddy will use the outlines for teaching any men who want further teaching after the present Bible school courses.  After that, we finished our game of dominoes.

This morning, we worked more on outlining Acts chapter 1.  Then I played keyboard and worked a bit on the computer before lotu.

Daddy finished the book of I John this morning, verses 16-21 — four things God wants us to KNOW.  Nuxawai translated for him, but had a hard time.  Devit had charge of the singing.  Praise God for nine people who responded to the invitation, including a couple of the teenage boys.  Ben preached the second meeting.  Luke had charge of the singing at the beginning of the second meeting.

This afternoon, we met with the youth pastor and leaders and wives and game leader.  Ben sounds like he is getting a bad cold, but we are glad he came.  It was a good meeting, as it helped them to understand the reason for having teams and competition. Erik said that the youth had asked why they have teams, and why that can’t just be one big group.  We were glad to get some feedback and will have to explain to the youth group as a whole also.

Gibson came by a little while ago to get kerosene.  I asked him about Taro, as I didn’t see her in church, and Serah had said earlier this week that she is sick.  He said she is still sick.  Has pains in her abdomen, is weak, and not eating well.  The doctors gave her some medicine, but that made her feel worse.  Gave him some bullion cubes for her to try.

November 23.

Not much rain last night.  By morning, the river had gone down enough for people to cross.  So there was quite an exodus of men and a few women today, on their way to town for graduation and to bring back the younger school children for the holidays.

Daddy and I started studying the last half of Acts 1 this morning, the choosing of a man to take Judas’s apostleship.  There were lots of interruptions as people came and went for one thing or another.  We did manage to get through verse 20.  We praise the Lord for His help checking the rest of Mark 12 this morning.  After that, I opened the Dell computer to make last weeks corrections of Owena Romans in it, and discovered that the last of the Microsoft Office allowances had been used up.  So I was not able to do any work.  That means Devit and Jokapet can’t use it either, until we get Microsoft Office activated.  So then I went to the Acer, put the Owena Romans file back in it, and made the corrections there.  Also took care of the corrections for the rest of Mark 12.

Later more people came.  Wan came by and tried to take care of that laundry room leak again.  But there is still something somewhere that is not meeting his eye.  Daddy sent him up to patch up the skylight on the church roof too.  Devit came to work on Timothy.  Matthew has completed translating through II Timothy 2 now.  Had to transfer the Timothy file back to this computer too.

Serah finished working a little before 11:30.

We got out the other Dell computer to see if we could use it for now.  However the tool boxes and everything are so small and have such small print, I could hardly see them.  Both Daddy and I worked at it a while to see if we could get them bigger, but we couldn’t figure out how to do it.  After that, I started lunch.  Made some dumplings to go in the rest of the soup.

Didn’t sleep very long at nap time.  Got up and started working on the newsletter.  Then Daddy turned on the generator so I could print out the notes he needs for youth bung tomorrow.  So I scanned in the piggy puzzle while the generator was on so I could finished up the kidznewzletter.  Then worked more on the other newsletter.

Cut up the little popo.  Daddy ate half, and I cooked the other half for myself.  I was going to play the keyboard after that, but got caught up writing songs.  That was okay.  Played the keyboard about 20 minutes before getting supper.
