Dallas' Birthday Party!

April 22.  Clear skies, stars, and bright moon when we went to bed last night.  All clouded over when we got up this morning.  No rain so far, although the air is very stuffy.  (It is raining now – going on 9:30 p.m.  Getting pretty chilly too.)

Lost the first hour of sleep last night trying to get the coughing under control.  Since my sinuses had cleared out, I thought maybe I could sleep without being propped up.  Am much more comfortable not propped up.  As soon as I lay down, however, I started coughing.  Okay, got up and got the extra pillows and folded lap quilts to build up a head rest.  Back to bed.  Cough, cough, cough….  Next tried some cough syrup.  Lay back down.  Cough, cough, cough….  Now what?  The only other thing I could think of was Vicks.  Lay down with bottle of Vicks.  Rubbed some on chest.  Cough, cough, cough….  Didn’t really want to put any on my nose because it makes sores on my nose.  But that was the only thing else I could think of.  Oh, well, at least maybe I can get some sleep.  Rubbed Vicks on nose.  Breathed in vapors.  Ahhh!  At last - no more coughing.  Was thankful to be able to settle down and sleep after that.  I was glad I didn’t disturb Daddy with all my coughing and getting up and down.  He had taken Benadryl before bed and was sleeping soundly.  (I was thankful too that my nose was not sore today.  May have to use the Vicks again tonight.)

The Lord gave the needed strength for school today.  Thank you, Lord.  Daddy didn’t do much at all today.  He still feels quite wiped out with his cold which is now going down into his chest.  Doesn’t know if he’ll be able to preach Wednesday through Friday or not.  We may have to postpone the anniversary meetings.

We didn’t do a whole lot of schoolwork today.  After the students had their Bible test, we practiced music for the special meetings.  They did quite well learning the new song.  Did some work in their Reading workbooks and Phonics workbooks in the next class, plus a lesson in the reader.    Did only one worksheet in math class after doing the lesson in the workbook, and did some oral review in English, before practicing music again.

Then I warmed up dinner, and after that it was nap time.  I was very glad for nap.

This afternoon, I graded the math workbooks and worksheets and recorded all the grades for today.  Made a cake for Dallas’ birthday party tomorrow.  Relaxed in the recliner a little while before getting supper ready.  After supper, I started getting other things ready for Dallas’s birthday party too.  Almost forgot about getting a gift bag ready for him, and forgot to check and see if there were enough peanuts too.  There weren’t so will have to roast a few more first thing in the morning, as well as frost the cake and make the drink.

Praise the Lord for sending us more eggs today and also more lemons.  We were getting low on lemons, but the lemon girl from Waisara brought 39 more lemons today on her way to school.

Amos got the door made for his house today so now they can get all moved in.  Their old house is falling down so we know they will be happy to move.

“And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.”  John 16:22

April 23.  Rained during the night and must have rained quite a bit as Daddy said the airstrip was pretty wet today.  He was feeling better enough to go for a short walk so we were thankful for that.  We keep praying that he will be able to handle the preaching the next three days.

Not much sun today, and it is raining again this evening.  Rather chilly too.

After my lemon drink this morning, I finished getting things ready for Dallas’s party – frosted the cake, made the drink, roasted some peanuts and filled up the rest of the nut cups.  Then I got my breakfast and had quiet time.  By then it was already time for school.  The bigger half of the students were here on time, and the other four showed up quite late.  We had already started practicing singing.  Didn’t have much to do before that - just review Bible verses.  Practiced songs for about 40 minutes.  Then took a short break before phonics class.

Instead of math class today, we just finished up the review lesson in English that we started yesterday.  Then we practiced music again for another 40 minutes or so before having Dallas’s birthday party.  Dallas turns 21 tomorrow.

While the students were enjoying their cake, cookies, and drink, I warmed up our dinner, and we ate lunch.  Took a few pictures of the kids in between times and gave Dallas his gift bag.  Then we lay down for our nap just before 1:00.  I was happy to get an earlier nap and to sleep a bit extra too.  Daddy got up before we even got to sleep because the phone rang.  David sent him a missed call so Daddy called him back.

After nap, I graded the English exercise books so they could be put away.  Cleaned off the chalkboard and put away the chalk and eraser.  Covered the books.  Scrubbed Daddy’s wash basin.  Was about to get a little snack when Phinehas and Dallas showed up for keyboard class.  We didn’t have class Friday because I wasn’t feeling well with this cold.  Postponed it until today and then will resume Friday classes next week.  This Friday will be too busy with meetings.  They did pretty well on their music today, but need a little more practice.  I just gave them one new piece plus a fun page to do, and they can work more on the pieces they had for this week.

It was going on 5:00 before we were done with class.  Time to get supper.  Warmed up the rest of the pumpkin and onions for myself.  Fixed a couple eggs for sandwiches.  Peeled and cut up a cucumber.

There were quite a few dishes since I had things from the party to wash too.  But it didn’t take too long to get done.  Then I lay down for an evening nap.  Had my lemon drink when I got up.  Now it is 7:45 and time to write a few e-mails.

“23And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.  24Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.”  John 16:23,24
