July 21. Last night the sky was clear and full of stars, and there was pretty blue sky and sunshine this morning. This evening, the Lord is giving us some rain again. We are thankful for the rain as well as the sunshine.
This afternoon, Thania spent about 2 1/2 hours grading today’s lessons.
This evening, we did laundry again because Daddy is supposed to go to town tomorrow, and it will be a week and a half before we can wash clothes again. There was only one load this evening, and I hung them all in the house.
Now Daddy is teaching Bible school. He only has two more lessons after this, and the course will be finished.
“To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.” Acts 26:18 Amen!
July 22. Praise the Lord, Daddy finally got off to town. For a while it looked like the plane wasn’t going to come. It was only supposed to go to Hagen, then pick up a medi-vac, and then come here, probably by mid-morning. Mid-morning came and went. So did noon. At 12:30, when school was out, I warmed up lunch (the rest of the popo crisp that I fixed last night) and we sat down to eat. Daddy just had a bite or two left in his bowl when we heard the plane coming. So off he went to the airstrip. The students were already gone so we had to call for others to take up his cargo.
Amos preached this morning on the first five verses of Acts 19, emphasizing that those who were baptized before they were saved by faith in Christ needed to be baptized again after truly being saved.
Had several jobs to do after nap this afternoon — grade math and English lessons; sort, wash, and cut up greens to cook for supper (praise the Lord that Tonka brought some vegetables today); put a pot of rice and soup beans on to cook for supper; cut up onions and saute them to go on the rice. Several people came to the door so that kept me busy too.
“Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I show the salvation of God.” Psalm 50:23
July 23. We had a bit or rainy weather yesterday afternoon and evening, but only a few drops fell out of the sky. Later the skies cleared; and before going to bed last evening, I looked out our bedroom window and saw thousands of stars. It was a wee bit chilly this morning, but it is too hard for me to make a fire. The morning was sunny, however, so after a while, the day warmed up. I opened the back door early so the warm air could come in. It didn’t get as warm as yesterday as a cold wind came up before mid-morning. This evening, the skies are very clear again, and the moon and planets are now visible in the western sky. The winds are really howling out there too. I can feel a cool breeze blowing in the east window here even though the window is closed.
Got up a little earlier than planned this morning, but that’s when I woke up. Had gone to bed early so had had plenty of sleep. Had already finished eating breakfast when Daddy called. I was happy to hear his voice. I’m glad that he feels better when he is in town.
The students had been so busy working on their history project that they forgot they were to have a test in Bible class today. So I gave them some time to study before giving them the test.
Esau came to school late this morning and went home in the middle of math class. He was not feeling well. I hope he feels better tomorrow.
This afternoon, after finishing the job of grading today’s lessons, I made cracker/ tortillas. Made about the same amount of dough as I usually make for my tortillas, adding lots of yummy flavorings — rice vinegar, paprika, seaweed, parsley, basil, and curry powder. Rolled them out and put them on the cookie sheets like I do crackers. Cut one tray of dough small for cracker snacks, and one tray larger for egg or tuna salad for lunches. It took a lot less time cooking them in the oven than it does doing tortillas one by one on the griddle. Also I didn’t have to be on my feet as long. There was a little extra dough that I cut off the edges after putting the dough on the trays so I made two regular tortillas with that, cooking those two on the griddle. They tasted good with tuna salad for supper.
While I was grading lessons this afternoon, a gust of wind came up, and I heard something go crash. I thought maybe some boxes of firewood had fallen down again; but when I went and looked on the back porch, everything looked fine. Just then there was a knock on the door. It was Sakias with a pumpkin. He said that the wind had knocked over the wood-cutting shelter. So that’s what it was. When I went and looked, there was the whole thing flat on the ground. I could see one of the poles that had been in the ground. It was rotten and the wind had snapped it off. So that’s the end of the wood-cutting gazebo.
After supper, I practiced keyboard to be ready for practicing songs in class tomorrow. Also did up yesterday’s and today’s dishes.
“Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.” Psalm 55:22
