Don’t know if I remember everything that happened yesterday. I do remember that, in the morning before school, I colored the song visual that we would be using in phonics class. The students would be doing a worksheet with the song “Jesus Loves the Little Children,” so I made a visual to go with it too. Then we learned the song after they had finished their worksheet. They really enjoy singing, and that makes it more fun to teach them songs. It has been hard for me to teach as I haven’t had much voice this past week. But they somehow managed to hear and get it down.
It rained during the night, and was a rainy morning. All the students were late for class. Bonita and Sosthenes came a few minutes after 8:00 so I started with just the two of them. A few minutes later, Dallas came. Nobody else came until 8:15. We had already reviewed the memory verses and were reading Exodus. We were reviewing the Bible lesson before the last person came. (They will have their Bible test on Monday.) After that, we sang. They did a really nice job on the round. Then we practiced more on “Mi Gat Nupela Song.” (I Have a New Song) They seem to be getting that one okay. We haven’t really had much time to practice. Started learning the new song, “Naispela Baibel,” (Wonderful Bible) toward the end of class.
In phonics/reading class, they reread lesson 3 in the reader, did a lesson in their reading workbook, and then read book 2 in the God Is Good series. They learned the three times table in math class today. Sunny is doing fractions and measurements, but is having a hard time with those lessons. I think I will just give her fourth grade math again next year and keep her on the same level as the other students so she can get drill to go with her lessons.
In English, they had a spelling quiz and then practiced writing sentences.
Sunny and Bonita stayed afterward and prepared veggies for our supper. We had quite a few veggies so decided that soup would taste good. Hadn’t had soup for a long time. I didn’t put the greens in the soup though. The girls sorted, washed, and cut up the greens with some onions; and I put them in the pressure cooker. Then they peeled uxai, pumpkin, and corn. They cut up the uxai and pumpkin and cut the corn off the cob. Added some onions. And all that just about filled the dutch oven. At supper time, I covered it all with water, added salt and herbs, and then put it on to cook. At the end, I added some egg dumplings since we have lots of eggs left.
The boys (except for Steve who has a bad leg from a dog bite) all went with the men to help them carry poles that had been cut for the church building.
When the girls left, Daddy and I had our nap. Worked on grading for a while after nap until Dallas and Phinehas came for keyboard class. We reviewed the flash cards. Then I had them play their two Bible songs. They did really well on their songs today. I was very pleased. So I gave them some more music to work on - some small pieces for practicing 3/4 time, and another Bible song.
After they left, I started supper cooking and finished getting the Bible school lesson ready for printing. After supper and dishes, I finished grading today’s schoolwork; and when the generator got turned on, I printed out the Bible school lessons that Daddy needed for this evening.
